Love these tips! Thanks. Finding my new 40s more sophisticated style has been a fun journey and my number 1 rule for myself to avoid over collecting is “if I don’t 100% love I don’t keep it”. And it feels nice to only have items taking the space that I love. Does not matter what trends are etc, we must love it because that will be the least “cost per wear” whether you just look at it or wear it or both. Have fun peeps ❤✌🏻
Such fantastic advice! I really agree with buy the things you’ll really use and enjoy all the time! I’ve been a victim to that mentality of buying something fancy for an occasion that seldom comes around and then it never gets used. The pandemic drove that home for me. I did buy an expensive bottle of my favorite perfume during lock down and I spritzed it on every single day! It made me feel normal and happy. Best $400 I’ve spent!
You’re always so open and willing to be vulnerable- here, it’s by sharing your feelings, thoughts, mistakes, lessons learned, and regrets… I appreciate that about you So very much! Your vids are always interesting, thought provoking, candid, classy, authentic, and enjoyable… So many great points & helpful lessons - thanks for sharing! You’re awesome! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Your comment about finding your own style is so true. I’m currently in the process of selling YSL, Gucci bags, bc they’re not my style truly. I gravitate to the British brands like mulberry and aspinal now, it feels good to narrow down the collection to things I truly love and serve a purpose in my life….reselling is not easy, and things don’t hold their value as much as anticipated but a couple thousand to invest rather than bags sitting pretty on a shelf never to be used works for me haha!
Wonderful advice! Thank you! I bought my first Louis Vuitton in 1990 and still buying luxury bags with LV being my favorite. Fortunately, after making a few purchase mistakes, my style became my conscience instead of buying the latest trend. The cross body bags and the mini bags are not my style so there’s none in my collection. Your advice on finding your style and following it is the best advice for anyone beginning a luxury collection.
The FOMO is real! So many mistakes we make along the way, but *we* have to make them, it's not as easy to learn from others' mistakes as we might think! 💕
Oh your point about feeling part of the 'inner circle' and feeling special is sooooo true! Especially if you are going through anything difficult in your life at the time so it is easy to go down the rabbit hole by thinking you are special and end up buying because you can. Def the case for me with Hermes!
Brilliant advice! On the power of saying no: as an Executive Coach, some of my clients wanted help saying no. I would remind them that saying no to one thing meant saying yes to something else. And then asked: by saying no to X, what are you saying yes to? It often lead to a breakthrough moment. I use this on myself when I'm itching to buy that next bag.
Fantastic video Amelia. I started buying “luxury” bags about 9 years ago. I purchased Coach, DOONEY and BOURKE, and Michael Kors. For Christmas I got the MJ Tote bag and I recently purchased the double zip pouch from LV. I am a business owner and I can afford pricier pieces but the amount of money these things cost hold me back. Since I tend to be so careful with my money, I have been thinking about my lifestyle a lot. I don’t dress up, I rarely get invited to events where I may want to carry a sequined bag or maybe even an exotic. I love high heels but never wear them. So, I won’t be purchasing a Lady Dior, Fendi First in fur, or a Birkin. However, I tend to love structured tote bags and structured handbags. But then I wouldn’t buy a Pochette Métis or an Odeon because I think they are boring. The struggle is real. 🤦♀️ 😂😂😂
Amelia I love watching your videos and can do relate to going down the rabbit hole but I have realised there will always be another bag and been trying to really enjoy what I already have rather then always focussing on the next bag and what I don’t have ! Also watching the many reviews of bags helps me see the pros and cons of bags and put extra thought into it before I purchase anything !! Love you work and following you 😘
Preach!! ❤ I needed to hear this. New to luxury and doing a lot of buying and selling - taking hits along the way. I also have to be okay with putting bags on a wishlist and enjoying bags that work for my current lifestyle. Im pregnant with my 3rd baby and your midnight impulsive purchase was relatable 😂
Hi Amelia ! Great points . Yes it is important to highlight that owning a number of designer handbags can be stressful at times and expensive to insure them with a specific contract , especially with vintage models .
😂You're so spot on with everything. Literally made all the mistake you have mentioned in the video and that's why I have so many things I wanna get rid of now. So many things sitting on the shelf that I don't ever use and they are so difficult to sell lololol😵
Thank so much for sharing ❤️ I can completely relate to the handbag addiction and getting swept away buying a bag I later regret because it didn’t fit my lifestyle or didn’t pay attention to the details… also feel the regret of selling bags too soon and then either trying to repurchase at a higher price or never seeing that bag again 😣
I think that Chanel graffiti bag was worth getting because it’s so stunning. I suppose if you could’ve got it for less money that would’ve been great, but it’s one of my favourites in your collection.
These are all great points, Im sure it was you that said something in a video maybe a couple of years ago that has stuck with me ! You said something a long the line of we need to buy things for our lifestyle not for the lifestyle we think we have ! That’s so true I always think of that when buying now. I really struggle with hair loss too I may take a look at the dryer ❤
I completely agree you become a target when you have luxury items visible.. now when I go on vacation I take non luxury bags because I get scared thank for the video
😂 it’s like you’ve reached inside my brain, taken many of the thoughts I’ve never expressed openly and just said them. Like moving on to the next trend and feeling like I need to sell bags to keep that momentum going. Or buying heels for special occasions that rarely ever happen. That’s me. Its clearly a wide spread affliction and we are all going through the same things.
Great points! Everyone is always telling you how you have to buy "investment" bags/considering resell value and go for timeless designs in neutral colours. Buy a black quilted caviar leather medium classic flap with gold hardware! Buy a Speedy 25 or an Alma BB in Damier Ebene! Buy a Lady Dior in a neutral colour, buy a YSL LouLou in beige/nude.....but what if these bags bore the hell out of me? 😂
very true. it is very addictive. once you buy your first designer luxury handbag you want to get all the classic ones from each brands. I didn't even have as many non-luxury handbags before as i have the luxury ones now. Sometimes i think to myself 'what am i doing?' but i like having those handbags and those luxury goods. It makes me grateful to God for letting me able to afford them and have them which i never dreamed of having before when i wasn't financially at the same place. important thing is being intentional, not going with impulse purchase and not going with trends. but buying something we can see ourselves using many years in the future and still loving it then because we are spending lot of money on these things.
I agree with so many points here! Personally I don’t feel conscious wearing my bags, certainly when my husband and I go and buy a luxury car, ppl only complements it and say “nice car, congrats!” No one cares how much we spend on that right? No one tells us, you should have bought a …. because is cheaper lol. I will continue to buy, I am just more careful and try to make less costly mistakes 😂.OMG and don’t get me started with how much money I have lost selling new or practically new handbags 😢🙄the overpaying it happened to me when I bought a Birkin 🙄😫
please make a video on how to distinguish if you really like a bag or if you’re just buying into the hype! i’ve been wanting the prada cleo but pinterest and instagram has definitely factored into my decision-making, i’m trying to see if i should go for it
I try to think about it for a few months and if as I can I go and try the bag on, sometimes a couple times, and see how it makes me feel when I wear it. And making sure it is a style that I can use rather than leave on the shelf.
I have just figured out I am a collector, I sort of let the collection take over I will be going through a process of letting go! 🙃 strongly it has been easier to let go of the lux bags more than the contemporary
I’m just 4 minutes into your video and had to pause for a comment. I’m so guilty… I’ve just come to this video from falling down the rabbit hole for a vintage Gucci purchase I’ve been chasing for years. And it wasn’t even “a good deal” (whatever that means anymore!). FOMO , non buyers remorse, it’s all real and addicting it is. OK, onto the video 😂😂😂
I haven't made all those mistakes but I haven't been in game as long either. I've made many of those mistakes though. I've made mistakes even after being warned to not make that mistake! I'm so glad I don't use Instagram. I make a conscious effort to not use that app because I know I'll get caught up in the pretty clothes, pretty bags, pretty people. I get caught up in them enough as it is just on YT. I do wish I knew about better security measures to take safe guarding my bags. Have you done or will you do a video on that? Thank you for the videos. I love your channel.
I think many luxury enthusiasts can relate to some of your points. I certainly did. Great video! Saturday morning coffee and Amelia’s video 👌🏽 I will also have to check out the hair dryer. I always say my daughter literally stole my hair lol
I went to the LV store looking for a small shoulder bag, the SA was nice enough to offer the nano speedy saying it just came in. At the time I didn’t know it was going to be such a popular bag, but I got it for it’s cute factor. I would never sell it. It’s just so cute. ❤
