just found this - it's fantastic! I've got a Garmin like that and have been wondering how to make it the easiest to put it on the little boat and take it off when I'm done for the day. This looks perfect! Thanks. And as others have said - very entertaining 🙂
Thank you so much for this video! I have this exact finder, and took it out of the box in mass confusion, but this video explains everything so much! Definitely got a sub 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Just found this, very entertaining and transparent. I even have an old troller mount, nice! I am going to use through bolts with nylock nuts instead of glue simply because I like being able to dismantle instead of hacksawing but otherwise very ingenious :). Hope you have had a great time since posting this and you are safe and still enjoying life! I have had a garage looking like yours, it's a process, lol.
Awesome idea man! I'm looking to rig up something for a rental pontoon. I'm thinking I could mount that transducer clamp right to the front floor of the pontoon or a side rail.
I like at 1:20 "I wash everything after every time I go out", to now (2023) leaving the boat in the water 24/7 and occasionally scraping off the barnacles that grow on the hull. Has this setup changed much in the time that you have been using it? Have you refined the setup of the fish finder or wanted to go higher end? Thanks for the video.
I realize this is a somewhat old video and someone may have already told you (I'm not reading all the comments to find out), but the yellow thing on your red wire is a fuse holder. It just snaps together, pulling from each end should snap it apart. Grip the yellow housing though, don't pull the wires!
Great vid. Thx Why are you not mounting the trancducer direct to the bow of the boat This way you wont be able to use the depthmeter while driving fast
You did a great job with this! Probably going to use your ideas. The Minn Kota bracket is a little steep so I’ve got to decide if I want to spend on that. It does make it a simple operation though it seems. Was wondering if you have a trolling motor and if so, why not mount it to the shaft or the prop motor? I have a canoe with a trolling motor , but I wouldn’t mind just adding your mount. Thanks for the work putting this video together.
Thanks for watching! If you have a trolling motor, the garmin striker 4 came with a dongle to mount it to the base of the motor. I dont have one since i use a little 2hp outboard, but you should be able to.
Awesome setup. Gives me an option for a Sundolphin plastic boat. Question.. how did you mount the pipe on the transom so it doesn't spin. Also we need to find an ammo box setup that would transport the screen with battery.
@OffTheHook! thanks Lucky I kept my old minkota transom. Just noticed the tightening screw for the shaft to slip up and down. Great video for this Saskatcewan dude that can't wait for this freezing weather to go away Chimo
Can you leave the transducer down the whole time while you drive the boat or will it snap or bend? I have a 6hp and the boat can get up to 12 mph at times. Not sure if I have to constantly raise and lower it depending on if I’m going full throttle or slow.
I have accidentally left it down many times and never noticed any bending. Although, there are probably cheaper clamps that you could use if you didn't want it to raise/lower.
Great video, my friend, congratulations. I have the same Garmin, and you mention that you intend to use the transducer at an angle. Did you do any real testing? Does the transducer work at a slight angle? Thanks for your attention.
Do you keep the ammo box/fish finder display between your legs, on the bottom of your kayak? I’m debating where to mount my display, but I feel just keeping it in between my legs on the bottom of my kayak would be simple and efficient, while making the fish finder super easy to operate!
I dont use a trolling motor since my main motor is a 2hp (now upgraded to a 5hp). It works well for trolling without needing a separate trolling motor. I put the fish finder off to the side of the stern, and my main motor in the center.
I'm not sure if Porta-Bote ships to the UK, there might be some authorized dealers though - I would call or email the company to find out. If you have already checked craigslist and FB marketplace for used ones, you can also join the "Porta Bote Fanclub" page on Facebook. Occasionally users will post their boat for sale there and I have seen plenty outside of the US. Hope you find one soon!
WOW - thank you all for 10k views! Hope this build was useful to some and inspired some unique builds.
Just an FYI, the yellow compartment on the red wire is a fuse to protect the unit from over charged from battery.
"Wire crimper 2.0". LOL! Yellow piece in the wire is the fuse. Great video and comical. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Great job! Good fishing my friend!
I just built that transducer mount for my drift boat and it works GREAT! Thanks for this video! Keep up the good work bro!
Great to hear! Thanks for the support!
Very nice DIY mount idea, so good I just had to order that bracket. Thanks bud
Thank you for sharing this setup. You are awesome. I don't own a boat and just need a setup like this on a rental boat occasionally.
Thanks for the support!

Nice video - simple to follow - Great Job 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Dood, you’re a genius. A+. 🤩😍
Haha, thank you!

Still using the same setup today. Boat is now back in the garage too ;)
Good job..well done..👍👏

my boat fold up, so it's gotta be able to come off. Didn't see a great way to secure it other than this...
Nice tips. Thanks bruh

Chimo
THE YELLOW BIT IS THE FUSE
3A fuse by specs
You should be able to heat up the back of the connection on the female connector. Most are heat shrink. No need for electric tape.

Ha-ha! Smart idea! Thanks!

@joseribeiro3012 it does work at an angle (as long as its in the water), but I usually just leave it all the way down or all the way up.
Mine is a piranhamax 4 does yours and mine hook up and work the same way

I have a porta bote, so it gets bungeed to the seat. A lot of kayakers mount the fish finder to the kayak itself and put the battery in the hull.
Did the battery come with the charger as well? Thank you for the ideas on how to get my fish finder set up!
unfortunately mine did not, but some do. I think the charger was $10-15 on amazon.
Is that an extra clamp so where does your trolling motor go if that's for your trolling motor
I dont use a trolling motor since my main motor is a 2hp (now upgraded to a 5hp). It works well for trolling without needing a separate trolling motor. I put the fish finder off to the side of the stern, and my main motor in the center.
Where do you put the unit in your Porta-bote I have a 12’ do you put it on the back or middle seat?
I use a bungie to strap it to the rear seat, but you could do the middle seat if you wanted
Inline fuse. The wonders of gen z
Mate great idea im buying all the parts just wondering with the box was it the large or small one on the link cheers
It's the large one!
how long does the battery last if the fishfinder is turned on all the time?
Mine lasts about 3 fishing trips. So maybe 20ish hours.
You look like the actor John Kozak
Hey what size pvc did you use? I find 1in pvc but the minn kota shaft is 1 1/8? Will the 1 inch pvc work?
I think that is what I used. The mounting bracket has a tightening screw, so it doesn't have to be perfect
Grey pvc is electrical conduit.
The yellow blob is likely a fuse
It is a fuse, read the directions in the box. LOL.
lol. reading is hard.
What transducer is that link please
Garmin Striker 4! I added the link in the description. Thanks for watching!
What size pvc did you use?
anyone know how i can get a portabote if i live in the UK, no one seems to sell it to the Uk

@@OffTheHookFishing thanks
I think the yellow blob on the red wire is a ferrite bead - it's to help with electromagnetic interference.
Yellow piece is the inline fuse.
I just subscribed
thanks for the support!
When is trash day ...just admiring ur collection in the back ground??
HAHAHA! That would be my roommate's (she has since moved out, thankfully). Thanks for watching!
What size PVC did you use?
I'm not entirely sure, but the mounting arm bracket is made for 1 1/8th inch shafts. The pvc i used is the most common size you see
I made a similar set up using 1 1/4” abs. Just fits down a 6” hole 😬
It's 3/4" pipe bro. At minute 17:46 you can see it on the pipe.
Over kill on the transducer set up. But good if you hace a trashed motor.
I wouldn't consider this overkill since I primarily fish in the ocean where the chop and swell can get pretty rough. Better safe than sorry!
Mine is a piranhamax 4 do they work the same and it's not electric either
Not familiar with that fish finder, but im sure you could make it work with a similar build!
The two that you were using Vise grip the thing on the wire fuse
The yellow thing looks like a fuse holder.
yellow section = fuse
the yellow bulb is a fuse
I have a 14 by 3 Jambo play shallow one that is
You need a proper bench dude.
100% agree. Lol
