Copying the contents of the defective eeprom and writing the data to a new eeprom to repair the set.
The eeprom programmer is SOFi model SP8-A and it uses FlyPro software.
Nice repair! Does this mean the EEPROM chip was faulty, but the software survived?
I think the chip was going bad. The data, if it was corrupt. When you read it. It would of read out the corrupt data to the saved file. And you would of written a corrupt file to a new chip. And it would of not worked. This is done alot on game roms for old retro cartridges.
None the less. This is a bad ass video. You just made a repro RCA lol. Nice job!
A suggestion would be to have a community based, such as on an online electronic forums, to share the data. That way, if someone has a faulty eeprom which they can't read by freezing or heating, there would be another chance to download it.
Wow, that's some skills there man.
Another awesome troubleshooting and repair video - cheers!
I just got a RT809F . So learned a great deal from this video. Great work. The part of when you said vizi-uhoh had me LMAO. Good to know never the less.
Hi I have a question: I got a INSIGNIA model NS-46E340A13 with the same problem when I tried to turn the TV on, the standby light goes off and don't turn on; a seller in eBay told to buy the EEPROM on my mainboard maybe will solve my problem ( this is suppose to fix it on the INSIGNIA with this kind of problem or that after 20 minutes got hot and tunrs itself off ) now he never mention that I have to reprogram the EEPROM so in your opinion do you think I have to do that??? or I can assume the new chip its already programmed ??? please give me your opinion and thank you for sharing your videos they are great and very explicit
+lyon65 You may have a different problem. All of the new eeproms I see listed come pre programmed (except for blanks from suppliers like digikey and mouser and the such)
+norcal715 thank you for your response I bought this eeprom from ABLE TV and they also repair TV main boards on E bay so I'm assuming is already pre programmed as you said anyway thank you for attention to my question and please keep the videos coming I"m already subscribed and I like the way you explain them!!!!
What does freezing the chip mean? You get it cold or something with liquid nitrogen?
My question is: if the EEPROM data is corrupted, how can reading it and writing it into another device work? Wouldn't it mean that even the data written is corrupt?
+Electro It seems that the defect lies at normal room temperatures. either heating or cooling the eeprom will restore complete functionality. Also I have had defects that will not allow new data to be written but can still read existing data with no problem at all. Thanks
+Electro you need dump from worked eeprom, ask someone who has one or can dump it.
Excellent video! Thank you!
Steve, why use the clip instead of drop the IC into the programmer? Was pin # not right?
Do you think my problem is also the eeprom? Here is my problem I have with my 40''RCA model RLC4033 TV the light in the front comes on. I can see the logo on the complete black screen then I assume it turns itself off.
i have this same TV but my problem is the HDMI ports don't work do you think reprograming the EPROM will fix this issue? Also i was thinking about updating the firmware on this TV but have not found any support to fix this issue. Or i can just replace the main board :) I found out that this TV was made by ON Corp (this is manufactured in 2012) not RCA it seems like there was like 3 or 4 companies that built this tv which is aggravating.
thanks for all all of your videos
Thanks for the videos, I have the same problem with my RCA LED TV, I have my Eeprom Reader-Writer. Can you share the data base of your good Eeprom? Thanks
Very similar to RCA's Old chipper check. I wonder if Chipper check would work with these EEproms
There is many eeprom programmers out there ,and usually only will program certain chip types.A devices data sheet should have the programmer needed for it .and various info.
Quite a smart fix. Nice one.
Is a programmed replacement part available?
I got a Medion and im sure its the eeprom but where do i get dumped data for that?.I can buy a blank one from China easy enough though.
The SOFI units on Ebay all say "programmer", which implies ability to write to a chip, but not explicitly saying they can read from a chip. Is there a specific unit to buy to ensure it can do both?
I think I have the "ti866" that reads and writes to the eeprom
VERY GOOD VIDEO! DO YOU KNOW WHERE AND BY WHOM THESE RCA TVS ARE BEING PRODUCED? I HAVE NOT REPAIRED AN RCA TV SINCE TCE STOPPED PRODUCTION OF THE BRAND. YOUR EEPROM READER AND SOFTWARE IS MUCH BETTER THAN THE CHIPPER CHECKER THAT WE USED WAY BACK WHEN EEPROM SETS STARTED BEING PRODUCED.:-)
Hello, I liked your video a lot and it can help me, but when I turn it on after fixing it, the image looks
Nice got a link on where to buy that read and writer ?
please help me !! how i can get the program of EEPROM for any TV ?
I Have a Insignia LS-lcdtv32lcd it comes on and says no signal but buttons don't work only the power button works . tried to press menu button but got nothing no sound or anything !
Can you fix mine? I have the same exact TV model and problem with it 😔 I took it in January for repair, which didn't last, it's now having same problem again.
Is there anyway I could send you a LG Y-SUS Board to repair? Your video's are great, keep them up!Thanks
nice technical vid. How about some more technical info on the EPROM reader. ebay link and the eproms numbers . keep up the vids
Just for clarification, if the EEPROM was corrupt, how does reading it and rewriting it to another chip help? Wouldn't it read the corrupt data?
Nevermind, I rewatched the video and saw that you froze it.
Wooo another Redding guy. Great videos man. Keep it up.
My TV is an LG 32LH5000, it was fine & then I turned it on the other day & now the screen has flashing green vertical lines all across it. I can still see the picture in the background, but the flashing green lines make it unwatchable. I can't afford a new TV, so thought I'd see if anyone knows whats wrong with it before I try do a DIY job & probably will end up destroying it completely, leaving me without a TV. Any help or pointers will be greatly appreciated before I go DIY on it.
where i can download the bin file i need for rca led 32b30rq
May i know where did you buy the clip for used on the chip/
+Jhun Cruz Go to ebay and look for SOIC adapter, pay attention, there are 150mil and 200mil adapters.
Free SPI programmer: google for SPIPGM (via LPT port).
Nice, What model is that?Could you give a possible link to it on ebay?
Thank you.
+DizzzyKipper The model is SOFi SP8-A and the software is FlyPro. Thanks
cant locate fuse on my RCA L42WD22YX6 TV
Great fix.
Thanks for the video.
Very nice and interesting. Thanks!
Nice repair, thanks. I bought a programmer after they said it was compatible with W8, then I found out that it wasn't. And their website is in Chinese - so I guess I got ripped off.
So lets say that freeze spray doesn't work. How would I go about getting the proper eeprom? Do I just order one for the correct Model TV?
Shadetreetrader11 Just buy a whole new refurbished main board from EBay.com or ShopJimmy.com,just replace it.If you don't do this for a living.By buying a new EPROM chip and buying a refrigeration freeze can stray,EPROM data's transferred reader and looking for the program to transferred old EPROM data to the new EPROM chip that a lot worked also must have skilled for one time deal fixing. The whole new refurbished main board not that expensive like maybe cost like 30% more but than you just take out the old board and put in the new refurbished board then you're done.
But I'm wondering what data is stored on the eprom? In other words, can I install a brand new unused eprom in a TV? Will the TV fire up?
Just by replacing the EPROM chip alone. The tv will fire up and work. But your tv now have no data in the EPROM chip. The tv have no memories for the main board to have controls functionality like tv remote controls to works properly. All the RCA AV outputs will not functions also all the HDMI outputs will not work either.
Ahhh, I see now. OK, thanks for the information.
Chi Chu Hey there , so getting a new EEPROM for my tv would prove pointless if I don't transfer the old EPROMs data
How can I restore eeprom on Sony kd65x8505c that was interrupted during update.
You may have to contact Sony to get a bootable USB to re Flash the firmware. Otherwise the main board would most likely need to be replaced. Sorry and thanks for watching.
can i just buy another eprom?
Great find nice work
Buenas me podrias pasar el archivo bin de ese modelo de tv porfavor
thanks sir sharing imported information
Thanks for this video.
Very clever!
Thanks for the info
What do you use to freeze it?
+Beau Michna Electronic duster, don't shake the can, turn it upside down and spray what you want to freeze for a few seconds.
Or some "freeze it"
Please put the program here 👇👇
Good video thank u
thank you very good
Thanks
So the TV forgets it's a TV? Great
just software
Good tip
