Looking at buying my neighbors W8 MANUAL wagon. If he lets it go for my price range I'll be in the "resto" train. I plan on coilovers, a similar exhaust, and a bulletproof maintenance plan. Cool car!

Keep in mind coilovers while looking cool will hammer the already tired suspension and there are a lot of bits to replace if they go bad. The OE sport springs with Bilstein B6s I have ride fantastic.

@@karstgeo7290 I'd do my due diligence. I think the car has less than 100k on it. And I wouldnt be lowering it a whole lot and dont plan on beating on the car much if I go that route. Modest drop for looks mostly, I also have been reading up on some other mods like the thor skid plate to keep everything protected when lowered. I like the car a lot but I can tell my neighbor is having a hard time letting it go.

@@brettywap2295just don’t buy cheap ones. I bought some in the $500 range and they wore out after only a couple years.

A few years ago I had a W8 Tiptronic - fantastic car. Was actually quite inexpensive over almost 7 years of ownership, around $100cdn a month for buying it & maintenance. After 236,000 (380,000km) often redline miles, something went deep in the block and my VAG guys said it’s done. Now looking at a manual wagon with 130,000km this week!
Things to know about this car.
1 it’s a VW badged Audi S6 chassis with the crazy motor.
2 Stock, it will bury the speedo, having done so in my old one (300km/h = 186mph) Apparently the actual to shown speed is only off by 5mph at top speed
3 has a centrifuge to separate air bubbles in the oil system.
4 has a liquid cooled alternator.
5 points xtra bulkheads and chassis supports for improved chassis rigidity
    6 air conditioned glove box
Just have to look after the little oil screens that would gum up and end up dislodging and getting into some harm causing spot - also cam adjusters need to be examined/fixed to avoid catastrophe

I'm at the higher end of maintenance levels. I'm at 50k miles on my 2018 GTI. It's had two brake fluid changes, spark plug change, Haldex locker fluid change, DSG change, coolant flush, and a car that is 5 years old shouldn't have a single factory fluid in it. This seems expensive to many people, but having a properly maintained vehicle is huge not only on reliability, but driving experience. Being Stage 1 IE tuned with DSG tune I know the car sees more wear and I want to take care of it to continue to enjoy it for many years.

"The service position:" I forgot about that one! I had a new 2003 B5.5 Passat with 1.8T. It was my wife's ride. I learned a lot about hassles with that car. CV joints and a few other things were problematic. The worn interior bits was a B5/Mk4 era problem, probably from VW cheaping out on interiors to save money. That era of 1.8T was subject to oil sludging; so, I stayed on top of oil changes like religion! The car was rude to service, but the ride was nice. I was glad to be rid of it in 2014, though. Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane.

On the contrary the soft touch of that era was part of trying to be upscale. We had a '00 MK4 Jetta that was the same.

I think the w8 Passat wagon is really cool. There is one in the neighborhood. It goes by my house a lot, but I have only seen it once close up in a parking lot. I have 2017 Golf Sportwagen S 4motion DSG. I have kept the power train stock, but had the VW dealer install R front and rear sway bars. 18X7.5 GTI wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport S4. Eventually R struts front and rear. It gets serviced every 3,000 miles and every component serviced a few thousand miles before service recommendations. By having all the changes performed by the dealer using VW parts, my car insurance has addendums added in case of a total, the addendum values will be added on top of the car value. I pay a little more for that coverage, but if I have to replace it, it’s worth it. Love VW Wagens😂

@@karstgeo7290 Oh Yes, I watch all your videos. I was the guy that asked about the R Estate rear valance panel and quad exhaust tips. I purchased 2 three inch tips, but they won’t go on before my 10 year or 100K miles bumper to bumper extended VW Warranty expires. Probably when the R struts go on to. By doing more than the recommended maintenance by the dealer, the only problem I have had was the backup camera went wacky, but it was replaced under warranty. I will continue to follow your stuff. I may look into some power increases after the warranty is up. But then again I’m 72 years old. My 1961 Morris Mini Cooper racing days ended 10 years ago, and my aging reflexes may preclude more HP. In the back roads of Connecticut, those big Oak and Maple trees lining every road aren’t forgiving.
      Thanks for sharing your experiences

The only non VW OEM parts on my 2017 Sportwagen are LAS Fit LED headlight modules, which are exact twist in replacements. No wire or housing mods. The VW Dealership ran tests with them in the car and all resistances and voltage matched the OEM halogen specifications, so I get a pass on them. On a 2003 Beetle convertible I had the same dealership install a VW catalog catback exhaust on, took escalation to US Headquarters to get the later failed catalytic converter replaced under warranty. So been there, done that and it wasn’t fun. So I won’t be putting on the non VW exhaust tips. More weight probably will mess with the OEM exhaust hanger…etc..etc🤔😳😝

@@salvatorecosenza727 aftermarket LED bulbs would 100% ding you if you had lighting issue. Come on man...live your life/enjoy your car, put the tips on haha. Clearly a cat-back would have a idfferent impact than cosmetic-only tips. I'm just not a warranty worrier...I buy my car to enjoy, not worry about what will be covered.

All depends. Spark plugs are very easy to get to. No mechanic is needed. Use Reuthunium. good for 250000. The water pump is a bit more complex, but it's not that hard.
Keeping the oil clean and fresh is your best bet. Use the VW guidelines to the letter .
When it comes to the alternator, starter, tranny, that's a,whole different thing. Big dollars, time, expensive. However, vw built very high quality in them. it will last 😢500k miles.
