The Beginning Of The END Of Oversimplified Logos- Why Companies Are Ditching Them

- I recently found a bag of new Cheetos at Dollar General, and I realized something big. Something big when it comes to oversimplified logos. Every decade is defined by pop culture and logos are no exception. If the 2000s logos were flashy and bold and the 2010s was simple and minimal, what does this say for the logos of the 2020s decade?

Hopefully Pringles Man can take notes from these guys
Wouldn't be surprised if he did.
Hopefully he eventually gets his hairline back.
@@lovelydolltime8006 in the meantime, save your classic pringles logo cans
He didint
Yeah
Wait, so that means that these logos are going to have original looks again? Alright, that's it. This is the best year ever.
2021 is looking good!
@Thot Patrol USA -ck my puppy.
@Thot Patrol USA -ve and laugh.
Yep best year ever
@@Demeech Stop complaining about logos and spin-offs okay? Jeez go Marry Saberspark.
I went to a supermarket today and I saw the old Pringles design mixed in with the New simplified one and damn the old one looks so much better lol
Ikr me too they probaly still sell because not expired or idk
im exited to see the 2000s Pepsi logo return once again with those nice cold drips and also the mountin dew logo too beacuse i like those looks and also the first chrome logo
80s pepsi logo
I like the 2011 chrome one most
Funny enough, my friends say that they hate that companies are bringing back old logos because it doesn't make them "modern", and they also hate that retro snacks from companies are making a comeback because they'll "cannibalize the sales of the OG snack." Can somebody ask me how that even makes any sense?
How does that even make sense?
You need new friends
@@iceman7757 he/she does need new friends for sure
how does that even make sense

*As time goes on we become more advanced and more busy with our schedules, for example we don't want to be waiting in line for hours that's why they added the ability to slide your card through a reader and now all you have to do is tap it to the reader, plus our phones have it as well.*
*But what companies don't realize is people prefer oversimplified products and methods, not logos, I for one would want something eye-catching with an easy to use product rather than an easy to use product with a design that hundreds of thousands of people walk by every day*
i kinda miss shadows and reflections on desktop icons......
Totally agree, I always liked the look of them. The few apps on my computer and phone that still have shadows and/or reflections to them pop out more to me.
@@RedVelvetyJess well, thats more to do with "muscle memory", but for eyes, like when you get used to something. I think we are at the absolute peak of oversimplification, and I am starting to see a few reflections and shadows in logos and icons
I have noticed it seems to be either ultra simplified or bring back the late 80s, early 90s design. Cheetos as you mentioned has done this, but I also remember a period where Doritos’ had their early 90s, Wayne’s World Era, aesthetic back. I think I’m in favor of retro designs. But honestly if say Pepsi, went back to its early 00s design, I’d call it retro now, but also be happy lol.
2020 feels like when sticker star came out
That's an understatement.
@@Demeech yea
No 2020 isnt that bad
its when paper mario sticker star 2 rise of lyric released to the public
I FRICKIN LOVE PEEPS, there is a photo of me in my church with a paper plate full of blue ones. I like to call Easter "Peeps Season", like how people call Halloween "Spooky Month".
Insert skid and pump dancing
Insert everyone existing right now dancing
I bet HP can take advantage of the "logo recycling" trend by reviving its old logo + its "invent" tagline (from 1999) and its original branding campaign from then. I think this could be a good fit (especially if HP Inc. & HPE were to merge as one) as the pandemic has helped them innovate and invent new ways for people to work and do things they love. The outer rectangle of that logo could be used to represent the fact the the world is increasingly being connected to the internet and thus resulting in a "global hub" where we can talk to literally anyone from around the world.
Wouldn't make it the only time they recycled a logo, too. Look up Dynac/Dymec.
Man, I haven't seen the new logo before and after googling it, yep, that is indeed not a shape so at least they're being unique. Still, I don't know if a few lines is better than a venndiagram or not
Does anyone remember the Dr. Pepper logo from 1990's and 2000's with that gritty, sandy look? Yeah, those were the days.....
Okay I'm actually excited about some of these, because I've never liked the minimalistic logo trend. A common example is the Nickelodeon splat logo being replaced for lowercase text, which I've never understood since it made them stand out as a brand.
I agree, I really like the new Cheetos logo, and the throwback Pizza Hut one. And while I like the other Burger King logo on a nostalgia basis, I do like their current throwback logo. Better than just switching to plain red text for sure, since the bun shape has always helped them stand out like you mentioned.
I'll take compromise over minimalism and excessive simplification for sure. Hope more companies start doing this, I've missed logos actually being unique!
DUDE hopefully fire fox does the same, it literally is just a circle now
The circle one is the parent company’s logo. The fox is alive and well
Great video! Perfectly encapsulates the thought behind all of the companies choices when it comes to logos!
Outside US, we still use the same 2014 Pizza Hut logo and I don't think they'll change it to the classic logo anytime soon.
5:00 BRO OH MY GOD I am constantly telling people things like this! The first year or so of the 90s was more similar to the 80s than it was to the rest of the 90s. The first 3ish years of the 00's were more similar to the 90s than to the rest of the 00s. And so on. Finally someone else who thinks the way I do about this.
Sooo we're still living in the l8 2010s. I feel it too. I feel like the 2000s lasted until 2012
3:20 Hey, that guy in the commercial is playing a familiar game.
That yellow character in the game is definitely handsome, but I don’t know his name...
I always find it strange how people will roleplay as fictional characters in youtube comment sections

Cary Huang's Decapitated Head
One of these that I noticed was Miller Lite. Remember around 2012 when the bottles and cans were Blue with an ugly font?? Well around that same time they redesigned it with a more classic look, and the Miller lite crest
Peeps are great and underrated
It’s cause these companies are realizing the classic designs have character, all while working on a simplistic, multi-media level. From a tiny phone app icon, to a giant billboard.
I hope 3D logos make a return, but they make it a bit more modern.
In Romania Pringles have reverted to the old Pringles guy, with the brown mustache and all. And no, it's not old stock because they have Euro 2020 all over them. I was so freaking excited, I hope it's not a fluke or some kind of emptying the stock of old tubes.
Thanks for adding theme park content, Demeech.
Being as flashy as possible is a good look with those logos
I hope the Y2K style gets so popular that everyone wants to be vintage until they're not. Then graphic design will b admirable again
Stardust Speedway Past? Sonic CD music?
I get it!
I want those Root Beer and Party Cake flavored Peeps now!!!!!
I can't wait for the simplified logo trend to slowly die and I really hope we get much more Unique Icons/Logos.
early 2000s fashion and aesthetics are coming back, so it makes sense the logos would come back too
nostalgia truly has power. and also, all that minimalism in graphic design sucks. they say "we can do more with less", but they take so much away that there's not enough 2 do smth good. im waiting 4 websites n logos 2 get their own personality again
theres a difference beetween nostalgia and when something was just better
What you mean?
The new pizza hut and burger king logo are more oversimplified.
@Yariel Valencia Whats that?
I think Pepsi and other sodas had the best logos in the 90s/early 2000s. Really liked that refreshing look. Now it's just boring.
Don't forget dvd covers, the 2010s saw many of them with just one character on a single colour background lot
This is gonna BEE interesting!
Oh yeah dis will bee toadally amazing
How did you know there would be bees?
@@Demeech I dunno though, i just guessed it lol
Oh wait, the guy who spoiled it to me is the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee.
The fact that people think BK and Pizza Hut simplified their logos instead of them going back to the old logos make me question people.
1:29 - The reason out hot cheetos are fake in the UK, is because they have to tone down for the British market.
A lot of people here think tomato ketchup is too spicy, so the real hot cheetos would be far too hot for most wimpy mouthed people.
Being a British person who likes real spicy is difficult - Everything here is labled as 'hot' or 'extra hot!' and it's just dissapointingly bland.
I find it funny the country that went through multiple wars and was willing to engage in royal oppression for spices, now can't handle tomato ketchup.
@@chronic-joker I know. It's pretty dumb really. If you're a foodie, then the UK isn't for you :D
Yes, pepsi returned the 80's logo and the splat is back on nickelodeon logo.

lets just hope they bring back the old apple and lotto 649 logos from the 80s, the old much music, pepsi, ytv, nickelodeon logos from the early-mid 90s and even the old pringles and dr pepper logo from the mid-late 90s later down the line and the old mountain dew, doritos, windows xp and 7up logo from the early 2000s also with fido dido as their mascot again maybe even some 50s and 70s logos thrown in their for their historic value like the old nbc, pbs and disney logos (if possible), also lets also hope that pizza hut's old logo returns outside the us like in canada ,japan or asia, ive been waiting for this moment ever since i was a kid
As DaBaby once said, LESS GOO
Finally some good frickin news
Pepsi is about to revamp their logo to resemble one of their older logos 😏
2:13 Even bees like unsimplified logos.
“Creatively dead minimalistic logo” The Pizza Hut logo looked better what-
We shall now refer to the Pringle logo as "The ugly Pringle guy" lollllll
Jalapeño Cheese Whirlz are so good though
It's about time.
That's cool! Though I prefer flashy logos. That would be better. I can make good art and I made my own logo, I don't make it oversimplified, even at the time logos get oversimplified. I make it flashy.
I went to a Scottish festival and bought some Walker's flamin' hot monster munch. It was not our flamin' hot flavor in the slightest.
It's a higalian dialog the 2000s logos are the thesis, the oversimplified logos are the antithesis,
And the new logos will be the synthesis of the two
Who knew Peeps and Cheetos had so many varieties👍
What intregues me is how the "chesters" wording looks old old fashioned. Like from the turn of the last century.
Unfortunately, we’re not out of the woods quite yet. Discord just changed their logo, and it looks awful.
And Doritos too, WHAT THE HECC WERE THEY THINKING!?
I'm pretty sure the Doritos logo is a hoax. Discord, however, is real. I wish we could just go back to the logos of the 2000's.
R u gunna talk about da new pbs kids logo plz?
This is the BEST NEWS
What do you think of the chipitos for cheetos?
Chesters is its own brand, that's not cheetos.
well your beer and Pizza allegory dosnt realy work.. given that Pizza..regardles where you buy is USUALY counts as pizza wherevery ou are, it may be BAD pizza, but pizza...while a LOT of American "beer" (heineke not being affected tbf) would not count as beer in germany by a legal definition already for example
Good riddance to oversimplified logos. Bring back the 2007 Dunkin’ Donuts logo
I mean why would you think that oversimplification is good when most videogames which became popular in the last years have flashy logos
It works for a few things. Apple would be a great example because the minimalistic look fits well with their products and they have the most important part of a minimalistic logo:a recognizable silhouette. You don’t need to see the rainbow part to know it’s Apple
You’re the only person in the world I know that likes peeps.
Hope Pepsi begins to take notes from these guys
Yeah.
1:34 HERESY
Why didn't you mention the beanmouth?
Idk why but eveyrnow and then i see the old pringles lol
WARNING: THE Y2K DEBACLE HAS RESURFACED

1:20 I- i just can't scape it
If anything the 2000s ended in 2010 let’s be honest (in terms of cartoons at least)
id say the 2000s ended around 2013/14
Also wow I didn't know people hated Peeps! I've always loved them, since I was little lol
Guess they're not for everyone
The issue with Peeps is that they are pure sugar, and eating one of them will either give you a massive cocaine-like sugar rush or send you into a diabetic coma. Also, they go stale and hard very quickly.
i love peeps
the title confused me for a sec
Apple should change logo back from the colour logo
