Spells like Aim and Cheer only affect your status until the 5th use in the same battle, after that it's pointless
Just spent about an hour, near the end of the second battle and he daigro'd me twice in a row resulting in 'GAME OVER' Fuck this game!
Today was the first day I found out about Dark Yojimbo and I've passed this game 8+ times since the PS2 Release. This version is crazy!
The dark aeons were only on the international release version of the game.
Tip: Have everyone’s overdrives full. Your first plan of attack should be using your own Jimbo.
After loading up a save, kill a monster other than Yojimbo, and don’t have his overdrive full. Every time you open a save, his first attack will be Wakizashi.
Use Yuna to Grand Summon Jimbo. Give him 1024 the first time, about 60,000 (90% zanmato) the second time, and 232,000 (99% zanmato) the third. Not sure what’s good beyond that.
Grand summon him each time, unless his overdrive is full in which case use that. Use Entrust to give Yuna other characters’ overdrives.
If Zanmato fails (and odds are you won’t get 5 in a row) THEN try this.
I’ve no clue where you got your numbers from. Even with a maximum comparability of 256, giving him 1024 gil would only give you a 43% chance of getting zanmato. The number doesn’t go up based on how many times you do it. Your chances only rise based on his compatibility and how much gil you give him. Your numbers are also way off. If you give him anywhere from 131,072 to 262143 gil, at a max 256 compatibility, that’s still a 60% of Zanmato, not 99%. It’s also recommended to give him the lowest amount of gil possible. Using the last example, it doesn’t actually matter if you pay the minimum 131,072 or the max 262,143 or any number in between those 2. There’s still only a 60% rate no matter what number you pay in between those 2. If you’ve literally just pulled Yojimbo and you only plan on using him to take doing the hardest bosses like dark aeons, then a decent start is 65,536 gil. Yojimbo always starts with a base compatibility of 128 and can either go up or down from there. With only a base compatibility of 128 and 65,536 gil, that’s still a 50% chance of getting zanmato. Dangs08 actually has a basically 50 minute video explaining how the math behind Yojimbo, and he basically ends up showing a chart of how likely you are to get zanmato based on his compatibility and how gil you give him

I want to throw my two cents here: Only use Aim 5 times. 6 and higher doesn't increase the stat any higher in the fight. Also, while Wakizashi can deal decent damage and one shot a low level party, use cheer x5 then protect on everyone. Enough to reduce the damage quite a bit, and if you're going to use aeons, please at least fill their LB first. They can deal good damage with them, especially Anima and the Magus Sisters. One final note: if you're bringing Rikku in, might as well have her mix Hyper Mighty Guard then spam quick hit. Just watch out for Daigoro and Zanmato. Daigoro can petrify and break I believe on the same turn, and Zanmato while an Aeon can reduce its damage to ~50,000, always have an Aeon tank it. It dispels Auto-Life, so if you didn't do cheer x5 and protect, with all at very high health, they will die.
Casting Aim any more times than 5 is pointless. After 5 casts, it does nothing extra.

@@curtissmith4196 protect isnt even needed either lol. With bhpl you can just let him hit you with a 20k attack. He gets 3 or 4 turns iirc. It doesnt matter what combo of moves he does its impossible to lose and you can watch netflix and just spam x lol. Its a 45 second battle

It took me about 90mins just to defeat those 5 Dark Yojimbos. How I did it is like a pattern.
First Yojimbo - have a person with First Strike, then once the battle starts, switch to Yuna then call Valefor. Once Valefor is dead, use Hastega (if no auto-haste), then Aim (for some reason I only needed to cast 4 Aims to hit Yojimbo), then summon Ifrit. Once Ifrit is dead, then cast Aim again (do this til you can hit him, not miss). Then when it's Yuna's turn BEFORE BOSS, cast the next Aeon. Now use Quick Hits, but before boss, summon another Aeon. Just keep repeating.
If you need to block with the Aeon, do so, until his limit gauge fills up, then Yojimbo will do Zanmato. After that turn, do Quick Hits again.
It takes about 16 hits til he dies. (99,999 hits)
If you beat the first one, then on the second battle, you don't need the character with the First Strike. Just stick with whoever and Yuna. I did it with Tidus, Wakka, and Yuna
@@mrn4273 You can. They go to 1hp if they die and yes you can use the blue sphere to heal and save l. Yojimbo only resets when you leave the area or reload the game that includes dying so save after each fight with Yojimbo to keep your items.

I beat the game back when it came out in 2000 something. I beat the game on ps3 remaster, pc, and currently getting platinum trophy on ps4. I have penance left. I just learned what u learned today. FML

@@U2BE002 I would just choose which attacks or spells were most appropriate for that battle and switch out characters that weren't favourable.
I've been playing this game since it originally came out on the ps2 and never noticed this lol even put in like 200 hours when the ps3 remaster came out
I was super scared when he showed up after I got Yojimbo since I wasn’t in the endgame. Thankfully the warp pad still works. So I just left the cave.
Too bad even with the entire sphere grid active and Aim used several times, even Tidus misses a lot like a dumbass. Probably for the same reasons that 16 minus 20 is 10 in Blitzball.
yea i basically had to get lucky with yojimbo... my charactes just werent hitting him.. even with the sphere grids full :( i mean maybe hit him once out of 5x

You know if you use the aeons special attacks, they WILL hit Yojimbo, thus eliminating the need to waste more aeons then you need to...especially Anima. Her Pasin never misses!!

He’s super underpowered lol.... you shouldn’t need Aeon summons to survive. You can use Rikku Overdrive Hyper Mighty G... this guy knows nothing about this game lol. Hyper Mighty G or a levelled Party means you won’t die to his attacks, also you won’t miss.

Yojimbo having to be beaten 5x is bullcrap and is the only one that stopped me from killing all the Dark Aeons. I refuse to grind that much just to max stats. Runnin around on max stats kills the fun for me because the only challenging Bosses become the Dark Aeons, Penance, and Nemesis. Sadly when I summon Yojimbo I get too unlucky for Yojimbo to not cast zanmato.
Q : How to beat Dark Yojimbo.(or any end game bosses that's not Yu Yevon)
A : Use Yojimbo.
Seriously that's literally what I do. I use Yojimbo so much that it actually went full Zanmato after few retries in those Dark Yojimbo fight
You can zanmato yu yevon in its final form, I'm pretty sure. You can yunalesca aswell in here final form...pretty satisfying 😏
“You want your aeons to take the damage” that pretty much sums it up.
Aeons are not needed here at all.
Your armour set up should be
Auto protect
Defence +20%
Auto Haste
Auto Pheonix
This will be effective in farming him for dark matter.
This needs to be your armour set up for Penance as well.
You do not need Aeons at all for any dark aeons or penance battle unless he gets his arms back.
you can survive the whakizashi....you need 20% defense, auto protect, auto phoenix and auto potion (healing with x potion) and you dont even need a hp expander...he is gonna make around 7000 damage and with auto heal, you are immortal against him.

stone proof is better than auto-pheonix and auto-potion, ive found. Full-life will bring them back ina better postion, and rikkus- Ultra potion will save a couple turns healing. whereas, being pterified can really screw you, especially if the dog break the character
Have Rikku, Wakka and Tidus have all 255 stats with everything and have Healing Springs for ultranull all (Rikkus mixes) and armor for all three with Auto Phoenix, Auto protect, Auto haste and Ribbon. Be sure to use dispel and curaga after his Kozuka. Doing this and you don’t even need to summon an aeon. Dark yojimbo will be a breeze to farm dark matter. You will also have to use Healing water after his wakizashi to heal everyone back to 9,999 hp. But doing this means Dark Yojimbo can’t possibly KO anybody.
Except that this strategy is for max leveling which takes lots of hours. I'm at 110 hours in and still not max stats, there's also the matter of not needing max evasion or accuracy if you do 255 luck. 255 luck, while taking much longer, will cover both stats, and you'll only need like 35 evasion and can zero out your accuracy. Things to consider.
There's also the matter that I'd put contrary to your reply, which is: if you've farmed enough dark matter for 3 ribbons, why do you need to farm more? You only need one ribbon and the rest is ok to be stone proof to avoid the petrify/break. Js
Basically your saying have 100% completed the game already then Dark Yojimbo is easy. No shit. I want to kill him for Ribbons and Damage Break weapons without having to farm for 10's hours for Dark Matters.
That sounds like a king east just grow your compatibility with Yojimbo and Zanmato him. That’s the fastest and easiest way to farm ribbons.
What about double cast ultima rather than all the aims plus why not use your overdrive on Anima/Magus sisters to break damage limit?
I may be four years later, but I gotta say, you are incredibly unprepared and weak for this. If your luck stat isn't high enough for you to hit him every time, you're under-prepared.
It's still easier to do this though, than grind too much luck stat, tbh. Especially if you use Yojimbo for every other boss in the game.

How to survive from Wakizashi attack?
1. Use mix Ultra NulAll
2. Use Auto Protect, Defense + 20% in the armor.
Alternate strategy
1. BHPL
No need for protect
No need for cheer x5
No nees for def +20%
No need for aeons
255 defense, Ultra NulAll and Auto Protect.
@Ze TheGame with just 255 defense his wakizashi does about 20k but he doesnt get 5 hits of it before you kill him and its unlikely he will just use that every turn. The auto regen with auti haste almost recovers the health protect would have nullfiied anyway. I just let people die to armor break now if he uses kozuka. I literally just spam X while watching a movie

A)Yojimbo doesn't refuse your offer
B) After you get Yojimbo you don't go back to the area outside the fayth (you can go into the cavern of the stolen fayth but don't go to the area outside the fayth)
Phew😮💨 I just finished fighting Dark Yojimbo now before I display what I did to survive 😅 our lil’ nightmarish aeon I had my aeons overdrives ready to help me attack him after the aeons used their overdrives Dark Yojimbo kills them I also used doublecast as well because my attacks kept missing I used Ultiima the characters I used were Wakka Rikku and Yuna my characters stats were in the 200 their luck lower then 50 don’t get discouraged😊once you finish the first encounter you can go back toward the save sphere in the craven do not board the airship and don’t access the blitz ball screen you will able to save if you feel unsure you don’t have to redo any fights once you beat the first one also make sure your character has first strike I used Auron then just switched him out for yuna but I hope this helps anyone who is still playing😁
Why on earth would you not go in with overdrives full and get a full aeon overdrive off for each summon?
Especially anima who can one shot yojimbo with her damage maxed.
What I did back in the ps2 days was I first got Auron's ultimate weapon so he always goes first when the battle starts I switch in Yuna, summon Yojimbo, pay him like 100 to 1000 gil and soft reset till Yojimbo uses Zanmato :D

but you must kill him 5 times without dying..even if you save after one kill, they say you have to start over again when u load the game..
Using normal attacks with aeons is stupid. Each aeon has an attack that's a guaranteed hit why would you use normal strike when they're gonna die anyway might aswell guarantee a hit
MUST FIGHT 5 TIMES... run to the right side of the cave too.
Protect + sentinel can sometimes tank hits. Drain/lancetcan do a bit of damage and recover afterwards. This is most effective if you have a 1MP weapon and doublecast
You can also pay yojimbo a high amount to insta kill dark yojimbo. Ofcourse its expensive but its the best I've got.
Easiest way to beat him is put someone in the front row with auto life or Phoenix down and set tidus and wakka in back row with overdrive set to comrade. Attack reels and Blitz owns him pretty fast
I can't use blitz ace even with almost max stats, tidus only does like 11,000 per hit with 99,999 on the final strike. Any tips? And don't say git gud

I have Rikku equipped with First Strike and use Hyper Mighty G.
All 3 of them had maxed stats and Break HP Limit, but even with Protect, Wakizashi deals over 10,000 damage. Just keep quick hitting after that til he dead lol

You probably have to fight Shinryu til he drops 30 Wings of Discovery to customize it on a weapon. Or if you're feeling ballsy, fight Dark Yojimbo without it til he drops it for a character.
Before I fought Dark Yojimbo, I zanmato'd the Dark MAgus Sisters and they dropped 1 for Yuna with Ribbon on it to boot lol.
I know everything about items and stuff. I just Wanted to ask the stat. (255 at, 255def) i dont know how many agility,evasion,luck, accuracy need. Is it possible to make everything 255 except luck?

Yes, in the Monster Arena certain monsters will drop ability spheres but I don't rmeember the list. I know One-Eye drops MAgic Defense Spheres, and Jumbo Flan drops Magic Spheres, Pteryx drops evasions spheres, Fenrir drops agility spheres, Juggarnaut drops Strength spheres, I don't remember the name of the monster that drops Accuracy Spheres, I just know it looks like a Wasp enemy. Just keep beating these and you'll max your stats in no time. But in order to hit Dark Yojimbo, you have to have Luck of at least 120.
So i can make more than 120 luck? Thats cool btw my at,def, mdef already 255 xd
Problem is D Yojimbo has high Luck and evasion, need max accuracy and 100+ luck to hit him. But last few years, I just go all out max out Luck 255, then leave accuracy at 100+, especially since Tidus and Auron's overdrives also deals critical hits are also Luck dependent while Luck also contributes to accuracy AND evasion.
Step one: get all ultima weapons…

i usually just have rikku mix ultra null all and hyper might guard, if stats aren’t maxed. Otherwise shaman accessories with auto haste, auto protect, auto potion, defense +20%. Gg after that.

i would replace auto shell with auto-phoenix
g dylan c That won't save you from Wakizashi. Even with 255 Defense and Protect it deals about 14,000 damage.

This setup will take all his attacks except zanmato and is effective in farming him for dark matter to make your armour to prepare for penance.
I shitted my pants when I encountered him in the game, i never managed to beat him
iknow all thesse tricks to beat a dark aeon. but if you really want to speed the game up and want to finish the game faster. i suggest start building the trust system with yojimbo until he can use zanmato anytime. when i played this game back on ps2. i jus had to pay him 1 gil and he would one shot boses. good trick aswell to get good loot from monster in the arena

Max your all your stats besides luck after that farm luck spheres in the monster arena untill you have atleast 120 which is needed to always hit DY.
Its a lot easier to just get 255 attack 255 defence 255 agility some luck and 255 evasion ten make mix with rikku called Hyper Mighty Guard
Even Though he can't respawn when you leave the cave how can you beat him after your little cat & Mouse Fight to make sure he stays down cuz after I finish chasing him to the front the summoner just shakes his head and dashes off and some guides/Videos say you can leave the cave to make the count to be the 1st, then the 2nd, etc.
doubt your stats could do magus sisters together hardest encounter in game imo

Zanmato can indeed one shot everything. Pretty badass, but can cost a lot of gil
if ur aeon is gonna die anyway, why dont u charge up their overdrive first before this battle, and use overdrive whenever u summon aeon, woudnt that do more damage?
Because the Move is counted as slow while Quick attack is counted as a fast move. Both make the sama damage at this power but one will give you 4 Stacks for attack and the other one will give Yojimbo 4 rounds which means your dead.
Dude quick hit is nerfed and Aeons don't have quick hit and if they did that's not what he's talking about.
But since quick hit was vastly nerfed is it even worth that fraction of a change? At most the biggest changed I've noticed with using it was I got an extra turn from Auron against the Earth Eater.

Gage linton There really isn’t any reason to not use quick hit if you’re just focusing on regular physical attacks. Idk anything about it being nerfed, but regardless it would still be faster and give you more turns to just go ahead and use it
Wouldn't casting Protect on your party prevent his attacks from one-hit-killing your party?
A bit late, but Zanmato disspells Auto-Life.
The damage negates Protect. I think only an Aeon shield decreases its damage.

Seeing Aeons using as shield just to defeat 1 dark yojimbo makes me laugh, this method are for just lazy at maxing stats, even your armor sucks
i have deafet all dark aeon but the last aeon left is dark yujimbo if i deafet him on time does penance show up or i have deafet him 5 times please little help here .

What about the other 3-4 fights? you have to fight him multiple times. You running out of aeons.

It doesn't really matter because they are just there to take the hits. But you can use them if you want, just they do less than 99,999 and was not worth it for me

I have tried to beat dark Yojimbo 30 times and always lose after third fight is another way to do this

I must have missplayed something in this game very hard because my anima literally wiped the floor with dark yojimbo and only had 0 chance against the dark magus sisters.
Yojimbos health is very low anima can break the damage limit with his multiple hits

I use 2 million gil on Yojimbo. My yojimbo don't accept it....
All my characters have 255 stats in everything so this fight lasted about 30 seconds if not less.

Sorry but this is not the best way to beat it. As soon as i saw 9999 hp I knew it was an inferior method.
With bhpl+auto haste+ribbon the battle takes 45 seconds spamming just regular attack/quick hit. You dont need protect or cheer or any other defensive buffs nor do you need firststrike. You can simply let him have the first turn and it doesnt matter if he uses wakizashi lol.
It took you 10 mins to kill the 1/5 🤷♀️
@Ze TheGame the 9999 hp method is more of a challenge thats all. It requires knowing about the things you said you didnt know about. BHPL + Ribbon just makes it so you dont have to worry about almost anything. I keep trying to explain this to "bhpl sucks" devouts but it always falls on deaf ears because all they care about is "efficiency" in terms of how long you spend farming for that optimal setup. They call their sub optimal set optimal because its more efficient time wise to make. This is true but it requires more than just basic knowledge of the game and likely trawling guides or videos they just copy.
I went into each fight blind and had more margin for error because of bhpl+ribbon. These idiots will say non bhpl + stoneproof is all you need. My answer to that is you dont need the sphere grid or a load of other stuff to beat dark aeons. BHPL+ Ribbon makes the game the easiest it can be for a blind fight and thats really all these morons need to understand

Black Mage is awesome imo because oil+fira one shots almost all random encounters. You can time it so fira goes off a split second after oil if a slower character uses oil...which makes it almost like a one hit. Its quick anyway even if you dont do that.

I have a question. When did you get the airship back. I'm trying to get yuna's celestial weapon for that I need to get anima but I don't have the airship yet and I was just wondering when I will get the airship

This threw me off so hard. I learned about this particular fight just today, and I freaked. I died instantly.
You talk about the easy way letting your aeons take deathstroke? You do realize yojimbo can fight dark yojimbo and would be easier to grand summon pay him to kill it in one blow with first strike on your character he doesn't get ambush

That's if your ass is lucky enough to get zanmato 5 in a row.

Wouldn't Auto-Life do the same thing?
Auto-life does work well, but two things: Daigoro, the dog, can inflict stone, so bypass auto-life. Might also break on the same turn, so you may not have the chance to revive. Zanmato is the other killer. It does 99,999 (but can be reduced to around 50,000 if cheer x5 and protect) but it removes auto-life, so you need to use an aeon to survive, unless you spend the beginning of the fight buffing and BHPL to get over 50k health.

How many hours of grinding do you need to get your characters at that level? I mean, 9999 of HP seems a LOT. Mines have around 3000 only.

I was focusing on accuracy to increase my hit the dark aeons so do I need to increase luck
You need both accuracy and luck. They both affect the percentage of hitting the opponent. You can farm both, but max accuracy first simce it's much easier to do than max out luck.

I have a gambit that increases the health of 2 characters, Is it best I still do the Aeon technique?
He'll do 99,999 if you increase HP if he uses that attack that starts with a W or Zanmato
wbangca Unless you have 255 Defense and Protect on when he does Wakizashi, then it'll be survivable with more than 10k/20k health.
Seaoctopus Octavia 255Defense + Protect + UltraNullAll/5xtimes cheer and you can survive Wakizashi without breaking the Hp Limit!

Why didn't you charge the overdrives of your aeons? Summon and overdrive the shit out of Jimbo with all aeons and it should be over after that, especially when you have anima or get lucky with Yojimbo (zanmato).
Your tactic is solid too, but this saves time
Possibly because then Yojimbo would get three attacks following the overdrive and since Dark Aeons have more than enough HP to survive an overdrive...the player would be (bleep)'ed trying that way. Just stating the obvious which you didn't realize, I guess.

Thats means you are too slow. Atleast complete the whole spheregrid before fighting any dark aeons but they will still be hard to kill.
What does agility do?

In all technicality, you don't really need max luck or accuracy, if you use the overdrive. Tidus' Slice&Dice and Wakka's Attack reels can deal good damage, and you need high accuracy or luck to hit him with either. If you're planning on spamming quick hit though, preferably 255 accuracy and at least 100 luck, though obviously higher is better
Edit: Having Yuna in the party too can help a lot, and is practically necessary to get through Zanmato. However, whats interesting to note, is if you have an aeon with high enough health, maxed defenses, cheer 5 time, cast protect, and guard all before he uses Zanmato, they can actually survive the attack. But to do this, it takes a massive grind since you need it's health like over 50k or 60k just to survive even after all that setup, so it's not the preferred way, unless you're doing an NSG playthrough.
