Thx Andrew! Mine just arrived today. Can't wait to fly it. Its sweltering hot in CA right now so I will have to pause. I will be heading to Melbourne and Sidney in November.
Hi Andrew, Nice steady flight video. Going to try sloping next? Envious of your weather. We're expecting ice, sleet, and rain later today in Philadelphia.
Very interesting looking bird my friend. I just love crazy birds. And it looks like it flies great. Big salute from Slovenia for perfect Maiden, Pilot Robert
Great review, I'm a big fan of the Sonic Model "ZOHD" line up, looks like I will be adding to my collection, Wasn't sure about the nose or the vortex generators on this one but in action I really like it... The Mobius video was the selling point for me very smooth, it looks like a very well tuned stabilized wing. Keep up the great work Andrew I really enjoy the videos.
Hi Andrew, thanks for another perfect video, you address all the pertinent points so well and an accessible way, it's great to see. I've got a couple of questions: I'm considering getting this and 'upgrading' the motor and ESC to an aerodrive sk3 3542 1250kv motor and 65amp esc. I'd probably need a bigger battery to counterbalance the tailweight. Of course the real answer is 'just try it' but what's your sense of the wing loading and whether I'm over-cooking it with the take-off weight? Also how do you think it'll handle the extra speed? I like that it comes apart easily for transport but it doesn't seem to have the aerodynamics of a drak (which everyone sees fit to compare it to, apparently). Interested in your thoughts, again thanks for all the great videos, I'm always happy to find that you've posted one on a subject that I'm interested in because they're so clear and well thought out and obviously you speak from a lot of experience.
Many thanks Benjamin. I suspect it will carry the extra weight very well and there is room for CG adjustment by battery positioning. I may have a Mini Drak for comparison soon.
Hi Andrew @ 3:3mins you very quickly ducked whooh that was close lol. Looks like a very good fun plane. 3 or 4 yrs ago you did a scratch Armin wing version a lot like this plane, It flew very well too as I recall, you should dig it out and try fitting those mini fins on it's wings, just a thought.
I didn't much like the look of the little Dart, simply because of its flying speed and tiny footprint. I thought I'd just blink and the Dart would be out of sight. The XL though looks a really winner! An excellent, stall resistant model that can fly slow / fast / and FPV Absolutely looks great. (But will it slope?)
So for a couple of days I've not been getting notifications. Couldn't figure out why... I was logged into my old channel name. Doh! So swept forward wings don't stall?
Lovely! Was looking to replace my S800 with this guy and I don't think I'll be disappointed! Any idea what that wing fence is doing? Can it take a SJ7 Star or only session style cams?
Great video. Looks like it's able to make very stable HD video while cruising. What is its behavior flying going up to max throttle and what is it's max speed?
Is this a solid core wing design? I know the orbit has a hollow type wing and it kind of scares me everytime I come in to land it. Wonder how long of a flight you could get out of an 18650 pack.
Andrew Newton what was the winds like? I find my ARWing wobbles in anything other than perfect calm, looking for something that isn't so wobbly at low speed, wondering if this is it?
Will do, not much luck sloping myself, if I had of been into rc planes when I bought my property it would have been on top of hill instead of in the valley. Lol
I have been unable to launch it, even with full throttle and full up elevator it winds up on the ground. Seems quite underpowered to me. At age 71 it might be I simply don't have the necessary arm strength. I am looking for a bungee launcher.
Doesn't sound right Joe. Is your prop on the right way? Mine would rocket up into a loop if I launched full throttle. It doesn't need a strong throw to launch.
Prop is on correctly and I believe I have calibrated the speed control correctly per the instruction sheet that came with the model. I have wondered if maybe there is something wrong with the stock motor. It makes a pretty rough and grating noise at full speed but maybe this is normal?
@@joenaylor34 Joe, a few owners have reported magnets dislodging in these motors recently. Might pay to check yours, it would explain the lack of power and grinding noise.
It looks very nice, but way too expensive. I'm still loving my little Dart - flies like it's on rails and dirt cheap. I'd buy this at 50% more than the little one but not at well over twice the price!
Looks great Andrew, I like the engineering design and this one is large enough to be a serious FPV contender....Shame about the Chinese "plywood" glued together with Cuckoo spit.....lol
Nice wing :-) you had me ducking in my chair their for a second!! nice flyer, I was expecting it to be twitchy, but obviously not, great vid, thanks for sharing :-)
nice vid have you looked at the joys way glider link I sent you I recently bought one and it flyes amazing a thermal god heres the link oh and by the way its located in Melbourne and next day shipping!
I can't say I've been this excited over a new plane in a long time! lol Really looking forward to building mine. :D
LOL. Same!!
It's so smooth and stable and the foam is tough. The plywood is quite weak, might need to reinforce the battery hold-down area and ESC support.
@@AndrewNewton Hmmm. Looks like I may have to laser cut some parts for us!! :)
yeah Keith, bring it on! ;)
Just ordered mine! :D
Thx Andrew! Mine just arrived today. Can't wait to fly it. Its sweltering hot in CA right now so I will have to pause. I will be heading to Melbourne and Sidney in November.
Excellent. It will dip on launch so a lusty throw is required ua-cam.com/video/llq2hPg6YKY/v-deo.html
Very nice demo, looks like it flies beautifully. Would be fun to set it up for some long range flights. Happy Flying
Flies great, smooth and efficient with a good turn of speed. Looks like a winner.
I am really happy to see that this wing has very little wobble to it for FPV, I will be getting one for sure.
I confess, I just love that air plane. Amazing what a smooth footage it delivers. Thank you for sharing Andrew. Greetings from the U.S.
Yes it certainly works, thanks
Well done Andrew, looks like it need to get one of these. Still to maiden my Dart, hopefully next week.
Good luck, with stabiliser?
Hey Andrew, love your aerobatic morning excercieses at 3.03 !!!! Had me laugh out loud... :)
Great flyer Andrew. Reminds me of the legendary Rip Alienator in it's profile and characteristics.
Fun review Andrew! Can’t wait to get mine!!
It's very smooth and stable
Hi Andrew,
Nice steady flight video. Going to try sloping next? Envious of your weather. We're expecting ice, sleet, and rain later today in Philadelphia.
I wanted to see how you launched it - unfortunately your on board video square blocked that. Flies nicely.
Nice maiden flight! It looks very wicked in the air ;-) Happy Flying!
wow, amazing
I love the looks of this plane. Nice video, as always.
Very interesting looking bird my friend. I just love crazy birds. And it looks like it flies great. Big salute from Slovenia for perfect Maiden, Pilot Robert
2 joined together, biplane configuration? That would suit you!

Yes the onboard footage tells the story

Fantastic, I was happy with the little Dart, so I order the XL, waiting for my door bell to ring, LOL. Fantastic review.
Excellent, the little Dart was too Feisty for me.
Great video [as usual] Andrew. Seems to be a very straight tracker. Priced a little bit more than the mini drak though.
Ah yes, the Depron Spectre. A great plane but it did have the wiggles. Wing fences might have helped!
Looks good in the sky!

Absolutely looks great. (But will it slope?)
The little Dart was a bit too crazy and small for me too.
Looks like a good recomendation as a second plane.
Been looking forward to this Thanks Andrew
3:03 min you move pretty quick there Andrew another great video keep them coming
Yes my fingers weren't giving the Pull up command
That was scary!
So for a couple of days I've not been getting notifications. Couldn't figure out why... I was logged into my old channel name. Doh! So swept forward wings don't stall?
Well they do stall, but at the root first, so you still have control while it un-stalls
You are a master !!!!!!! i love yours videos !!!! best regards from Italian Riviera !!!
Grazie molto
Does this have the stabilizer that the smaller have? Something I need, and don't have the knowledge to install. Chuck
No stabiliser supplied with this one, doesn't need it to fly smoothly.
Can I use a HD cam and 2 x 4s 1800 mah batts in this and still get correct cg?
Yes I would think so, plenty of room to move batteries around.
Nice plane Andrew 👍 😁I have to convince my missus to buy me one mate this Christmas 😙
Ha, good luck mate
Lovely! Was looking to replace my S800 with this guy and I don't think I'll be disappointed! Any idea what that wing fence is doing? Can it take a SJ7 Star or only session style cams?
I'll check, so far I have only paid attention to the Mobius insert.
Here's a photo. Fits perfectly flic.kr/p/2cVNtrn
@@AndrewNewton wow, this is my next small long ranger!
Yeap, forward swept definitely helps with stability. I’ve been using forward swept graphics on all my planes for 2 years now.
As long as it keeps you stable!
@@AndrewNewton Absolutely me old beauty! Whoopadewhizzle!!
Looks smooth!
that exactly how a FWS flew at low speed. NIce!
Great video. Looks like it's able to make very stable HD video while cruising.
What is its behavior flying going up to max throttle and what is it's max speed?
Yes very stable. It's pitching up a bit when you throttle up rapidly, will try a slight thrust angle change.
Is this a solid core wing design? I know the orbit has a hollow type wing and it kind of scares me everytime I come in to land it.
Wonder how long of a flight you could get out of an 18650 pack.
Yes, solid core. The foam is very tough
@@AndrewNewton that's awesome. How much room is inside for say long range flights
Room for 3 x 4S 3000 LiPos side by side. The space is 80mm wide x 50 to 70 deep x 230 long
Nice man! The onboard video looks smooooth or what? :)
Looks like it's stabilised! But is isn't
Andrew Newton what was the winds like? I find my ARWing wobbles in anything other than perfect calm, looking for something that isn't so wobbly at low speed, wondering if this is it?
I skipped this one cause the Harrier 1100 does so well.. But this Does look very good too :)
Great build, review videos. Great channel.
Great comments!
On your controller is it a left hand throttle or right hand throttle and which one do you like better
Mode 2 - Throttle on the left
Too Smooth Andrew, and the wing ain't bad either.
Duuuude
Really nice flier. Did think it would remove your hat cam at one point. :)
Yes it was close
Cool profile looks like a star wars plane. Could this be flown by a beginner?
A good second plane maybe, wings are a bit trickier to launch.
Only thing I can think of is duck shooting this is one fast duck
Ha, leave those ducks alone
From watching the video seemed like it is not very nimble.. Is that a true assessment Mr Newton?
As nimble as you want it to be. All depends on your rates and expo. I had 60% rates and 30% expo.
Great vid. What were the recommended throws?
Thanks. Ailerons 16mm, Elevator 12mm. Seemed right for smooth cruising. Could easily handle more if you wanted to throw it around more.
maidened mine recently, it showed 50A as max power (stock motor and APC 9x4.5 on 4S), wonder if my motor went bad or the osd lies
30A max for mine. Most likely to be your current sensor scaling?
@@AndrewNewton Yes, the scaling was off
Cheers mate, do u reckon it will slope?
In a decent wind it should. Stay tuned.
Will do, not much luck sloping myself, if I had of been into rc planes when I bought my property it would have been on top of hill instead of in the valley. Lol
great,nice swoop
It has been watching the magpies!
wat is the range? does it has gps return function like the dji phantom 4?
The Dart XL doesn't come with anything like that
@@AndrewNewton so if i lose signal it will fly to freedom
wish you long life my friend .
Thanks S M, same to you
Fantastic!
That flyby was a little close! On the bank turns the profile reminds me of a mini drak.
Yes I felt the wind from that pass
My fav one atm 😎
Thank you :)
Great review, Sir Andrew. You changed the prop. Could You tell us, which prop You are using?
Probably this one www.banggood.com/1pc-KMP-9047-9X4_7-94_7-High-Efficiency-Propeller-Blade-for-RC-Airplane-p-1206897.html
Nice one..cheers...

Not normal. Mine runs smooth at all speeds. I guess you will need to try a replacement motor.
@@joenaylor34 Joe, a few owners have reported magnets dislodging in these motors recently. Might pay to check yours, it would explain the lack of power and grinding noise.
How this wing compare with s1100?
Smaller, more efficient, easier to assemble and break down. Similar smoothness in the air
looks nice :-)
What's the range?
FrSKY states >1.5km for their receivers
Ha nice fly thank you:)
Dart XL also called micro Drak ? ;-) ther regular Dart is nano drak then... ;)
Brilliant maiden Mr. Newton, as always. Thanks! :)
My pleasure, it certainly lives up to the hype. Only complaint, the plywood might be a bit too weak.
@@AndrewNewton Well noted sir, we're working on it. The eternal trade-off between weight and strength! :P Thanks for the input Andrew :)

so good.. but the price... :(
Yes it's not a cheapy
Another problem for me ....
How do I explain to my wife the need that I have to be part of my Hangar ...? 🤪
Apologies, might need my wife to have a word with her?
The trick is to make a big deal about selling something else first to make room for it 😉
