      I noticed that too and when I was looking for a car it wasn’t a must for me that it was Ford powered, but I do think it’s cool to be all steel with Ford driveline

      I'd much rather have that 302. It's purely a classic engine and very expensive to get. 5.3L Chevy would destroy the history of this car. It's a Ford classic!

    • @fishyfool
      @fishyfool 4 роки тому

      @Dave Micolichek I understand LS's, but they are not appropriate in everything.
      Small block chevys are cheap too but I wouldn't put one in a '66 fastback mustang.
      Honda K series swaps are en vogue too but who the hell wants one in a model t?

    Dang Big D that's a really clean Ford! I like this car a lot- it's really easy to go overboard and decide in your head that you have to have a fuel-injected big block, coilovers, Wilwood giant dic brakes, etc, etc, but this build is very restrained. I think the choice of parts, engine, suspension, paint, really everything makes sense for this car. What's really important is that YOU like it. It doesn't matter what I think or anyone else. Regardless, I like this Ford a whole lot and I'm not normally a big Ford guy. Very nice car, Big D.

    @Willison use 87-93 Mustang 5.0 shorty headers. Very cost effective and easy to source. AND the best part, they come with a ball-socket style flange so leaks are near impossible

    Speedway has a ton of hot rod parts. Also consider swapping in a hydro boost brake system and disc brake rear . Also Vintage Air has a great product. Just added one to an old Ford pick up.

    • @wal

      I need to research the brake option as these manual brakes work but you really have to plan your stop!

    • @timothythompson3029
      @timothythompson3029 4 роки тому

      I got my hydro boost off a Chevy Astro van out of a junk yard. Your going to need a power steering pump too. For the rear disk look at Crown Vic or some Mustangs. But it depends on which rear end is in the car now. If you have a Ford 8 or 9 inch it will be pretty easy. But you may just need a bigger master cylinder. If the original builder used a 4 drum master cylinder then added the front disc you won't have enough fluid volume.

  • @juicedcoupe
    @juicedcoupe 4 роки тому +2

    Whatever you choose for exhaust, be sure to use some type of crossover. I personally prefer the sound of a H pipe, more of a rumble and less raspy than a X pipe.
    I'd use a large, straight core muffler, like a Magniflow. Flowmaster and other chambered mufflers have horrible drone.
    I'd also have the tailpipes routed behind the car. The longer pipes smooth out the sound. It will also get the fumes away from the passenger compartment.

    Don't use the LED conversion bulbs. Halogen will actually work better because the optics are designed for light that comes from a filament shaped source. Get some LED foglights and maybe some LED driving lights instead.

    hey big D, i use this rust neutralizer at work, its a green liquid, it converts the oxide layer of rusting steel so that it stops rusting and then protects the metal. it can be painted directly after its dry with primer. You can spray it on with a spray bottle and you dont have to do anything after if you dont have time. Get some rust neutralizer and protect your baby. I see under the rear seat could use a little spray at least and then hit it with a rattle can.

    Many cutting edge factory features, cost $17,000 in '79, about 3x the cost of a Caprice Classic. Should have kept it.

With a 455 bored out to 500 nitrous oxide, hurts floor shifter. 750 hp work was done by Motion Performance in Baldwin Long Island before EPA closed him down. I think he is now in business in Florida. Car also has headers and dual MagnaFlow mufflers. Loud as hell when you nail it.

    Been in the hot rod/street rod world since I was 5. Hot/street rod are interchangeable with most people. Hot rod is a older term from jalopys in the ‘50’s. Street rod came from the 70/80’s when the scene got going strong.
    Mustang II suspension is a common swap and will give you rack/pinion steering along with a much better ride. Go with a aftermarket steering column and then you will have all controls like wiper and turn signal. Some have the headlights integrated as well. Speedway Motors is your friend. Sounds like you got a leak at the manifold as well. Sanderson makes nice headers!

    Exhaust for a early 79-93 302 the best sound is flowmaster 40's not the new ones but the older ones with less interior baffles. I second the factory 87-93 shorty headers. They're cheap and easy to get. My 83 mustang had those headers with an h piped and dual flowmaster 40's. It was a sweet sounding setup.

    Probably have to use a shorty header some that tuck in a full length wouldnt fit unless custime made also get an x pipe done to blend the exhaust pulses will keep it quieter as you wamt this to be your street cruiser. Here's some ideas of my own for your cruiser power steering power brakes and install holly's fuel injection system for better drivability and maybe vintage air for A/C the car is really cool lots of personality and is a good platform to make your own and improve

    For headers I wouldn't cheap out buy ceramic coated headers first it's worth it I had 2 sets of headers rust with the parts store header paint. The only ones that would fit in a 37 Ford with a 302 swap would be a set of block hugger's, full length if you could find headers for unmodified suspension.

    1937 FORD STREET ROD Patriot Tight Tuck Headers H8427 these are 185.00. Might have to look arround to see what you want as for headers.

    Nice job on the ride! I love to see some modern updates engine headlights etc. I have an 86 Ford f150 302 fi the sound of the motor is just as important as important to me as the sound of my system do me a favor and check out the headman shorty headers and cherry bomb pro 2.5 or 3 inch muffler they sound beautiful and have a sturdy build quality. If you want a little quieter ride check out the cherry bomb vortex. I run the pro series muffler on my 66 Chevrolet chevelle sbc 400 and the vortex on my 86 f150 302 and my 97 Ford mustang 3.8. Anyway hope to see more good work from you so keep it up 🙈🙊🙉 🤙.

    Nice solid real steel rod you got there brother, everything always needs some work after almost 80 lol...good lord they really did some good work in certain parts and then allowed a blond guy to modify the rear deck but that can be fixed no big deal there meant to be driven you got it right there...I hate seeing trailer queens I understand there thoughts behind it but I agree to disagree with those guys I build em with the intention to put rubber to the road

    Resto mods are usually 60's-70's "muscle cars" with modern amenities. A lot of them weren't full frame cars so not really swapping body's to newer frames. Whatever headers you decide to go with don't cheap out because you'll regret it.

    • @wal

      Sanderson headers come highly recommended, do you know of these? www.sandersonheaders.com/sanderson-ff5-small-block-ford-221-302-header-set.html?category_id=33

      @@wal It's not a company that I've personally used but they've been around longer than I have. Usually if an aftermarket part manufacturer last that long they make a good product. The specs on the headers in the link are better than a lot of other brands. But like I said I've never used them so I couldn't really give a recommendation either way.

    I absolutely love the 1937 Fordor . And I really like yours , even more so that it has a Ford V8 rather than the usual ( and dumb ) SBC swap. Nothing kills a car more for me than when they swap in a modern engine and drivetrain anddont stay with the original manufacturer when possible .

    Custom titanium headers. Check out PFI speed to see what they do. They will be slick, and nicer looking than some off the shelf number. (There are a lot of fabricators that can cut, bend and tig)

    The 79-93 shorty headers mite it all depends how far your motor is sitting back I am putting a 91 5.0 in my 37 and have as far forward as it can go and the exhaust will just clear the stock X member and brake pedal assembly and steering , do you still have the trip setup?

    Nice ride D cool car, I think you did good it's actually in nice shape that's alot of years for fingers to be fittlin with stuff so I'd say it survived well! Prob shorty headers b easiest, hedman are reasonable and hold up pretty good but get ceramic jet coated or you'll just have rusty headers in no time and ceramic keeps under hood heat down some, I ran flowmasters 40s for years n i hit my fortys it got to loud, a set of good turbos sound nice I run cheap cherry bomb turbos and sound sweet on built-up 350 on dual 3" exhaust. Walker/Dynomax Super Turbos are prob one best turbo mufflers on market . Is that an old Chrysler steering wheel??

    • @wal
      @wal  4 роки тому

      The Steering wheel is Caddy! Very odd as the builder put Ford logos everywhere. Thanks for the tips 👍
