Of all the ways of traveling through space, this is the one method that I would avoid. Sure, the ship travels great distances but it just seems that 99% of the wormholes encountered seemed disastrous with the exception of the Bajoran wormhole. I will stick to warp 9.975 for now. Peace and long life 🖖
The wormhole in TMP... If you think about it, that's a hell of a technology to want to exploit. Woluldn't that have been a transwarp conduit? If you can create wormholes on the fly by misaligning your warp field, you'd probably want to just do that all the time instead of ripping through space in a warp bubble. Seems like it might be a more efficient way to travel.
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I think this is where Starfleet got the idea for the Excelsior's 'transwarp' drive. It may have failed, but that would be consistant with the unpredictability of non-Bajoran wormholes in the Star Trek universe.
While not totally related to the video, I think its interesting to mention that in the William Shatner novel "The Return" its revealed that it was the Borg who upgraded the Voyager 6 probe into what became V'Ger. Again, it's beta canon and it was the basis for the way we see the Borg in Star Trek Online. But still an interesting little tid bit I thought.
One of the more annoying things about The Motion Picture is that Trek never goes back and revisits the data gained from the V'ger encounter... And yes, I see it as just one of the things. About wormholes, Doohan said that I don't know a damn thing about the science behind all the stuff we do, but I know that there is no difference between space and time 'cause you can't have one without the other. This was when he was visiting a bunch of Trek fans in Corpus Christi Texas around a year after The Motion Picture came out and I got his autograph... And a hug.
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I can't remember which episode but Data mentions "information from the V'Ger encounter" once almost in passing. However it's unclear as to if he means information from V'ger or information from the Enterprise scans.
The "wormhole" in the first motion picture never made sense to me. Later films and TV series never mentioned a wormhole near the solar system either. Were the science advisors available back then? Or was it a simple writer's neglect. What would make sense given the tech and lore is that when they jumped to warp, the bubble captured an asteroid in front of them which then started drifting towards the ship in the warp bubble, endangering the ship. If such capture is not a thing, how did the Delta Flyer enter the slipstream in front of Voyager when only Voyager is mentioned to have the drive?
That's because it was a wormhole created by an engine imbalance not an actual static wormhole! :) And the asteroid was captured because the ship wasnt dropped in to subspace to achieve warp... At least not fully! As for Voyager, the slip stream conduit is projected in front of Voyager by the ship itself... So it makes sense the Flyer could travel ahead... What doesnt make sense is how after Voyager dropped out of Slipstream how the flyer continued... The only wqs would be if both ships were generating the field some how for each ship... But then that also doesnt make sense as the whole point of the flyer was to map Voyagers slipstream...
oh you used the original scene of the asteroid being destroyed. I haven't seen that in a long time. I'm used to the redone scene from the director's cut of the motion picture
I love both versions, and will watch whichever im in the mood for... But I specifically only use the theatrical release versions because of canon! :) So enjoy the trip down memory lane :)
Those are great questions that are never really answered... Though I always got the impression that it didnt really affect their speed by much or their distance...
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios Most likely, but if it was a faster system, then they could learn what the imbalance was, and balance the imbalance. From the visual effects it looked fast per the image stretching. I think that is what they were going for.

The Bajoran Wormhole was NOT artificial, I checked with multiple sources and this is what was said..."Because it was stable, the Bajoran wormhole did not have any of the usual resonance waves found in other wormholes. (DS9: "Emissary") It was theorized by Starfleet that the wormhole was formed by verteron, particles that were self-sustaining in nature. Hence there is nothing in Star Trek canon, that suggest the Bajoran Wormhole is artificial.
