The martial arts genre was huge hit for anime back in the 80’s and 90’s (EX: Street Fighter 2V, Crying Freeman, Fatal Fury, DBZ). Now it seems like Netflix is reviving it with Kengan, Baki, Tekken, Records of Ragnarok, and now this.👍
I wouldn't call Record of Ragnarok "martial arts".
More like a battle/tournament series...
@@eccentriconyt True, but it does have some of that excess amount of martial arts element that you would see in other anime like hxh or yuyu hakusho
They need to keep dat shii tbh
@@fireball9595 You're just throwing out random anime bro. Tekken and Kengan are both old anime. This is showing us that marital arts anime (for the real die hards) is going in the right direction. Thats all.
Anyone remember old Shadow Skill OVA and tv series. Miss that one.
Yes fantasy but still martial arts their weapons was their fists and legs.
Loved Tenjou tenge for what it was but too many fillers and flashbacks.
Kurokami(Black God)
As both a hardcore Combat Sports Fan and Weeb. I want to say thank you Netflix for gifting us this!
There's a difference between a "weeb" and an anime enjoyer but I agree with what you said.
What is a weeb?
Weeb-wapanese-wannabe Japanese. Someone who wants to be Japanese but he's not
Now we just have to hope Dana keeps his grubby fingers off of these shows so they can continue being good
@@pillepolle3122 Weeb is short for Weaboo, its a general term for people who really like Japanese Culture such as things like Anime and Manga and potentially take to extreme levels through obsession over Japanese Culture despite not being Japanese themselves.

YEARS HAVE PASSED AND WE FINALLY HAVE A GAROUDEN ANIME! THANK YOU NETFLIX!
When is it released?
Which Garouden?
Right 15years
Btw which garouden is it kesukei or other one

It's the novel
Lots of MMA anime is being made for Netflix, better than the typical high-school themes
Exactly. And Netflix can still bag the paycheck if they manage to get the Tough series under their helms as well.
3 is a lot ? Lol
Tough is great but the series has a 112 volume and it's still ongoing ...
@@Hellsing7747 my friend, how's that bad thing?
High school themes get boring sometimes
This is where Netflix thrive in my own opinion.
First Baki Hanma vs Kengan Ashura
And now we get to see this show
Is it already out?
@@Iam_Bigdanno!
And sooner or later we'll also get Tough. No doubt about it
@@hashshashiinme7656 Ok. thank you, sir.
@@JoeInTheElementoh god I wish they animate tough one of the best martial art manga out there
If we're talking about the best MMA stories ever told?
In terms of japan, Garouden is THE GOAT!!
Welcome to the West, King!!
Truth. Garouden is the best I have ever read. Beating Baki by a good margin, and that is my second favorite.
no thats kengan ashura by a mile
@@justthatguy1808 Kengan is interesting because I consider it as being "consistently" better than Baki, but it's high points aren't as high.
@@philliparnesen4493
The manga is by far the greatest pure martial arts manga by pure i mean no super powers or energy blasts etc.
The anime was pure garbage and thats why it didnt get the respect it deserves.
If MAPPA did the animation from start to finish it would be anime of the year.
Baki is just axx pulls and nonsense but fun to watch 🤣
@@justthatguy1808 Setuna's fighting style is nonsensical by real world standards. The chinese dude who can hypnotize you by clapping.... Muteba.... I like Kengan a lot but it actually is more unrealistic than Baki in ways I care about. Exaggerated feats of strength and speed don't bother me, but I like it when the author tries to adhere as closely to real world martial arts as possible.
This is the reason I keep Netflix. By far some of the best anime content. This is my favorite genre of anime. Genuine hand to hand combat.
2:04, that individual is the actual main protagonist of the Garouden story , named Bunshichii Tanba.
I PREFER BUNSHICHII RATHER THAN JUZO AS THE MC, THAT'S ALL! 🇯🇵🤼🥋🥊🏟️📺👍
@@gregjaro-mk7zsSame. No idea why they thought making Fujimaki the MC was a good idea.
This is some more gravy for Garouden fans, this is not part of novels or manga.
@@RX29 Because this is something to hype up an animated series of the main Garouden story, they are warming the waters.
That's not Tanba, Tanba has a cut in his right Eyebrow
Something I like about Garouden is that every adaptation of this novel series goes in a completely different direction, and this is clearly no exception. I'm excited to see what this new take Yumekumura's world brings to the table.
Idk man yumekumura isn't that great of a writer
@@murderman8578 I admit he isn't the best
@@murderman8578 how many translated novels have you read from him, by the way?
But then who's the main protagonist/hero of the story? Isn't it Tanba?
@@JoeInTheElement Tanba is the protagonist of Garouden, but this series seems to have Fujimaki Juzo as it's protagonist instead, and appears to be an original story set after Fujimaki's arc in the novels (and manga).
Garouden is the best martial arts novel ever and each of its have been masterclasses so far
I expected keisukes art style but as long as this is garoudean: I’m watching.
Me too. Weird that it seems to be from the perspective of Fujimaki instead of Tanba.
@@marcellXcatalyst yeah, maybe the series will cover tanba’s and tatsumi’s story in a next season if it happens.
i think they can't use Itagaki art style because he is busy doing Baki dou anime and draw Baki Rahen, he can't direct all of that in the same time plus they might change the storyline.
@@Han-nk3io at least they change the tournament
@@someolddude3827 Wait, you're saying, it's the same one as the manga?
Really didnt expect garouden to get an anime, GIVE ME A GAROUDEN BOY MOVIE
That manga was hilarious, halfway through it I was expecting the kid being revealed as not actually being Tanba.
Netflix is finally learning that this is the animation style that sells.
The novels are from 1985, Garouden inspired a lot of Baki and MMA manga back then, so before you compare this to Baki or Kengan, this novel was first
For those who don't know there is also a ps2 game which is based of this show called "Garouden Break Blow - Fist or Twist" and I would highly recommend playing it the combat is so much fun and quite deep.
Honestly one of the best fighting games I've ever played.
The game was based on the manga that was made from the same writers as Baki with the same art style in the mangas
@@Supreme0757the author is Baku Yumemakura but the artist is Keisuke Itagaki, so only the artist is the same.
Also Yujiro is in that game. So I guess you could say that is the only official video game in the world where you can play as lore accurate Yujiro
I hope this Anime inspire American companies in translating the novels. Garouden is a unique street fighting novel series that is different from all the isekai avalanche of mediocre light novels
A martial arts tournament, yes please. I'm sold.
Weird that some people think this series is a Baki ripoff, since it first began as a series of novels around the time (if not right before) Baki started its run. Itagaki and the author of Garouden know eachother, some characters from Garouden have even appeared in a few of the Baki spinoff mangas.
New tournament anime let’s fucking go!
Can't get enough of these martial arts animes they keep bringing to Netflix!
GAROUDEN FINALLY!
is garouden the same universe as baki hanma
@@redhood1278 it's complicated, the main thing connecting the two franchises is a crossover spinoff that may or may not be canon.
@@madeforcomments3643 there was also a panel where it very much seemed like Doppo facing off against Kuga.
@@JoeInTheElement It could also just be an easter egg, we'll just have to wait and see how the stories of these franchises develop before we know for sure.
@@redhood1278 Yes but only minor cameos, we won't see Kuga, we won't see the Baki crew. I think they are giving a new story to Garouden fans (maybe a full story later?)
Baki and Kengan Ashura will have their crossover soon!
Garouden - can I get in on this, next year?
What I wish is that in the future, 5-6 years later or even more, after Netflix gets it's hands even on the Tough series, that we'll probably get a crossover fighting game with a roster hosting characters from Baki, Kengan, Garouden and Tough. Which for me as a martial arts fanatic fighting fan and passionate video gamer, would be a wet dream come true.
It's giving Kengan Ashura vibes❤️🔥🔥
It was made by baki creator
@@Gokuuuuuuuuuuuu479 🔥🔥!
I see. They are most definitely going to take a lot of liberties with the how the story played out and described in the manga. First change here is the visual one. Fujimaki looks more like serial killer in the original manga and the games while here he as babyface (almost). He also never sported a beard but they gave him one now. Second, that the reason he's on the run from the cops is because he killed a drunk who put hands on and violated his master's daughter who also happened to be his love interest at that time. But here they say that it was some random thief . Third, they are setting up Bunshichii as the main antagonist of the story, while in the original manga, its vice versa and Fujimaki is one of the greatest hurdles to overcome while Bunshichii is the main protagonist.
Yiiikes, those are some major changes. Very Hollywood. 😭😭
The visual is not my concern if you look at jjk season 2 and kaiju no 8. If it all for a better animation then I take that sacrifice
It's based off the novels instead of the Manga Adaptation
One more reason as to why the art style and the characters seem different very well maybe a Netflix thing, as it may want Garouden to be on par with Baki and Kengan in character presence and aura. So to achieve that, studio NAZ may have consciously chosen to beef up the characters, give them beards and stubbles , and in case of some totally remove the androgynous elements of their appearance (Himekawa).
Im pretty sure the narration of him killing a "thief" that invaded his master's dojo is an outsider view, since he is protecting her honour no one knows she got violated. They didnt change that, watch the wholw trailer.
Wait, THAT Garouden?! I only ever read about the Tanba one and I KNOW that this will be a banger! Good job, Netflix!
Garouden was such a awesome manga I hope they do the actual manga anime after this

This garouden looks way more different than what I am used to. For me my only knowledge is the manga garouden illustrated by itagaki . The same guy who does the Baki manga
The only character that I can recognize is the judo who is probably Juuzou but he looks so different compared to the manga. Maybe this is basedon the novel instead.
ooohhh plz, make more of stuff like this, i love this kind of anime and i miss watching something like this nowadays
Fun fact: The manga this anime is based on was drawn although not written by Itagaki Keisuke, the mangaka that drew and wrote Baki.
Whenever I see the word "garou" I always remember terry bogard from fatal fury who is also known as lone wolf

Where Tanba? Where Matsuo Shozan? Where The Great Tatsumi? Where Tsutsumi? This ain't Garouden I know.
Fujimaki doesn't even look like himself, I thought that was supposed to be Tanda. Are they sure they're making a Garouden show?
It takes place in the Garouden novel universe, it has nothing to do with the manga

Me encanta el echo que al final aparece bunshishi tamba. Esto apunta a ser una precuela a lo que hizo Juzo en Garouden. Como que estaba haciendo mientras huia de la ley
Looks good... wish they did an actual adaptation of the Garouden Manga. This seems inspired by it but totally retconned. The one I read was along the lines of Kengan and Baki in terms of the characters portrayed
Looks awesome.
This reminds me of Shootfighter Tekken aka Tough.
Let's hope that Netflix gets it's hands on that one as well. And the holy martial arts combat tetralogy will be complete. Baki X Kengan X Garouden X Tough.

YES!! About time Garouden got another adaptation. Can't wait to see this. A real shame that people credit Itagaki Keisuke for this IP though, considering Yumemakura Baku is the real mind behind the original novels that seem to be the inspiration for this series.
Is this a anime based on Baku Novel and Itagaki’s Manga? Looks different. I liked it until I got halfway in. Got too Blue for my taste. It’s first half though was legendary! The Whole Wrestler Past Arc effected me on emotional levels I never thought possible!
Edit: Okay, looks a bit different…
The same
We got Baki, Kengan and now even Garouden on Netflix. The Holy Fighting Tetralogy will be complete if Netflix gets their hand on even the Tough series.
Is not based on anything, this is the continuation of Jyuzo's story straight from the novel's end.

2:02 Bunshichi Tanba?!?!
Nope
@@kchopp6618 if it wasn't bunshichi tanba then they didn't focus much attention on him as the "final opponent" (and so, given the appearance and importance in the plot, we can conclude that at the end we were shown the protagonist of the original manga)
What is the song that starts at 1:24 ?
I want to know to.
Glad to see it does NOT have Baki style (Keisuke Itagaki did the second adaptation of those novels, before dropping it in a long hiatus); and by the look of it, it should also animate a sizeable arc of the story, nice! I just wish Kengan's anime had this quality!
I thought this was a fatal fury spinoff as the garou series. I thought it was Terry in the beginning with the brown pilot jacket
Why is Fujimaki the protagonist here? lol
Why didn’t they use Keisuke Itagaki’s art style for the faces? 😢
Its not garouden ist garōden

SOME BUFFED GUYS DO SOME BUFFED GUYS THINGS AHH ANIME 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥, imma going to watch this anime
Suban hent@i
😮....
I ll watch! Thanks, Netflix! I love it
I wonder if there is going to the second series where Tanba is the main character. We saw Himekawa, so maybe
Why did they change the art style?
Many things have been changed. The animation looks awesome but they've very much toned the brutality and gritty feeling of the original manga and games here.
I'm not joking when I say that at 0:09 , this scene in the manga is very different. The true reason on why Fujimaki kills the perpetrator and how brutally he does that are not here in this anime .
The manga and this show are both different adaptations of the same series of books.
If they use Itagaki's designs, they will have to pay him. They use original designs so they only pay the IP use.
Now I also feel that the animators and Netflix allowed a much different art style so that characters look formidable and macho enough (they already were tbh) to be visually on par with Baki and Kengan, doing that by beefing up and giving beards and stubbles to certain characters, while removing androgynous elements from others like Himekawa.
@@shadowmarcelo5554 The Guy who made Baki was approached by the guy who wrote the Garouden Novel. And the Baki Creator said he’d make a Manga only if he could make the Manga 1-to-1 with the book. The Manga looked a lot like Baki but, was somehow far more mature.
Solo tiene el nombre , por qué en historia es muy diferente al garouden de Baku Yumemakura y claro el dibujo de keisuke itagaki
I understand your disappointment brother. Trust me , I'm a very big fan of the story and even I am still processing at why they have tweaked and changed a lotta stuff. But please give it a chance.
Ok demos le una gran oportunidad 😅
Fun fact: in the manga he looks like yujiro. He could be be one of Yujiro’s other sons from another part of Japan.
It's like Baki but with slightly more fluid(just slightly from what I'm seeing) animation and I love Baki, so I'm hyped for this.
Not Impressed With the Animation Style😑
It's Not Fresh😒
They could’ve gone with something close to the Itagaki Manga, and it’d’ve attracted a whole lot more. But, the animation looks smoother. Though I don’t think they’re going for Baku’s Novel wholeheartedly. But, I can’t really judge, I only got halfway into Itagaki and Baku’s Manga version
Maybe they'll change it just for you.
The animation itself looks pretty damn good. Some of it, even almost looked like rodoscoping it was pretty crazy looking.
Maybe if they care about your feeling, they gonna change the style but sadly, the world doesnt revolve around you.
This goes hard of pure raw beastly instinct to test your might against might; even the music and beasts roar goes hardcore...
NETFLIX THANK YOU SO MUCH KEEP SHOWING LOVE TO THE MARTIAL ARTS
This is way different from the Garouden I read but I'm super hyped🎉🎉
Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolverine
