  • It's always better to repair something then to just throw it out and buy a new unit if you have the skills. Today I am replacing a faulty EEPROM chip on my 4 year old Sceptre 40" TV. When this chip goes bad the TV does not want to wake up from standby correctly either via IR remote or by the power button the TV itself. It's a fairly easy repair, costing $15 instead of $300 for a new TV.

Would have been nice to see how you are heating up the underside and what you are using.

It's an impressive feat of engineering that they got the single combined scaler-board and power supply combined into the same board.

You could copy the contents of the replacement EEPROM with a cheap reader and use it whenever it goes bad.

Hi, I have Tv that shuts off randomly sometimes for 2 minutes and sometimes for 2 hours and after that it can't be turned on for about 2-3 minutes(sometimes backlight just flash),when that happen TV goes to factory settings every time and I need to set up everything again, the voltages are all seems to be correct,is it possible that the eeprom is bad? Thanks!

What temperature did you set the hot air iron at??? Were there also tiny surface mounted components on the underside of the circuit board??? How did you come to the conclusion, that it was that one chip that was bad???

It's easier to remove from top... use a short section of 16ga solid copper wire long enough to span the 4 pins, pre-coat it with solder, add a little extra solder to each IC pin, then lay the copper wire across the 4 pins and heat.... it will almost immediately allow you to slightly life that side of the IC without damaging the PC board at all. (when you heat the board with hot air, it can cause the lifted pads/traces)
In fact, with nice sharp diagonal cutters with very fine tip, just cut all 8 leads at the IC body... who cares what happens to it now, and it makes removal FAR easier.

How do you like the NVIDIA Shield?? Did you do a review on it?

The shield is the best ARM TV box out there, and still love it! I didn't see the need to do a review on it though as there is hundreds of them already on UA-cam.

My LG TV started doing this with the remote that came with the TV but strangely I have a universal remote that can turn it off and on instantly.

Great video. Is the chip available from digikey/mouser?

    • @madelectronengineering
      @madelectronengineering  5 років тому +1

Not sure, I didn't look. I'm also not sure if it's just a blank eeprom or if it's preprogrammed with info the TV requires.

@@madelectronengineering Seeing as the language was changed I have a feeling that the defaults were written to the EEPROM by the controller. Either way it would be simple to clone the chip you removed to the new one. Cheers. I enjoy these repair videos.

The chip is, but its contents aren't.

Can you please make a video swapping out the Micro USB socket on a DNA275 Vape 💨 Mod Box & Replace it with a USBC Type. Also do the same with the iPhone 📲 swap the lightning port for a USBC/Thunderbolt. That would be freaking amazing!!!!!!
You can get an iPhone 7 New from Cricket wireless for $0 BTW.
Reference #JaiHaze UA-camr upload EVOLV ODIN 21700 Mod for the Mod itself.
People in the chat have been arguing constantly saying it cannot be done. So will you please put an end to the dispute. Thank You.
