- Emma Dahlström and Jesper Tjäder are both professional free-skiers who compete on the Swedish National Ski Team. In their careers, the pair has travelled around the world to ski some of the steepest, iciest and gnarliest slopes. But they had never experienced anything like the sheer vertical madness they took on during a recent trip to Peru. There, they shredded the sandy hillsides of Huacachina and Cerro Blanco-the highest sand dune in the world.

People do this in israel a lot... Mostly snowboard cause it's easier to ride on sand. More people should definitely know about this, super fun. Only downfall is that the trek up is extremely difficult
eit Wachs the trek up is easier you don't have to worry about hungry bears or even el chupacabra

When I was in Breck I talked to a native of Peru and he said if I went to Peru to try boarding on the dunes.
the only problem is if you eat shit, your going to get a face full of sand rather than water
I had this dream, maybe a few years ago now, it looked uncannily similar :) except there were orangey sandstone like parts too that were steeper, and I was on a snowboard and there was more free sand bouncing around down the surface, and at least one river/stream running through the group of dunes. Be amazing to do when awake :)

gorgeous. did you have to do something special to your skis to make them slide in sand? I'm researching a trip to the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado once ski season wraps up, but according to their website regular skis & snowboards won't slide in the sand-- is the sand in peru finer or something?
I wonder why there aren't any resorts with chairlifts for sand skiing...seriously, this seems like a great business opportunity that hasn't yet been fulfilled. Unlike snow, you don't have to make sand when the base is low. Plus you don't have to wait for the right time of season to open the trails, you can pretty much operate all year long.

I would love to do that but I would hate the walk up. I’d bring a dune buggy or something up the dune with me

this is not the highest sand dune in the world....... the highest one is actually in Oman .... 400m height

4000 ft = 1219m from base to summit, but it is more than 2000 m.a.s.l.
