I've done this job as well on my 2008 535xi, referencing from the TurboLabofAmerica site and their various references. I have a reluctance to beat on things, so I used an M8x1 bolt with washers and sockets to create a "press" tool and removed the flapper arm bushing from the housing with no issue. Everything else is as you described. I also bought a CHRA rebuild assembly from the same Ebay vendor link they recommended, and replaced all internal components. It was very basic and straight-forward. I now have 30K mileage on the service with no issues other that unrelated vacuum line failures. Just do it!

Just a suggestion, you should of weld the caps also, i know you installed new, but can see that new caps also have lot of free play. Great video. Thank you
The cap needs some free play in order to lay flat against the seat inside the housing. I think it would be risky to weld it as it could allow boost leaks if it isn't perfectly seated
I would suggest editing out your burps and coughs and the "annnnndddddd" "ummmmm" and all that. Just edit that out. It would be better to watch. But overall good video thank you for the hard work, this helps me not waste time.

I'm in the middle of doing this repair and noticed the flap disc is considerably thicker on the new part. Because of this it affects the height of the assembly and causes it to stick in the closed position and does not seal 100 percent. Did you notice this at all on yours? I'm not impressed so far.
I used a kit offered through ECS. Worked pretty slick and was super easy to install. The flapper made a real nice seal with the wastegate, so I'm sure the repair was done correctly. I'll put a link in the description on the kit we procured.
