I never really understood the correct technique to prevent smudges on my drawings :s i always thought it was because i had my hand too close to the drawing, which is why i got the habit of holding my pencils in 90° for drawing the main lines.
Yes! The way you hold a pencil is crucial. There are also some people who will slide a white sheet under their wrist to prevent smudges. I am a lefty, so I also usually try to draw the main lines right to left, instead of left to right.
That's pretty cool. I do quite a bit of drafting at work and I love calling out elevation dimensions. Is there actual measure data to base on lengths?
I scaled this one proportionally but it is possible to scale accurately if you assume the height of a door/in game person :)

yes sir, all those minimaps are basically floor plans! and when you get close to a building ,the walls cutting away too reveal the floorplan in 3d :)
