One of the most brutal deaths, sad next to newsom/Christian, Regina Walters, Leslie Mahaffy, that old couple that got buried alive, gayle spencer, I don’t know why but I just always remember the names of victims more then killers, that’s how it should be
Can’t believe they went out to sea with 2 strange men they were already suspicious with. Come on ! I wish I never saw this one now I can’t stop thinking about it.
This is one of the most horrible murders I’ve ever heard of. The fact that they were alive and got thrown overboard handcuffed to an anchor so they drowned. Ugh heartbreaking. They just wanted to sell the boat to be near their grandkids.
Yep, took much less time to feel for these folks as they were so consistently loving and genuine in the video documentations :) How lucky that little grand baby was too be. Meanwhile, here's to hoping a glass bottomed dingy is moored at a dock towing a fried little worm behind awaiting a shoeless "princess". Please, Lord, forgive me.
@Joe Exotic I'm not trying to justify his action he got fully what he deserved, but becoming a good person after you had a rough childhood makes u really unique and strong person which not everyone is able to do that. All I'm saying is that more people could comment about the bad parents part too because that's the root of this evil because if you are not gonna guide your child in the right path someone in the street will guide them for you so people should be aware of how important parenting affects a child's success in life otherwise we gain nothing from this video if all we do is comment hate on crime that involved violence/death.

The video of Tom saying "I'm going to play some more", and then the cut to him swimming with the dolphin .... that actually made me smile. Positively ghoulish what the Hawks suffered. Such genuinely happy people deserved better.
Smart enough to do that, sure.. but not smart enough to refuse the sea trial skylar and his suspicious thugs wanted to do. Who in their right mind would do that?
I remember watching this in a documentary and hearing how just as they were about to die his wife was sobbing and her husband was calming her down by repeatedly telling her “I love you, it’s okay I love you.” He had known for a while that were gonna die so he was trying calm his wife. Broke my heart!
I can't imagine the raging fear and panic going trough their heads when they were getting handcuffed to an anchor - in the middle of sea, im physically ill and i feel so sorry for them
I feel so bad for them. I was in the navy and we used to go on the smoke deck at night and look out like bro just imagine if u were out there and the ship was just going further away. That shit is terrifying to think about.
I sat in silence for at least 10 minutes after the video ended. Been watching crime videos for 10 years or more and this one was one of the most disturbing cases I ever heard of, oh my god
@@EMMANUELIWUOHA. it's quite likely that the reason Olivia watched this vid was because she has a connection to the couple. It's unlikely she made it up for attention as she's not the focus of her comment. You may be better off using your brain before your fingers.
What a despicable group of people to do this to a defenseless older couple. If there is a brutal way to die, that is it. Tying someone to an anchor and dropping them in the ocean may be the most cruelest way I’ve ever heard in my life to kill someone. IMO they all deserve the death penalty immediately.
@@rsmith8434 lol, they were defenseless. They were killed weren’t they? That’s defenseless. One was almost 50 and the other was almost 60, That’s an older couple. I’m really not sure what I said that was so off kilter?
Man i've watched a lot of your vids, but this one hits hard, something about them working hard to live the life they wanted just for it to be taken by people who aren't worth the oxygen they were breathing.
Stealing is one thing, the part that gets me is how they stood on that boat and watched them sink, no doubt screaming and begging for their lives. Sociopathic narcissists - if that’s a thing...
I know, they seemed like such kick ass cool parents/grandparents/ neighbors and now we’ve lost them and are stuck with supporting 4 living parasites and maybe even the gender reassignment surgery for the ringleader. Unbelievable
Remember this story. It's just devastating. They didn't deserve that. Is good they found the perpetrators, but they will never get back what they really earned 😔
This story physically hurts my heart every time I see a video on it. Tom and Jackie seemed like such a wonderful couple. For them to be selling their boat to move back so they could be closer to their new grandchild only for this to happen.
1 missing detail here. The notary public only fessed up AFTER she was caught in a lie. Her description of Jackie matched her driver's license photo.... Jackie had cut & dyed her hair since that photo was taken years prior.
It made me nauseous. First time a youtube vid has done that. I feel for their families the ungetoverableness unlivablewith knowledge, the shockwaves to many many people. Reason.....GREED. (I made 2 words up but felt it necessary in this case)
I agree. I have read about many murder cases and this one really haunts me. So horrible that these lively people died in a worst nightmare scenario. I actually felt physically ill after this one.
The part where the detective said “ Tom was stroking jackies hand to try & put her at ease” really hurt my heart man 🥺 they sounded like such a nice couple enjoying their early retirement & these animals tossed them overboard like trash 😭 this is just a horrid story it must of been horrific! Rip guys ❤️
Yea, in Tom & Jackie's home movies you could just feel the love they had for each other. When Tom was talking about seeing Jackie after 2 weeks & said he couldn't wait to see her. When Jackie came back after the two weeks & came out saying hi honey & it's so nice to be home. It definitely makes the whole thing more tragic when you see that kind of love. 🥺
Tom and Jackie were good people, you can see in their videos. They were amazing parents and doting grandparents. These monsters killed them in an horrific way...this one really made my heart heavy. RIP together 💔
I do not normally support the death penalty but there are certain cases, like this one, when I have no sympathy and feel it is deserved. Bundy was another one because he was not only evil but he was an escape artist.
Not in the good old USA. no we house them, let them go out on day trips, take care of them medically, feed them and in a lot of cases offer them free college. What system.
This one was hard to get through, man. They both seemed like genuinely good people, the one clip where he talks about shaving and her coming home, him being a single dad before marrying her, checking on the status of their grandchild every couple of days. Just hearing his voice said kindness. Freaking heartbreaking.
Jackie seems like the mom of one of your friends who you feel like is your second mom. I don’t know why, but she just seems so welcoming and warm... as well as her Tom. I just feel like they were the kind of people you could have fun with, but also be open with. The world lost two wonderful people when we lost Tom and Jackie.
I know why this case hits harder than a lot of others, because it shows true love. Hear me out, even on this channel there are stories about husband killing wife, wife killing husband, children killing parents and parents killing kids, but this two victims were loyal to each other till the end, they were good people that earned what they had and wanted to settle down for grandchildren. It is really sad.
this story is the first story you covered that actually made me cry my eyes out, so so so sad they just got retired and were leaving their happy place to settle down and be grandparents, mrs hawkes never got to be a parent and for the first time she was holding a new born in her hand that was going to call her grandma. they did not deserve to die this way :( i hope they can rest in peace now that the coward is rotting in jail
Yeah, what a drawn out and scary death. A lot of murders are sort of spur of the moment, moment of anger type things, maybe the killer even immediately regrets it after, animilistic lack of control type killings. Like a wolf giving in to its animal instincts. Or someone intoxicated or manic in some way, or on the other end - depressed. Still murder. Often brutal. But usually quick. And the killer in such cases can feel, that's even part of their problem some times, unable to control how they react to their anger, as an example. But this case shows how a cold calculated and planned killing can be even scarier. These killers didn't murder because they gave in to strong emotions. They had no emotions. No concern. No empathy. Planned out in advance, carried out w/out regret or agitation or hesitation. All while imitating (with limited success) normal people w/normal emotions to try and get their victims out there on the boat. It would be an insult to wolves to compare this group to wolves. Not a case of instincts gone wrong, or someone going feral, but more like people w/out a soul at all. I feel for the victims.
@@SmegInThePants I also feel for the murderer's children, as a friend of mine, well... she went to the public library microfiche to learn about her dad...
@@SmegInThePants has very well written how so many of us feel about this horrific crime. Like others, I cried and am overwhelmed with raw emotion. How, what happened to these demons to make them so horrible? There is really no answer, I know.

This is one case that really sticks with me. They seemed like such wholesome people and were so happy to spend time with their grandson and live the rest of their lives. Heartbreaking what happened to them
Thank you for this episode. Mr Hawks was my probation officer in the 90's. He was a Martial Artist of the black degree and had many awards posted on his walls. Wow. Amazing how such tough dudes go down like this... Part of me has to wonder why on earth he'd take his wife out on a boat with three random ass dudes like that when he already knew they felt shady? I'm not victim blaming just wondering what went through his mind, if he was that desperate to sell? Those were some hard years economically speaking they were going into there, 2005... :(
This is definitely one of the most, if not the most, heart breaking true crime cases I’ve seen. Rest in Love to the Hawks. They seemed like the best people
I've following this for many years. How diabolical, heartless of these evil bastards and bitch. Can you imagine his wife saying no to a deal that would have given her immunity if she testified for the prosecution against the P.O.S. she was married to? And by not doing that she gets life with no parole.
Yeah, the Hawks died helplessly watching each other drown, their bodies inevitably consumed by whatever innocent aquatic life happened to come by. And why? All because some psychotic freak and *his* cronies disagreed with biology. Now Tom's sons are robbed of people who appeared to be a great dad and a a great stepmom and would have been great grandparents, plus Jennifer's kids get to grow up knowing their mother/parents were involved in this.
@@PaleHorseShabuShabu they were tied to an anchor and dumped into the deepest part of the ocean. I think their internal organs “exploded” before they drowned. That anchor probably took them down faster than drowning and the body can only survive so far before the pressure kills you alone. This was a horrific way to die. I wouldn’t wish it on Nancy Pelosi and I REALLY don’t like her.
Anyone who has dealt with notaries knows that it's impossible for a notary to pass documents like that without the presence of the owners, it would be just dumb because the owners would eventually clame their property, (beware! notaries have scammed people but when they do they absolutely know the consequences, so they escape or something) this notary knew they were going to murder them and the documents they forced them to sign were prepared by her IN ADVANCE! she should have been sentenced to life in prison, her collaboration in this crime was necessary for these criminals to execute their plot. Does anyone know if she was charged?
It's crazy how I've heard about this case but the program I watched about it didn't do nearly as good of a job as you. You make a better documentary than big TV programs.
Well that could be for a couple of reasons, big TV channels often have to get the rights to names and footage because they air it locally or internationally and are on a ratings system which ultimately brings them revenue regardless. With tv stations there are alot of protocols to go through also tv networks have time constraints where they only have a certain amount of tv time. With UA-cam sure you can get copyright claimed but for the most part it's aired on a free website, sure the uploader may be getting paid but ads and sponsors take care of the legalities and make sure it's good to go. Also on UA-cam he has the ability to cover a lot more of the story because he is not confined to the same time constraints as a tv network is.
I'm crying for Tom and Jackie. They missed out on their grandchildren's lives that they were so looking forward to be a part of. All cut too short because of these evil people.
They looked like they were living the dream, I smiled cause they were obviously SO happy and true happiness is such a beautiful thing and rare thing. It looked like they had it and it was stolen from them. All they wanted was to sell the boat so they could be there to see their grandbaby grow up. They would have cherished that child and that child would have cherished them. It's truly sad that their grandchildren will never meet them and learn from and how much they clearly loved life. I want to love like like they loved it.
Literally made my eyes teary seeing them so damn happy knowing what was most likely coming... I think this is only the 2nd video of his I’ve actually cried during... so unbelievably sad...
Confessing to money laundering to distract from a possible murder charge is quality idiocy. This one is particularly sad given you can see just how much Tom and Jackie loved each other through their own vids.

There a tv show that went in depth on this case and there were a few details that I remembered. Jackie Hawks screamed at Skylar "how could u do this, u showed us your baby" or somthing like that. She realized that the wife and kid were a trick. Also, Skylar came off way more cynical, he made some comments as he threw the anchor or somthing and it was sickening, cant remember what it was exactly but he was pissed about how hard the guy kicked him, think he kicked his nuts maybe. Terrible death for those 2, so sad
Sir Vict0r the only reason i’m against the death penalty is because people have been wrongly accused, convicted, and killed. i’m not one to stand for innocent people dying

Out of all the stories that I've heard of in my life this one really sticks with me.These were really good people and I know they are in heaven looking down on us.Then they meet this parasite and they are never seen again. The way he kills them and goes on about his life like nothing ever happened pisses me off so bad. I hope hes raped every day in prison.
Legally, Skylar is no longer a man, as he is being housed in a women's facility. She may be a man with long hair and doesnt want a meat tube, but they treat her as a woman. Thats California... She (?) also wont be raped, seeing she is on death row. Death row inmates are treated much differently than lifers. They live in solitude a minimum of 23 hours a day. They never see another inmate. I know in Ohio, there is one woman on death row, and when they move her around the prison (ORW at Marysville), they lock the entire prison down, meaning no other inmates can leave their cells/bunks.
Of all the films you've made, and I've watched most of them, this one bites deepest in terms of horror. It's just so cold blooded in terms of Skyler's cool deliberation. I feel so much for the Hawks' family.

I don't think its ridiculous at all. I sometimes think that way too. You want to help, or someone to have helped. Seeing their cute home videos about their time on the boat just hurts.

Christian something who tied pillowcases with rocks in them to his children's legs and dropped them alive into the cold Pacific near Coos Bay in Oregon is also one of the horrific incidents of premature burial by sea.
@@spicywater9301 yeah they would get eaten. The ocean is a big big big empty place. bigger than any land and sky. Things that find food few and far between down there eat it up. I remember the first time I heard about this case. The way they died was *HORRIFIC*!! Just imagining those two, bound together, watching helplessly as the line on the anchor got shorter and shorter before they were ripped overboard to slowly and agonizingly drown. That's probably one of the worst possible ways to die. The only, well, not "good thing" but maybe "not absolutely disgusting" part of this whole situation is that they were together, and they are still together wherever they are. It sounds like they loved each other very much, so it's somewhat comforting to know that they weren't alone and they weren't separated in the end. This is a really, really heartbreaking case. Yeah, there was something about this story that gutted me. Maybe because I hadn't heard it before. Idk, but something. Like, damn, they just wanted to spend time with their grand babies.
How can their story not get to you? They suffered a horrible death and the only crime they committed was trusting the wrong people to sell their boat to. But at least their story lives on.
You should watch a few more. At least those people were given the chance to lead a reasonably full life. On the other hand, it's probably best if you stop watching, right now...
This is insane. I worked with the “whistleblower”, Alonso Machain’s father (Juan Machain) at the time this all happened. His dad was a realtor in Ontario CA at the time. He would come into work with updates and was so distraught about it. Truly the nicest man you’d ever met. I still can’t believe it.
This has to be the saddest story of the hundreds of videos I've watched so far! Like....... it's hard to even process and describe the pain I felt watching this. This couple was living the dream that many of us wish to live in retirement. They were happy, worked hard, earned their lifestyle, loved their children and even became grandparents. Tom was a real stand up guy that raised him boys by himself. A true inspiration in my eyes. All they wanted to do was sell their yacht and live the rest of their lives taking care of their grandchild. And now...... they will never see their family again or even be brought home because of this maniac! Once I heard that they were tied to an anchor that was tossed into the ocean I cringed. That is by far one of the most horrible ways to go. It's truly heartbreaking because no one knows how deep the ocean actually is, but it's so deep that the bodies couldn't ever be recovered. All 3 of the guys should have been tied to an achor and tossed into the ocean as well; as their death penalty, so that they can experience the horror that they put this couple through for no reason! I'm sorry but a lethal injection isn't enough. To be peacefully put to sleep after something like this isn't enough!
The idiocy of some criminals amazes me sometimes. How was that plan ever going to work, and how do 4 people end up saying 'yes', as if it's a good idea. To start with you have no cash to buy a boat, the sellers are missing and you are in a bank trying to draw money out of the sellers bank account.
well to be fair they might have got away with it had they not tried to withdraw money, or if gave their car to alfonso, or if the notary girl didnt come forward.

What a despicable group of people to do this to a defenseless older couple. If there is a brutal way to die, that is it. Yea, in Tom & Jackie's home movies you could just feel the love they had for each other. When Tom was talking about seeing Jackie after 2 weeks & said he couldn't wait to see her. It is really sad.
this story is the first story you covered that actually made me cry my eyes out, so so so sad they just got retired and were leaving their happy place to settle down and be grandparents, mrs hawkes never got to be a parent and for the first time she was holding a new born in her hand that was going to call her grandma. they did not deserve to die this way :( i hope they can rest in peace now that the coward is rotting in jail
iSAFAE I cried as well.

This has to be the most disturbing “That Chapter” I have watched. Poor people.

Mike and That Chapter really do a thorough job with their videos.
Really tho 🖤
This X 1000. You got a talent Mike
But mainly it's because Mike is a better journalist than the ones who aired it previous
This was a hard hitter, especially to learn how they died.

Wow, this is heartbreaking. They were walking away from a lavish retirement together to be grandparents. That baby got robbed of two amazing grandparents.
I've gone through so many cases, and this one stung a little bit.
These were good people, and had a really happy life.
All they wanted was to get closer to their family.
You don’t understand tho that girl skylar was goin thru a lot, sure it sucks those ppl died but sklar was just trying to better her life was all
@@joey662 You're trying to justify his actions?
I understand he wanted to make things better for himself but killing people in cold blood is not the way to go about it.
You definitely aren't seeing something right here, pal.
@@joey662 bro wtf you talking about
Be weary of any former military person too willing to share how many confirmed kills they have under their belt
I’ve always thought the same, it’s not an experience decent humans like to recall.
@@ilovegreattits Agreed, because then it becomes very... alarming... if they say it too much or too casually. You'd assume that they would avoid speaking about it as much as they could.
Coming from someone whos "been there and done that" ignore anyone telling that sort of stuff to you period....I avoid talking about it like the plague
It took me decades to learn about my grandfather's time as a Feild Surgone during WWII. It worth the wait, but only to learn why he felt the way he did, as it included why they sorted casualties into three categories, those we can save, those we can't save, and those we shouldn't save*. [and worse]
*what happens when a young man sets off the mine he was disarming in his own face...
@@seannoble8948 The only person I know who talks about that does so because he is deeply traumatized and suffers from ptsd. He is torn between the good times he had with his fellow soldiers and the bad things he had to see and do.
This is an old case but I still find it hard to believe how such a depraved and selfish act was committed on two such lovely people. The loss their family endured was tragic to say the least.
This one was disturbing. I wonder how many bodies are tied to anchors and such at the bottom of the oceans from throughout history.
Most bodies would probably be eaten
@Yute Hube Haha
Christian something who tied pillowcases with rocks in them to his children's legs and dropped them alive into the cold Pacific near Coos Bay in Oregon is also one of the horrific incidents of premature burial by sea.
@Doris his name is Christian Longo, look him up.
@@spicywater9301 yeah they would get eaten. The ocean is a big big big empty place. bigger than any land and sky. Things that find food few and far between down there eat it up. Like for example you could be a fish and there could be NOTHING around you for 70 miles in every direction not even a crab not even a worm. That's how big the ocean is. It's hard to imagine
The Hawks did not deserve to die over a freaking boat and some surgery.
Yes, being bound and tied I think is the worse way to die. That's my second fear, with being buried alive my 1st. I have panic attacks at just the thought.
@@snowblo1 same! I have panic attacks thinking about it. Literally my worst fears
It's horrific. He was knocked out, they did say Jackie hit her head on the way so I can only hope it was enough to knock her out also. The hole thing disgust me
They didn't deserve to die at all. For anything. Full stop/Period.
They had a perfect life. The guy was in great shape, looked good, had money, a family, had his soul mate and swam with dolphins for godsake. Sad :(
nuttin 😫💔
Are you kidding me? Those two walked right into that debacle.
† oмnιaмoroυѕ † wow you’re so rude!!!
@@MsTinkerbelle87 And you're a fool dear.
I would've been able to spot the shadiness of this situation from a mile away, many of us could.
It's common instinct, why are human beings so trusting of each other???
@@ChristUponus You are a moron. It is easy to say sitting at the keyboard knowing what happened. People are not psychic just because you are a parole officer. Was he supposed to be suspicious because a guy was black LOL? He would not even be necessary in most cases, all the criminal needed was a gun to achieve the same result.
This story is one of the most disturbing to me. I just don't know how anyone could be that cruel!
This case was SO damn sad. You work your whole life, finally find love late in life, and then get murdered by punks. And, they never got to see the grand baby. Absolutely tragic. (P.S. Alonso has the longest freaking neck I have ever seen in my life.)
They got to see the baby, there is video of him holding the baby.. but he didn't get to watch him grow up which is just as bad
Andrew Scott - thank you for letting me know. I got up to get a drink and missed about one minute, I bet that’s when the video played. God, this was heartbreaking.
They didn't marry late in life
So sad, true.(P.S I’m glad someone mentioned that freaking neck on that evil bastard.)
Were either of them executed, or are they going to get to live for another 20 years through appeals?
This a tragic story, but it also acts as a warning to trust your instincts, there really are diabolical people out there existing as normal everyday people. Although it's rare, it does happen, so never be afraid to trust those instincts, they are there for a reason. Better to take extra precautions than to be sorry.
Absolutely....Trust that ''Inner voice''.
If you feel it in your chest/solar plexus, especially, Listen to it.
I overrode that ''warning'' as a younger person....and could have been spared a lot of anguish had I listened to it.
It doesn't matter about ''offending'' the other person.
We have to protect ourselves.
also a warning..if i ever come to USA first thing out of airport is getting a gun :)
@Checkmate Chess Channel your sentences contradicts themselves. try again
@Checkmate Chess Channel why do i need to present anything? I just said your sentences contradict themselves. the comments are still there so go read. I am a tad liberal (what smart person isn't really?) but idk why that means I'd vote for trump. Or is your trump 2020 supposed to offend me? I voted for Trump over Hillary. But he's fucking up now. So no more of that. But Biden isn't really a good alternative. What's your vote? Kanye?
@Checkmate Chess Channel you really don't read anything do you? I just said I oppose biden. Reading comprehension skills need work my man, I wasn't going to reply but that was too classic.

Mike, you're the best! I did cry in this one. This case is just horrific to me.
This case is one of the most upsetting cases I've ever heard. Tom and Jackie seemed like such wonderful people who had so much love for each other and their family - hearing how much suffering they would have felt in their last moments, but how they both still tried to comfort each other in the midst of the horror, completely breaks my heart. RIP.
Rest in peace, Tom and Jackie Hawks. 😞
I watch these videos because although I absolutely sympathize with the victims, I don’t let it get to my head... never.
This one did.
Same.... this one was so so sad 😞
I feel you, this case is to me the very worst one. :(
Ikr, really cool people.
Sad video. Things like this make it difficult to trust people
This is the saddest one I’ve seen of yours. I’m actually crying a little right now. I was having trouble even finishing this episode.
It's certainly up there with the Lululemon episode 😕
Can kinda relate, but then I have to warn you to not go over the transcripts of P. Bernardo's case. That shit is haunting.
You should watch a few more. At least those people were given the chance to lead a reasonably full life. On the other hand, it's probably best if you stop watching, right now...
I’ve watched hundreds of true crime stories and never had a story affect me like this one. One of the saddest things I’ve ever heard about.
@@deaconstjohn4842 I will always regret looking at those transcripts.
These two looked like the wholesome loving family. Sad that those 4 waste of humans came into their lives
Alonso looks like he was put together by Dr Frankenstein.
Dude's part ostrich! 👀

This is one of the most disturbing cases I’ve seen on TC. God bless the Hawks.
Well, if they were smart criminals, they would have gone into politics. *ba-dum-dum-tiss*
well to be fair they might have got away with it had they not tried to withdraw money, or if gave their car to alfonso, or if the notary girl didnt come forward.
