You two ladies have done a brilliant job with this video! Really "top-drawer" in my op. As a former tin miner I can say with all sincerity, "Far nicer to have worked under-gound for RTZ (Rio Tinto Zinc), that any flippin' Romans!" We went a hell of a lot lot deeper and a lot further than the ancient miners, so the heat and humidity was far more intense, but we were paid well, had great health and safety, and were respected by our employer. There's a lot to be said for that!
Thank you Tim! That’s a huge compliment, we worked really hard creating this episode! So I’m glad it’s hit the mark! Wow thats a fascinating job to have had! We couldn’t imagine what the conditions would have been like back in the Roman lead mines, more than likely horrendous. Sadly we couldn’t find much research on conditions for this site! Would have been interesting to know more.
Excellent. Informative. I visited Bath recently. I wish I had watched this before I did so! Mendip Hills Charterhouse lead is in the Colosseum? Wow! (assuming true)
Wow, what a wonderful overview of the history of the Roman baths in Britain! Thank you for creating this tour video and sharing it on your channel. It was full of fascinating information and I really learned a lot. For example, I didn't know that "Britain was the chief source of lead in the Roman Empire". That's impressive. Cheers!
Hi ladies, done it again missed you yesterday.Wow what a lot of wonderful history, I always heard of the Mendip Hills but never knew it's Roman connections, been to Bath, but never went to the Bath house, looks stunning and so glad it had a national status. Your commentary of your videos is always well spoken, clear and a source of knowledge, look forward to next video
What a great video of Bath, and the surrounding area, providing a lot of detail of the way of life of the Romans. This gave a lot of details that I didn’t get find out when I visited Bath. Great job! PS. You ladies are cute!
What a great tour and I'm glad you started with the mines. It was integral to the story of Bath. My wife and I toured Bath in 2002 and this video reminded us of so many forgotten memories. However, I distinctly remember sampling the spring - it tasted like a salt lick or mineral block for livestock. Don't ask me how I know. 😂 Thanks again for this video, you two are a treasure on UA-cam. P.S. your quilt jacket at the mines was amazing! My wife is trying to find it online to get one herself.
Glad you liked how we put the the tour together!! It was our favourite part exploring the mines! Haha it tasted so strange!! 😝 Thank you that really means a lot to us! 🥹 If it’s Ellie’s Jacket, it’s a Levi’s one I think 🤔
What an episode!!!! Ahhhh! So good! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 I love your trips! You follow what seems like a strong documentary style that is sooo watchable. Love you both. Also really enjoy your digs as well. It occurred to me at the end while you were in the gift shop that your finds may totally out-do any gift shop offerings. (Chocolates excepted 😁). The food at the end surely made up for the pizza dinner on day one. 💕💕💕💕
We really enjoy filming in the documentary style, but I think we could film a whole behind the scenes Vlog of all the shenanigans 😂 maybe that would ruin the magic though! The cafe at the end was such a great find! We felt a little underwhelmed after having such a wonderful day at the nature reserve by ending it with Dominoes 🍕😆
OK,so this is a perfect example of what I love from the two of you. Seeing finds, yes that’s wonderful of course, but this one,you talk about THE LAND. This place, wherever in the world we live,we tend to just walk around, never minding the incredible history that lays at our feet. You showcase this. To you both,I cheer “Bravo!!” This is important, lest people forget. It was forgotten before,no? Also, here’s a fun thing for you: I have enough Roman coins to fill a coffee mug. Not detector found, but from the VERY early car boot-like days of eBay,back when people were selling things that they had no idea about. I’m talking 1997-1999. It was a treasure free for all😊
Thank you Charles! We really wanted to do something different with the Bath story. As there’s really only one ruin to see in Bath!! We loved exploring the nature reserve, I guess that’s where we’re most at home, on the land. But it was amazing to think how man made the landscape actually was! Have you managed to identify any of your coin jar Roman’s? 🤓🙏🤎
Well, only my Hadrian one, which I never cross an ocean without. And even that one,it was identified by the seller. I am rubbish when it comes to ID,as I’m just here on my dinky phone,no desktop, laptop,WiFi or even a television 😅 I may be able to send pics of them. For the record,I don’t keep them in a jar or coffee mug,I used that as a reference to the volume.
Thank you so much for this fascinating tour. I particularly enjoyed looking at the curse offerings, which I knew about but had never seen images of. I must make time to do more reading about them. The statues are extraordinary. And I enjoyed your review of the spring water.
Really well done video. Very interesting and informative. I visited Bath on a trip to the UK and fell in love with the city. So beautiful. Despite having been there before, I learned many new things from your video. Thank for such a thorough history and brining us all along,
Fantastic work on the video, Lucie and Ellie! Your presentation was informative and engaging. A hearty congratulations on achieving the milestone of 5,000 subscribers! Warm wishes from Adelaide, Australia. 🦘🦘
Thank you so much Peter! It was a wonderful tour to film, we’re glad you found it engaging! Can’t believe we made it to 5,000! A celebratory post is needed to mark the occasion I think!! 🤓🤎🙌
@@RomanFound lol. I must show my Mum your vid so she can see her old house on the crescent. Always wondered why theres so little known of the Romans in Bath, also if the canal follows a Roman road?!.....
That’s one of the reasons we had to look outside of bath to tell its story! Surprisingly no other Roman remains apart from the baths! And we even asked locals while we were exploring for any insider knowledge that perhaps scraped through our research! Nothing! 😂 Love that your mum lived on the crescent!!
@@RomanFound It's strange isn't it! You'd think someone would know something or have found something by now! She loved living there, such a beautiful place.
Just discovered u ladies ,and it’s a yes from me 👏🏻 had to subscribe , loved the knowledge, made me feel a bit intelligent understanding u both 👏🏻🤣 BathCity is my home
Gosh, that was good. Thanks Ellie and Lucie. Not sure if you’ve been to Vindolanda yet? We briefly talked about it at Autumn Detectival. Also take in Homesteads site. Would be a great video/edition. Thanks again
I wonder if the flooding caused by the Avon was climatic ? Pretty sure things were quite a bit warmer overall than today in the Roman epoch although seeing wooly hats in May makes me think otherwise! Great fun to watch and share your knowledge as always
Sorry was meant to read that seeing wooly hats makes me think it was defo warmer in the Roman. Different story today with the weather, all that rain however will extend the good detecting days window into June hopefully
Hey Roman Found! me and my friend have just got into metal detecting and we were wondering, when you detect on private land how do you find the owners of the land to ask there permission?
Hey there! Thanks for your question! There’s only really one way and that’s door knocking or asking around to see who owns the land that you want to seek permission for. We usually ask people we know for available land as that’s a bit easier than door knocking, but if you’re confident get knocking! 🤓
There are other spa's using the water that people can bathe in. The problem is too massive to make it fit for human use. You'd basically have to destroy a lot of the ruin to do that. Thought I should add: I used to work there and have drained and cleaned the great bath myself.
I have often wondered if the Romans cursed the islands weather and wondered why on earth they would want to be in charge of such property. I would like to know if the climate was better 2000 years ago. Not a place for sandled feet. Bloody miserable.
It's not always like that (I don't like someone calling my home bloody miserable). But yes, many Romans complained about the weather in Britain. Especially in the north! I remember reading a story of a soldier from the Lavant (basically Palestine) complaining about the cold on Hadrian's Wall.

A piece of Roman life and Roman ingenuity in the unwelcoming, cold environment. All it lacks is Italy's sunshine.
I don’t know how they coped in all the drizzle! 😂

Who would have thought mineral rich water inside of lead tasted like metal.
Sad that you can’t get a good roof over the water to get rid of that alga.
Probably a stupid question. But if it's a health hazard to be using the baths. Shouldn't drinking the water also be a problem?
The drinking water is probably uv filtered from source, well one would hope 😂
An area of 'outstanding beauty'? It's some few square miles of scrubby, beat up scrubland.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
High quality videos doesn't take views people are like pigs they want rubbish to enjoy
Get a roof on it and let people bathe (treat the water if it's needed) ! What a waste.
There are other spa's using the water that people can bathe in. The problem is too massive to make it fit for human use. You'd basically have to destroy a lot of the ruin to do that.
Thought I should add: I used to work there and have drained and cleaned the great bath myself.

Hahah we asked the same question 😂 I bet it was a shock to be stationed here!
@@RomanFound I never thought of that before. Choices: Mediteranian beach vs Rainy Bog? How much was the pay again? lol.
😂 not enough haha
