i think the death of roadshows was my biggest personal disappointment. i'd never felt more connected to the community than when i went to the summer finals in detroit and met a bunch of people near me passionate about the same sport i was, and it's sad to think they just might not keep doing that. if the LTA doesn't put in a good effort to build up something new and interesting, and most importantly accessible to fans that don't live in california specifically, then i think they might soon fall into the OWL pitfall of esports relevance.
Gonna be honest I keep forgetting the league even exists. As someone who followed for 8+ years, watched weekly, listened at work when I could and watched extra content like yours... The league just has no pull for me anymore. Maybe it started with the poor international performances - maybe it was almost all the talking heads reusing the same handful of narratives every year. Idk. RIP LCS.
This is where I'm at, too. I am a beta player in League. Then got really into watching the early LoL eSports tournaments and loved every minute of the drama. The LCS was a topic I wrote papers on in law school. I watched every online talk show for about 5-6 years. I was as in as you could be. But I've felt nothing for it for about 2+ years now.
@AndyJHahn did your interest beginning to fade coincide with the retirements of Bjergsen and/or doublelift? I think their impact on the league was so outsized that a lot of people felt like LCS had "ended" when Dlift and Bjerg officially called it quits, even if they weren't avid fans of either player directly.
As a 30 year old I'll say losing the LCS brand was like losing a part of my childhood and it really does feel like a slap in the face to the history of the League. It probably hurts me more since I've played and watched for 15 years but it still feels like such a slap in the face.
The announcement of the LTA was the final nail in the coffin for NALoL for me. The tradition of tuning in to lcs for close to a decade was the only thing bringing me back after years of my favorite teams, players, and broadcast talent leaving the league, boring metas with stupidly overpowered Champs, and Riot seemingly throwing the entire region to the wolves to prioritize LCK and LPL. I've unfollowed all LTA accounts on all social media and have no plans to give them my viewership. Riot has made it abundantly clear that they do not give a single shit about North American fans or our pro-players, and I don't intend to stick around and give them the viewer metrics anymore. Riot deserves every bit of the consequences that come from this.
I still can’t believe they decided to kill off the LCS. It was THE brand for LOLEsports - especially for older fans trying to understand wtf LTA stands for.
Lmao, calling a washed out league like that the brand of LOLEsports is some really big coping mechanism my guy. Yeah, it has its part in the history of league, but in no way is the most important, prestigious or historical region. I might be that important in your own bubble but in no way it is non NA regions. Plus, you know that the league was dying right? Even weaker leagues had more viewers and generated more revenue for riot than the LCS.

TL and C9 have to carry our talent pools. If they let their tier 2 teams go, the region is done. There will be no more talent to replace the ones aging out

Single round robin is silly, but Bo3 is way more entertaining to me than Bo1. So it definitely isn’t the best competitive integrity, but was more entertaining than Bo1 imo.
I don’t know if I can pin it to one thing, but 2024 was definitely my last year of caring about the LCS or whatever it’s called now. I’ve unsubbed and unfollowed all leagues creators or pros.
