- Lancefield is a rural township 73km (45.5mi), north-west of Melbourne, about mid-way between Kyneton and Kilmore. It is overlooked to the north by the Cobaw and Mount William Ranges.
By 1859, a hotel and store were opened near the ford. The hotel was named the Lancefield, after the Lancefield pastoral run which had been taken up in 1838.

Love Lancefield. The dogs love the wide Centre median strip park. It’s far enough from Melbourne but close enough. It has all the facilities. In some ways it benefits from not being on a commuter railway like Sunbury or Wallan so has avoid huge estates.
The hill behind had that huge bushfire a few years ago started when a DWELP burn off got out of control.
yep the dogs still use the median strip today and a place for those with a dog to stop for a break and let their dogs stretch their legs ... An idea could be for towns to have dog parks for locals and those travelling; I'm thinking it could be a winner with a cafe next to it ; dogs get a run without a lead in safety and owners have a cuppa !
this is so cool! i live in lancefeild and its so nice to learn about the history! especially when my house was in the historic pictures! lovely video
I'm glad you enjoyed it and you can now show others in your family or friends that might not be in Victoria or Australia where you live ! 👍
I think we had relos living in Lancefield in the olden days.
lovely town and growing I believe
xr6lad comment is a winner for an idea ... picture this, you're travelling with your pet and you see a sign on the road stating the next town has an enclosed / fenced off dog run with water for them, managed by the local town and free ... would you stop to let your dog have a run, stretch their legs then buy a coffee and snack for yourself too ? Every town needs a reason for travellers / tourists to stop at their town. Some have skate parks, mountain bike tracks or rail trail paths while many have nothing to supplement their tourism potential !
I reckon another way of getting people to stay in a town is to offer camping facilities, where the town supplies tents etc. while my boat is on the slip I have to live in a caravan park cabin at $ 4,000 for 4 weeks. I cant imagine battlers affording to holiday in anything but staying it tents.
Hey later in the year I'm moving to QLD to a house, so I'll set up my recording studio and post you some background music.
excellent idea 👍
Yay, I spose footage of schools, pubs etc have historical value whereas who wants to see a new house built the year before.
All the bricks and mortar buildings are often train station, post offices, pubs / hotels, banks, churches, mechanic institutes, court houses and petrol stations have stood the test of time !
Talking of opportunities I remember not long ago you could buy a weatherboard house there for 25 grand. Hang on, I'm talking about missed opportunities !
My property in the CBD (stand alone townhouse at street level) was ''cheap'' in 1998 and now, I fell over what developers want to pay for my land !
@@urbanaerialexplorer1885 When the US empire collapses it'll go back to 1913 prices.
Yu mates in government should ask China to build a nice fast rail system to replace all the waste; so every little village can prosper .
It wouldn't surprise me if they do, as there were new estates popping up there, but I would guess not in my lifetime !
