Also called "Bog Island" because pulic toilets were down the steps. I think that tree by the Abby is more than 100 yrs old, and they also used to hang people from it.
I also remember the water fountain working and drinking the warm coppery tasting water which was fed from the hot spring source in Bath which also feeds the Roman Baths. It was disconnected after some people became sick drinking it and it was found to contain pigeon dropping contamination.

Lovely video. I used to live in Bath (in Stall Street across the road from the roman baths). My only quibble with this video is his explanation of the origin of the name Bog Island. I don't believe it, reality is much funnier. By the way I was once invited by a musical friend to rock up to his house with my flute. He handed out music and we got into a boat, and played chamber music all the way down the river to that park where the weir is today (before the weir was built!). Great memories... Now I want to go back to Bath!
Thank yo so much for the kind words. I am so glad it brought back so many fine memories. I also appreciate your close attention to detail. I like to insert a little deliberate mistake in each video. I find it helps start conversations. However, I must admit, I don't think this was my best one. I seem to have upset the natives.

They are very different Ruqayah. First, you must consider your major and the school. Then, weigh the overall atmosphere. Bath is a bit more laid back and eclectic. My personal knowledge is not as thorough. I would suggest spending a long weekend in both to truly get a feel. If that isn't possible, reach out to current students via social media (i.e Facebook, blogs etc.) to get a feel for both places, as well as just searching the things to do on campus and in the area, matching your preferences and personality.

Apparently the oldest house in Bath is just off Broad Street near King Edwards School. Possibly constructed of white or blue lias. There used to be a lias wall at the narrow entrance to Shires Yard next to Dr Oliver's on Broad street. True locals have thick skin for a reason but if you ask for local information you may be quaintly surprised. There is a running joke between locals: if you live in Bath and you have a suntan then you have just come back from a holiday in hell.

Your history is wrong..The Celts were all over Europe before the expansion of the Roman Empire. Celts even invaded and conquered the city of Rome. They weren't pushed into the North...and Britain isn't a mongrel nation..all those early tribes were closely related Europeans and invaded in small numbers...Vikings, Saxons, Normans are all Germanic peoples.
