@Torie988 one of the main players that talked shit about Jordan back then was Vernon Maxwell. And yes Barkley was like that. In Philly he had some unreal highlights, phoenix was where he reached his overall peak though. As far as late 80's and 90's, players like Tim hardaway, quick release 3 point sniper mamoud Abdul rauf, rod Strickland, Dominique Wilkins, Shawn kemp, ect were hella skilled and athletic. I would even throw Nick van exel in there, he was late 90's. His hesi was crazy!

@@TheIcemanthomas the difference is we(or MJ) never called MJ the goat. That shot didn’t come around until lebron(outscored by Jason terry in the finals) and his creepy fans started proclaiming he was the best ever. The media may have proclaimed Jordan the best but I never heard him or any other player besides the guy that got outscored by Terry, swept by finals mvp Tony Parker, lost to Dwight Howard, saved by Ray Allen, and a Paul trade to the lakers away from not having Miami titles lebron proclaiming he was better than Jason terry. Oh I’m sorry. I meant Michael Jordan. I liked lebron til he was so arrogant to say he’s the best ever when he got outscored by Jason terry in the finals and lost when he had a super team, got accused of quitting by his own lower in the playoffs, scored 22 a game while the spurs swept him. If he would have just kept his mouth shut people would remember the good more than the bad. There is absolutely no case for lebron being better than bird, Kareem, magic, Kobe or definitely MJ. In a clutch 3 minutes I’d rather have Reggie miller. Lebron is great but he’s put a magnifying glass on HIMSELF. I just watch the end of the Ray Allen game today. The heat were lucky to win that game. Lebron was 3-12 through 3 quarters, turned the ball over 2 times in the last minute and shot 2-6 in that minute and overtime. The spurs missed a bunch of free throws. He is strong and athletic. His skill isn’t that much better than mine. Real tLk if you take away his strength advantage. By skill I mean dribbling and footwork. I give him credit for being in great shape and strong!

If you look at it in the cold hard light of day (taking out the emotion for your own favourite individual player), it has never really been a debate that MJ is the GOAT. He is still the only player in NBA history to win the DPOTY and the Scoring Title (averaging 35ppg) in the SAME season - in NBA history only FOUR times has a player in the same season achieved the following:-
    Win the Regular Season MVP
    Win the Scoring Title
    Win the NBA Title
    Win Finals MVP
Be selected onto All NBA 1st Team
Be selected onto All Defensive 1st Team
MJ is responsible for ALL FOUR times.
He also holds the joint record for most All NBA 1st Defensive Team selections at 9 and in 7 straight years he won the Scoring Title each year in which he never averaged less than 30 ppg and in those 7 straight years he missed a grand total of just 7 games!
His stats are off the charts and quite clearly MJ is the GOAT and it should not even have been a debate.

MJ is tied for MVP and DPOY at the same season but he's by himself for MVP, DPOY and Scoring Title all in the same season.
He just has too much to say, it's easy to miss something 😂

FYI, the plumbers argument only applied til the early 70s, when NBA players needed a 2nd job. Even then, it shouldn't be used against legends like Russel and Wilt as they could only compete with the players in their era. The game is supposed to evolve. New players see how old players play and adapt accordingly. That means being able to do what the past players were doing does not make them greater players. You are great based on how you dominated the players in your era. And no one dominated his own era more than MJ. 10 scoring titles while winning championships in 6. Only 4 other players have won both the scoring title and championship in the same season and MJ did it more times than all of them combined. There were only 4 times in nba history where a player won the scoring title, regular mvp, defensive 1st team, championship and finals mvp. Those players are: MJ, MJ, MJ and who was the last one again? Right... MJ.

Minor correction. Jordan played 18 games that season. And he only played 17 games in the 94-95 season (coming back from first retirement). So, it has to be pointed out that Jordan only played less than 13.5 seasons in total, not 15 seasons. And he still accomplished more than anyone else in that time.

The Pistons won the NBA championship in 1989 and 1990. They also made the Finals in 1988. The Pistons were
up 3-2 on the lakers in the 1988 Finals and were looking to close them out in game 6. But Isiah Thomas suffered
a bad ankle sprain in game 6 which the Pistons eventually ended up losing by 1 point. The Pistons lost game 7 to the
Lakers in a game in which Isiah could not play. So yes, Michael and the Bulls were losing to the Pistons in those
3 years. But so was damn near every other team in the league. And had it not been for Isiah's sprained ankle in game 6
of the 1988 Finals, the Pistons probably would have been the first team to threepeat since Russell's Celtics, instead of the
Bulls. In fact, almost every team Jordan lost to in the playoffs reached the Finals. The only exception was the 59 win
Milwaukee Bucks, which was the first team Jordan faced in the playoffs in 1985.

...28:54 . .. Damn you nailed it. Congrats! You nailed the key reason why Jordan is the GOAT. He had the talent to take
his career in a certain direction, but he _chose_ to be coached in a winning system that yielded him the best results.
So he ended up having the best of both worlds. He got the individual awards and stats, but he also got the championships.
There as a recent interview where Phil Jackson was asked if he had the first pick in the draft and he had the choice between
MJ, Shaq and Kobe, who would he pick first. And without hesistation Phil said he'd pick MJ. "Because he was extremely
    coachable".

Also this video had a lot of cap in it. Jordan was labeled a ball gif, but that was the media. Can you really be a ball hog with a season with 8 assists?
No the problem was MJ was the really the only capable scorer on those early teams.
So many would be dines his teammates would miss wide open shots or layups.
MJ lost early on because the teams he faced were all stacked with at least 4 hall of famers. Look up them Boston and Pistons teams he went against. And look up MJ’s rosters.
The video also makes it like Pippen and grant were allstars and came in and instantly got MJ winning.
Nah. Pippen was just a 7.9ppg rookie coming off the bench. He needed to develop more in practice and he improved each year but he was never a 25ppg player. He was an elite defender and a perfect complement to MJ playing point forward.
MJ needed help for sure and a pippen was the best player he had. Pippen wasn’t an Allstar the year MJ won his first ring.
Rodman was an essential player in MJs second threepeat but he also wasn’t an Allstar during those years. He was actually on the verge of being blacklisted before the Bulls took a chance on him.

The majority of the time he would hit the game winner and have the game winning save or block. Every iconic play has its own name. The storylines behind his iconic plays that the commentators told was the stuff of legend. It was obvious from the start this announcer was trying to diminish Jordan and upgrade LeBron. I'm not saying he didn't have valid points, but he definitely had an angle to try and help LeBron try and be the GOAT., It was nice to see Scottie and Harper get their credit, Rodman was a beast. the Best Defensive team ever. The best Team ever. LeBron wouldn't have been in the top 10 in Jotdans Era, they played actual defense and didn't eject players even for throwing punches.. League is SOFT, thats why nobody watches.

My biggest thing is Jordan evolved his game to win. Once he did that he didnt loose. Won 3 in a row retired for over a year andca half. He came back w 17 games left in 95 before plsyoffs. 1 full off season back to 3 peat.
Lebron like vast majority of players is ball dominate, while not being a very good shooter! His baskets are either high energy penetrate to basket or late in game when defenses collaspe he starts kucking out for others to make jump shots!
Lebron never has developed a post game, never figured a way to get low energy buckets. Jordan as he got older mastered post game, and coukd move great with out tge ball! Didnt waste energy carrying the ball up the floor setting up the offense. He had every option to take advantage of his defenders weakness! Typically 1 or 2 dribble bucket if it wasn't a catch and shoot!
Jordans later teams were phenomenal defensively so his stats were down due to taking far fewer risk, or need too!
Lebron has lost several Finals because elite teams play tuff defense in playoffs and particularly the finals. Lebron may make the right play by the book, but someone shoukd be doing that! He should be getting late jumpers to win or score in final minutes! Kickibg the ball out to ray Allen for 3 w 2 minutes is a good play..kicking tge ball out to the 4 or 5th option for 10 yrs is not! He doesnt get himself easy layups in late games because of team defense, doesn't draw fouls and go to te line being poor at free throw line and relys on plug and play guys hitting long jumpers!
He basically ruined Chris Bosh and the other white power foward..Kevin Love who were both 25 and 12 guys before becoming stretch 4's to fit with Lebron! I couldbt even remember Loves name lol. Thats my point, Jordan didnt tell Rodman to ckear from tge basket to give him room! Learn yo hit 20 ft jumpers. Lebrons defense has went to shit forca decade now and kearned nothing w 6 finals losses, a couole being massive blowouts!

Listen up! "Selfish Beings," I'm 66 years old and I watched Jordan on television when he was playing, to us old school basketball fans, it was not about Jordan winning championships, its was about his game. Jordan gave a working man something to come home to. When he played the game each night, you didn't take your eyes off the TV. The other players who played against him, has to bring their game or look like a fool. There will never be another basketball player like Jordan. LeBron James is no where near Jordan or alot of other great players. James is a basketball player who is help by The NBA to become a good basketball player, his game don't have that energy to make you want to come home and watch him on TV. I think he destroyed the game of basketball, not just in the NBA, but High school and college basketball.
He got today generation basketball players not caring about the game.
Everytime I hear or see anything about LeBron James, it turns my liken about basketball and the game. PBUY!

I don't agree with the narrator describing "until Scottie and Horace Grang arrived"! They didn't do squat when they arrived! It took time playing with and training with MJ for them to become the players we know as today! Just look up their stats, particularly in the Playoffs!
Also, MJ forced it against triple and quadruple teams because even with those variables he was still a better odds option than his teammates. He's the only player who's clutch percentage didnt differ from his regular game odds!
Detroit was not on the decline! They were on average 1-2yrs older than the Bulls! The year preceding the Bulls took the Pistons to 7 games in the ECF where the eventual winning Pistons dominated the Lakers in the Finals!
Also, Scottie didn't "always" guard the best opposing player! The only reason why it seems that way is because teams were targeting MJ to get into foul trouble in order to diffuse his 4th quarter impact! Scottie helped elevate that strain to save MJ for the clutch of the game.

Well said! There are so many ridiculously false narratives floating around social media about Jordan, all of which have been debunked countless times but the myth that Pippen always guarded the best player on the other team is easily refuted by video evidence. The reality is that Jordan guarded the opposing team's top perimeter threat more often than any other elite offensive perimeter player in NBA history.
It was not until the last 3peat, when Jordan was 33-35 years old, that Pippen guarded some perimeter threats more often, and even then there are notable exceptions...
Here are examples exclusive to Jordan's playoff career. This list is not complete...
      Adrian Dantley - 1988
      Isiah Thomas - 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991
Charles Barkley - 1990 (brief stretches)
      Magic Johnson - 1991
James Worthy - 1991 (brief stretches)
      Clyde Drexler - 1992
      Terry Porter - 1992
      Kevin Johnson - 1993
      Tim Hardaway - 1996
      Penny Hardaway - 1996
      Gary Payton - 1996
      Rod Strickland - 1997
      Steve Smith - 1997
      Reggie Miller - 1998
      John Stockton - 1997, 1998 (brief stretches)
FACT: In every NBA Finals, Jordan guarded a top 5 or top 10 all-time PG or SG
      - Magic Johnson
      - Clyde Drexler
      - Kevin Johnson
      - Gary Payton
      - John Stockton
Even in the 2001/02 season as a Wizard, Jordan often guarded and shut down the top perimeter players at 38 years old despite dealing with multiple pre-existing injuries. Unfortunately, due to Jordan's knee injury in the 46th game of the season, he could not do this nearly as often afterwards.
      Examples from the 2001/02 season...
Paul Pierce - top 3 in PPG
Vince Carter - top 7 in PPG
Peja Stojakovic - top 16 in PPG
Shawn Marion - 19 ppg on 47% in 2001/02 season
Latrell Sprewell - 19 ppg on 40% in 2001/02 season

    I put it this way:
LeBron is a once in a generation talent.
Michael is a once in a LIFETIME talent.
As others have mentioned, the debate was never real, at least not amongst NBA fans. It was created and propagated by the sports media, and the younger generation having grown up not knowing anything other than the "LeBron is better" brainwashing narrative didn't know any better. Think about it. For the first half of his career, you'd be hard pressed to find people arguing that LeBron was better than even Kobe, let alone Michael. That's because the media had already been pushing Kobe as "the next Jordan" for a few seasons, and for once, a candidate for "next Jordan" stuck. The fact that their paths never crossed in the finals didn't help either because they couldn't be marketed as rivals either, a la Magic vs. Bird back in the '80s. Therefore, there was no need to prop LeBron up to that level at that time. It's only as Kobe's career was winding down that you saw suggestions that LeBron was better. And the REAL push came after Kobe retired. Suddenly, seemingly over night, no one even mentioned Kobe in the GOAT debate anymore (other than a brief time after his passing) and LeBron magically leapfrogged EVERYONE in the GOAT debate. It's all propaganda to keep the game relevant, as it's not good for any sport to say the greatest of all time came and went 20+ years ago.
Mark my words, though. Within a few seasons of him retiring, you're going to hear a LOT of people in the media start singing a different tune about LeBron's place in history, even some (not all) of his biggest current GOAT advocates. You'll start hearing cracks in his case like "if he would have just one 2 or 3 more rings, I'd feel more confident in calling him the GOAT. But to hang around for 22 or 23 seasons and only win 4 rings? One of them being questionable? I don't know, man....that hurts his case", or "if we're going to point to his all time leader accolades like points, then shouldn't we also point out he's the all time leader in turnovers? If the most points scored ever makes him the GOAT, why doesn't the most turnovers ever make him the worst player ever?" or "when MJ retired, he was only #3 on the all time scoring list. No one said 'sorry MJ, you can't be the GOAT because you didn't score more points than Kareem for your career. And no one put Karl Malone, who was # 2 on that list, into the GOAT convo or said he was better than MJ because of it", or "can we really compare their careers with the direct PED allegations which LeBron never once denied?", and so on. You know....all the stuff that the media is currently ignoring when debating who's greater. You'll start hearing people in the media gradually bring up objections like these to LeBron's case because they don't need him to be the GOAT anymore. It will be time to move on to the NEXT next Michael.

Jordan is the greatest to ever do it and it had nothing to do with Scottie Pippen Phil Jackson Winters or the triangle. It was already known to everybody that he was the best in the league before any of them set foot in chicago. Anybody with half a brain already knew that he would win a bunch of titles when he had a team around him, it was just a question of time. Phil Jackson didn't shoot all those mid-range shots. Neither did the triangle offense or Scottie Pippen. He needed a good offensive plan, he needed a good coach, he needed good players around him, but they could have been any number of players and coaches and schemes. The one Irreplaceable piece of the whole puzzle was the 6'6 guy with hands of a 7 ft 6 Center and the feet and agility of a 6 ft 1 guard, AND a historic vertical.

People say that LeBron is a better athlete, but I respectfully disagree. Lebron is simply a larger athlete and he’s taken great care of his body throughout the years. LeBron is phenomenal but this is what separates them in terms of physicality: Jordan had a 48 inch vertical, ran a 4.3, endless stamina, and had large hands. He dunked on every center he ever faced and every team. And when he did it, he often times took two or three bodies with him because back then the paint was always clogged.
