HTC One Max >>>>>> It feels so solid in the hand, has amazing battery life, a much smoother OS skin & performance, the best speakers ever in a "phone", and a full HD display.
I'm buying the HTC One Max. Those front stereo speakers sealed the deal for me. Wish the camera was a bit better, but I can live with it. Thanks for the review.
I love my HTC One max, the battery is great and the Snapdragon 600 handles everything I through at it. I've played a ds emulator on it non stop, such a great phone.
My wife and I got new phones last week, she got the HTC ONE Max and I chose the Samsung Galaxy Mega. This video was perfect for us to look at, it really gave us a good idea of the differences in our phone. And now that we have watched it you can notice those differences. I love my Mega it does all I need and want for it to do without issue. She loves her HTC it handles everything that she does as well. Great Video very informative.
I purchased a Mega (6.3) and I was shocked by the great performance. I downloaded 10 games all high performance taskings and still, theres enough room to spare! High def recording, compliments the true Multi-Window tech. I just love this big baby!
Watching in 2022. I'm still shocked that HTC went out of the phone business. They were early with so many features that are standard now--fingerprint reader like on the Max, dual camera with bokeh effect like on the One M8, dual stereo speakers. HTC always made some of the best smartphones and I really miss them.
These devices are targeted at exactly the same buyer segment. Go back and take a look at our Note 3 review, and then our Note 2 review, and then our Galaxy S 4 review. If that's "bashing" in your book, you might wanna recalibrate your expectations. ^MF
This review was done at a time when cell phones were still exciting. I wish some new innovative handsets would surface. I found a galaxy mega for $60 on Craigslist. It is still pretty sweet.
I have the one max and its the best phone I've ever had! Ive never had an issue with it and I've had it for months. Its super flashy, solid, its fast, super loud, and everything about it I love. Whenever I pull it out everyone always asks wtf it is haha. Or "is that a tablet?" But then they use it and end up wanting one. The phrase "bigger is better" is definitely true with this phone. I highly recommend it!
Gaming, calls, and social feeds are what I use my phone for. So with that said I will be getting the Htc One Max. I like it's build and look better. Do you happen to know when it will go to sprint??
I just got the HTC 1 max today. And I love it. The phone I had before was the iPhone 6 , I just felt like they were all the same & I wanted something different. So I went team HTC. And I love it.
I'm currently rocking the galaxy mega and I love it. Almost bought the htc max until I saw the mega was not as expensive. Plus the fact I can remove the battery and use multi windows was just an added plus to me. And now that you can move your apps to an sd card I'm sticking with mega for the Win!!
Can you use multi-windows with Nova launcher? I'm not a fan of Touchwiz, so I would install Nova right away to alleviate that problem, but I don't want to lose the multi-window capability.
Thanks for your review. I got the Mega last weekend & so far, am loving it! I've been wanting a small tablet, but my 16 month old Motorola Photon 4G LTE phone's screen crashed, so I thought I'd go with the Mega for the phablet usage. I've not been disappointed thus far. Yes, the one thing I'd like better is the speaker, but I can still blue tooth it to my sound bar or to my small bluetooth speaker for better sound quality when playing music, vids & such. I use an ear piece for talking, so that helps too. Interestingly, I put my SD card from my Motorola phone into the Mega with my photos & vids left over from the Motorola. They do appear more crisp & brighter. I'm sure that's the Samsung technology at work with the Mega's screen though. I looked at the HTC vs the Mega, the store had just sold their last HTC, but I still liked the full screen size compared to the HTC's screen size. Although not that much different, there was a difference for me. I am glad I went with the Mega instead. Yes, a big plus is being able to remove the battery or even being able to purchase a back up battery if needed for future use. Although with heavy usage, my battery still gets me through an entire day.
I got my galaxy mega for Christmas and I'm using it right now,it's a dream to use and works perfectly. It comes with 16gb of built in memory and I also added a 64gb micro sd card. This is definitely the phone to get for the best experience. Hands down galaxy mega takes it!
Mega 6.3 is IDR.4700k in here, HTC One Max is IDR 8900k in Indonesia. So u will get 2 Megas for 1 HTC One Max. I think Price is a big selling point... Samsung wins here...
Michael you continue to provide the best reviews. I think that this category of big phones will be a small segment in the smartphone category. However I like to see the continuing evolution of how big phones can be compressed by technology.
I've ordered the galaxy mega I'm swapping up from a galaxy s4. I really like samsungs qualities, after looking at this video I think I've make the right choice. Thanks for the insight
Samsung's overlay is often derided but S Planner's interface and colour scheme for (those of us who need) a diary with reminders, it has yet to be surpassed. Much more efficient and pleasurable to use than stock vanilla, even better with a large screen, a truly pocketable tablet that can also make telephone calls.
I have the htc Max on Verizon after having two Note 3's inside of a month that both had issues. I also own two original htc one's, which I went to from the sgs3 on my T-Mobile account. I must say the sgs3 was a fantastic phone, but I ran as custom Rom on it pretty much out of the box! The htc one was even better and only retired the note 3 because of the larger screen and beast hardware. However, after all the issues experienced on two brand new new ones within 3 weeks it had to go. My one max performs just as well as my original htc one, is just as snappy and fast and even though on paper is inferior in specs, is much faster and stay that way. Unlike the Samsung that is fast at first, but after a few days slows down significantly and starts eating more and more battery. They don't make very efficient use if the hardware at all and htc optimizes the lesser hardware so much more efficiently that the phone runs better and is smoother, more responsive and quicker all around. Both the one and one max are better devices and the only people that would disagree are ones only looking at the tech specs or haters against htc. Having owned all of these devices I can speak personally and in everyday use the max or one are the best devices to have and are actually the fastest since htc optimizes the hardware as lot better. And my fingerprint scanner works flawless on my max as well. People that are having issues with it are either hitting the camera by accident or trying to do it one handed. But if you do it correctly while using two hands it works as it's supposed to and I even have a case on mine (incipio from Verizon) that doesn't affect it at all. Plus you have the option to turn off blink feed (that I'm not personally a fan of) on the max and the sound alone of the max/one in multimedia is unbelievable and makes either well worth the purchase over the Samsung.
Mine hasn't missed a beat since day one, and of course now I have a custom Rom on it, and there's also the kit Kat update that was just released (which I've been running for a while already) but yeah I love the max. My last note wouldn't even display my signal type for what type of data coverage I was in. And for a phone with slightly superior hardware (the extra gig of ram is only used for multi tasking aspects of the heavy touch wiz by the way) the max is a much faster phone in every way of normal daily use and especially software wise, comparing sense to touch wiz
I used to have an htc one max. Its a really good phone. But I recently switched from at&t to verizon in order to get my own line and move out of the family plan I was on. AT&T is mor3 affordable. The goal this whole time was to get my own line with a bill below $100.......anyway point is I now have a samsung galaxy mega and I love it!!!!!
Yo. I'm tired of people not giving this phone a fair shake. First of all it has the best phablet screen and audio quality on the market. It may not have a snapdragon 800, but with sense it still runs extremely fast, and probably faster once it gets kit Kat update. The SD card add is a plus. The build quality is still better than any other phablet, and the fingerprint scanner works perfectly if you set it up properly. I've had a lot of phones and I would not give this phone up for a note 3. No disrespect, but I'm tired of people piggy backing off of other tech reviews. So what it Doesn't have an 800, or image stabilization. This is still the best choice for consumption of media with full Hd 1080p display and boom sound.
Joshua o'malley I always go back to Michael's reviews on old Pocketnow. The main reason I was and still am subscribed. Really takes you back in time. 😌

Only considering the One Max because the regular HTC One has been out for so long…has anyone heard of any leaks of a new HTC regular sized phone coming out??
HTC One Max was my choice at the Verizon store. I had the HTC Inspire from ATT but it was starting to misbehave with fast battery drain and low signal. I was torn between the HTC One Max and the Samsung galaxy Note III. I chose the HTC before seeing this. I am happy with my phablet but might have got the Note III had I viewed this beforehand.
Great comparison !! If I'm not mistaken your from the boston area right Michael ? We'll if you are then congrats on the World Series title for the Red Sox 👍
i am still having troble deciding which one to end up with...i really need help with that, its been narrowed down to lg g pro, htc one and one max and the mega...
The HTC Max is the best phone I've ever had. I've dropped it so many times down the stairs and it never cracked I've gotten water in the speakers and they're still louder than most phone speakers and I love the size. The only thing I don't like is that small things break on it like my power and volume button and the speaker protectors which I had to pay 300 dollars to fix ( I think that that was way over priced but I need it fixed lol) if you're a clumsy person who loves great speakers this phone is great XD
mega has the pretty much the same specs as the galaxy s4 mini I don't know why anyone would get the samsung mega unless size and brand was an important selling point for them.
I do hate to talk on the phone. It is rare that I do. I am looking for a device to replace my nexus 7 (1st gen) and my samsung galaxy duo (too small). Mega? HTC 1 Max? Nokia lumia 1520?
I have the galaxy mega 6.3 and its awesome. Mines unlocked and rooted. I'm thinking about switching phones but not Bc the phone is bad but I like to try other things. Idk if I should go with HTC one max or note 3 :/ I like HTC max clean look and hardware. But I love the multitasking in Samsung devices. Its so hard to choose :(
i was thinking about getting the Galaxy S4 active, mainly because of the waterproof, but then thought about getting the Lumia 1020 for the 41 megapixels. then i heard about the HTC one's ultrapixels. i personally like the HTC camera over the Nokia, because of how realistic the photos come out. the Nokia is for someone who wants to put their photos thru PhotoShop. So i decided on the Htc one. I can't wait for my next check, so i can go buy it at Sprint.
I have had the Mega for over a month now and it's MEGA AWESOME!! I was scared of the specs at first but I downloaded a crap load of apps and games the first 14 days and it worked flawlessly! I was waiting for the Note 3, but it's speaker SUCKS. Not worth the price if it isn't flawless. Looks Great thou but they sacrificed sound which is a no go for me! The MEGA Speakers hold up against HTC and it doesn't sacrifice screen space... MEGA Multitasking is unreal on a screen this size!
lol, just did. I stand corrected. The mega is a budget phablet. The HTC can almost give that impression with the camera and specs, but it is still more impressive.
You might also want to note that the Galaxy Mega costs HALF that of the Max unlocked (In the UK at least).. Certainly makes the choice alot easier to make
Watching this on my Note 20 Ultra and they though 6.3 inch screens are excessive, oh how naive we were back in the day 😊Thankfully the bezels have been slimmed down overtime.
Thanks Michael for replying But are you saying that a 720p screen stretched over '6.3 w 233 PPI (below retina) is really no less visible/sharper then 1080p over 5.9 w 386! PPI ? I do compare to people my DNA to any phone out there and it trumps most 720p disps to the naked eye....
I am a proud owner of the note II before that I was the owner of the htc evo I went to the note II because it made my evo look like a child next to an adult. What I missed the most about my evo was how easy it was to download music to it. I have had nothing but issues with that with my note II. The only thing that can get me to buy the htc one max is beats audio and as I can see the one max do not have it like the htc one. So I guess the mega will be the new replacement for my note II.
I saw the screen the other day in a store and its true even though its 720p it looks sharper. Samsung makes the pixels shaped a certain way that makes things seem smoother. I thought the screen looked good.
I like the note 3 and I really enjoy the design over older Samsung phones but I don't like the software very much except for a few features like multi windows and the s pen.
I watched the rollout of the HTC One Max and wasn't impressed so I knew I had bought the right device... Better Camera, Larger Screen, LIGHTER, and MULTITASKING!! Very Important. I can do emails and watch UA-cam on a Big Screen that fits in my pocket! Total Bad Ass!! This thing proved to me that specs aren't everything...
Samsung lags big time in every phone. I love my htc one max and everyone who sees it were amazed as how big and beautiful it is. Even one of my friends who tested it, asked me if I'm willing to trade my htc one max to his galaxy note 3. I said, no way. I love this phone. No lags. Samsung note 3 lags and all samsung phones does. Even the color of the screen is very unrealistic.
I'm thinking to get a one max but I'm just 13 and even though it is great value so much better than my current lumina 5353, it might not fit in pocket. Any help

Max all the way
The gaming performance mentioned at 8:30 is obviously a result of the much lower res on the mega. Good review though!

will u guys going to do a comparison of the Samsung mega and Nokia 1520
I own samsung note 3 but I wanna get a nice samsung tablet. Which one should I get? I'd like to see video comparison on Samsung's pro line up tablets.
We talked a little on the last Pocketnow Weekly about why Sony's a bit underrepresented in our comparisons. ^MF

Just ordered a USED mega 6.3 because of branding...Samsung and one feature not covered TV REMOTE CONTROL...Thanks!

So I guess the mega will be the new replacement for my note II.
watching this in 2019..... lmaooooooooo what big screen.
Rigers Zalli 6.3 inch in 16:9 ratio is actually huge.
Specs really aren't a worry, as I'm coming from the iPhone 4 lol, so I think I'm going to go the Mega.
the best sir..subscribed HTC MAX for me for media purposes Movies and such
They're both the same size but the screen is bigger on the mega.....sadly Verizon doesn't carry the mega
I like your style of reviews mate..keep it up...
Was there really an iNeed?
I like the Note3 better (I have one) because the Mega processor and other specs are really a blown up S2.
I like my h_t_c 1 but I just get crazy looking wavy looking pictures when I'm trying to use the night vision. How can I correct that?
I saw the screen the other day in a store and its true even though its 720p it looks sharper. Samsung makes the pixels shaped a certain way that makes things seem smoother. I thought the screen looked good.
The bigger screen is the bigger entertainment..
I have the HTC one but it is to small so I need to know where to go for a HTC One Max in the UK
Look on eBay . I ordered mine brand new from there
Who else misses when HTC launched their solid aluminum build devices? Now all we get are these glass slabs.
Who swaps out batteries any more?
I got the Max. I'm just loyal to the HTC brand.
2019?
I like the note 3 and I really enjoy the design over older Samsung phones but I don't like the software very much except for a few features like multi windows and the s pen.
where is sony z ultra? i'll be getting a big screen fone and leaning to sony b/c of high end specs.
I would get the samsung galaxy mega cause of the bigger v screen and can u do a samsung galaxy mega and a sony z ultra comparison
Waiting on my Mega!!!! Can't wait!!!
I will go with the HTC one...
isnt this just the normal size for phones now?
I'm thinking to get a one max but I'm just 13 and even though it is great value so much better than my current lumina 5353, it might not fit in pocket. Any help
+Random and Pointless Vids i think you should just go for it
+Random and Pointless Vids sound is also way better on the one max
+Random and Pointless Vids one max also has a better screen resolution
