One day soon I feel this will change. The more our workforce becomes increasingly automated, art, music, science, consciousness and love will shift into the foreground of humanity. As science and technology free people more, they will have an abundance of time for the joy and the liberating experiences that come with the freedom of artistic self expression.

"As science and technology free people more"
That will occur ONLY if BILLIONS more people GO INTO science & technology to make our lives easier & fairer & better. Only stupid morons who do not understand logic just take for granted that magically science & technology will advance & make our lives better, on their own.

The Ultimate Reductionist your comment made me question on how your brain works I have no problems regarding freedom of speech or opinions, but your opinion tends to offend musicians like me. Opinion should be "I don't like it so meh not I don't like it and I should post hate comments."

I feel sorry for anyone who has parents who don't agree with their child's hopes and dreams, if you're parent doesn't agree.. Don't listen!

Music is part of our life people who are clearly trying hard to become "boring" not to insult someone, but music saved me from depression no need to take risky anti depressants some people are designed to entertain their fellow humans while others tries to make this world a more convenient place to live, so people who has grudge against music to shut up it is clearly one's decision.
I love biology as much as I love playing the piano I wanna be a musician though. The thing is I appreciate science even though I'm musically inclined there's no need to hate on things that you're not good on or thinking that it has no contribution towards the living of humans.

the thing is, music is commonly associated with drugs, especially the kind of music i play, which is rock n roll. sure, there's drugs. sure, the phrase "sex, drugs and rock n roll" is true. but drugs are not just in music. i mean there's janitors that do drugs, teachers, lawyers, doctors, architects, businessmen... has anyone here watched the wolf of wall street? it's all based on a true story, just because someone wears a suit doesn't mean they don't rack up lines of coke. if any parent out there says "oh i don't want my kid to play music because of drugs", then don't let your kid have ANY job, because drugs are in every industry and at the end of the day, it's your choice as to whether you do drugs or not. and really, if you're so anti-drugs, then throw out all your albums, art, movies, oh, and alcohol. don't criticise someone for smoking weed when after a long day of work, you go home and pour yourself a big glass of vodka and take some paracetamol for your headache.
one other thing in this video that made me think, is how susan was asking 'why are people so gravitated to organised noise'.. well, because they connect to it. because they can relate to it, or see a way of expressing themselves without having to talk. trust me, a guitar solo can say alot about how someone is feeling.

I almost fail this semester at Maths yet I don’t care. I focus only on singing, piano lessons, song writing, marketing and branding inspiration and searching inspiration from other successful singers

I have had a successful career in music now for more than 25 yrs.I have a very decent income and I love my work....It is possible (3340 steve). A lot of the equation also has to do with: talent, intelligence, the quality of one's training & one's work-ethic. There really is a lot more to the "complete equation," than you might imagine.

I personaly feel sorry for the people who have this mindset. Sound and music is not just a 'thing' it is an artform, a life, not something to be dissed! Music is not to be underestimated. I play drums and trumpet and they are the best noises ,personaly, you can hear! Music makes people, it does NOT break them. No matter what happens, if anyone wants to do music then they should!

A lot of Asian parents get their kids into playing music as part of their academic curriculum (Classical music especially). It has been proven that students can enhance their intelligence (possibly increase IQ) when they learn to play an instrument and persevere. Out of all the students who learned to play music, only a small fraction will consider a career in music. Unlike doctors, scientists, engineers & accountants who are considered professionals who would benefit society, musicians are not as needed. The ones who wanted to become a "professional" musicians, there are very few openings and the industry is very competitive.

I'm 21 years old. I've been playing the piano since I was 6 years old. My parents have been and still are paying for my lessons but they always said I have to study something else because music will not give me enough money to live. So now I am at my 3rd year in food science uni and I hate my life. I have one dream. I always wanted to play music for people. I remember when I was 7 I played piano at a school theatrical show infront of a full theater with grown ups. I wanted to play so much at this event. I always wanted to play for people. There is nothing in life that fills my heart with joy more than performing. To me the end of a performance is like the end of a very good and touching movie , just because I know that it may be the last time for me..
It is just very hard doing this without any recognition and support from your own family.

My parent’s have long stated that I’m incredibly intelligent whilst pushing for university education. Always attempting to mold me to the visions of normalcy, but I’ve always struggled in school in a conduct manner. Always fighting those who try to control me and coerce me into their ways of thinking and living. I’ve long had a burning passion for all forms of art/culture all over the world, wether that be art, music, traditions, religions, languages, or the history of it all.
My parents have never supported my passionate journey’s that don’t lead to a traditional schooling or military path, it’s very frustrating because they never seem to be impressed/proud with how I improve, I have to instill my own self-gratification and thus I fear releasing music I’ve actually fully produced and sound engineered with countless hours of work all because I don’t think it’s good enough.
I want to bring art that moves people, changes lives, brings emotions out from inside of you; not money, nor fame.
To know that I could move someone and change their lives like music and musicians have changed mine would mean the world to me and honestly brings tears just thinking about it...

I understand why parents are edgy about this happening. For instance, say if your a songwriter and trying to chase a dream it's hard to realize when to face realty and give up, I've gone through that over and over again. BUT that will never stop me playing music. I'd say get a proper musical education at uni or whatever ... and you'll be fine. Don't just rely on a talent, you need to network to make music your whole life

My compositions are my kids, every piece is like giving birth with joy, instead of pain. I guess it an aspect of not being able to have children myself, but I have also heard many other musicians and artists refer to their art-form or music as their baby's.

Yes music is addictive for many people but some exist without it. My old boss said he'd listen to military marches occasionally that was it for him. That child may forget the experience and not insist on being a trumpet player the years will tell. I get your point about now addictive music can be and the more innate talent one has the more compulsion may drive them to the profession. Your point leaves out economics and focuses on how powerful the draw of playing music can be. The tragedy for many is that they are so talented that it takes years of lost time before they can realize they can't make a living.

Marc Babin Well,I want to become a pop/R&B singer and I can live without my Math teacher right now. I know how to calculate using while numbers(or however you call them I am not a native English speaker so I don’t know). I know how to calculate a procent.Your point is irrelevant. I can live without Biology teachers or German teacher just as some of you can live without music. With hard work, dedication, passion and marketing intelligence you can make it believe me. The Weeknd,Halsey,Ed Sheeran,Lana del Rey and many more started from nothing.

Music, since it’s sonic, spreads to all its surroundings, so it is the most public of arts. If a violinist starts playing in a park, everybody close to him will be able to enjoy his playing. You can only see the Mona Lisa by going to Louvre, but you can hear Bach or Miles Davis in a Starbucks while ordering your coffee. And because of music’s public nature, the public assumes they own it, like air, free for all, and without giving importance to the fact that music is an intellectual product, created by someone who was able to do what the majority isn’t capable of. It is a matter of perception.

Always my happiest when I'm involved in some musical endeavor. "Music is playing inside of my head - over and over and over again...my friend, there's no end to the music." that's the thing here, all people want their kids to be doctors , engineers and lawyers but no one cares about what they want or about art , i mean I really feel regretful for wasting years of my life studying things that won't practically help me in any possible way in my daily life for some marks to keep passing on to the next level , I could have become a master in my instrument with all that wasted time , thanks to the internet , it offers lots of musical knowledge that schools here don't even bother to consider seriously ,the system is very industrial doesn't offer any useful information ,it kills creativity and passion .

Love that calming voice. I could listen to this unwinding for the evening. Ummmmmmm though I would have to say I was born up in a musical family, and raised up with musicians. My family and friends were all musicians. Growing up my folks encouraged me and wanted me to yep bee a musician, and guess what. I am a pianist for a living. That is my full time work. Yes. I have to agree that most musicians have a day job but not this guy. I am self employed and have my own business playing piano. I thank my folks for the musical influence and telling me “you are gonna bee a musician.” They were darn right, but the funny thing is I was the pianist of the family. Everyone else played other instruemtns or sang. With the exception of some friends who played piano. I was brought up with dissapline and hard work at the keys. I do nothing but play piano. I would not change that for anything.

We have a nighty routine. I play my guitar, he sings, then he bangs around on piano, then flails on ukulele, then plays around melodically as a 5 yr old can on piano. Then he bangs around on the djembe drum. And if its not to late i plug in his electric guitar and let him use the slide. If u could send u videos i would. The kid loves music. He knows more musicians than most adults. And i dont mean soul selling pop artist i mean musicians. Im an open minded parent. Ill let m do and participate in amy sport he wants, or doesnt want. I will however encourage and push lightly ha into music. He can play 1 or 20 instruments but he will play at least 1. Anything he wants! Thanks for the encouraging and kind words! Cheers from lincoln ne!!

Its Christmas, and well, we don't even have our tree up or nothing. The last thing I expected was my parents coming towards me and talking to me about getting good grades. I´ve been accepted in two conservatoires, not the best but I'm still very satisfied with myself and my achievement. Then there are my parents, they are not happy about me going to study music and not even happy for me for being accepted. To be honest, they still worry more about my academic grades than my musical practice and I kind of feel rejected in a way. Maybe this video can help some parents, or not but please, if you're a parent watching this video, accept how your kid is, accept what they want to do. I understand that maybe you want your kid to be a doctor or whatever good-paying job is. But in the end, I believe that doing something that you really like is really the way to live, even though it doesn't get you a lot of money. If you're a parent, please, understand that being a musician is not a simple thing or "boring". It requires a very big amount of effort and dedication. So please, be proud of your kid if they are going to dedicate their life in music.
I'm 17 years old, and yes, I may be childish or unwise by being biased for music. But well, this is just what I think and what I feel when my parents just don't agree with me when I really want to dedicate myself into music.
Thankyou for reading and Happy Christmas

They told me to sin g Justin Bieber’s “Baby” so I did and blew my class mates away. I’m 13 right now.I just haven’t had the motivation or courage to tell my parents. Don’t dissuade your kids to do what they want. Just come up a good B plan. You don’t have to be an attorney or a physician. Perhaps learn a trade or skill like plumbing or web development. If you go to school for music you can supplement your degree with technical, business, and/or math related courses via minors, certifications, or licenses and get a job.

I think that anyone who wants to be a musician should do it. BUT, they should ALSO have a trade or education in something else that they can fall back on. That’s just simple wisdom.

So many musical conservatory international students whose come from China are impossible to be world famous musician. Now to be piano teacher in Chinese musical conservatory very competative and very difficult. So many musical conservatory graduation students to obtain Master of music wanted to compete job vacancy of music teacher. Musical conservatory about job vacancy of music teacher just only recruit 2 or 3. How many musical conservatory graduation students to compete job vacancy of music teacher? Maybe 30 musical conservatory graduation students go to compete job vacancy of music teacher. Of course, according to our review, most of international students whose come from China didn't meet the requirements of essential technique. For piano faculty Chinese students, they were often never use metronome to exercise hanon and czerny etudes.

My birth mother is a musician. And my God, do I wish I was raised by her. I showed interest in music early, and was "allowed" to get music lessons. But when I really got my mind set on becoming a professional musician, my adoptive father really did his best to discourage it. He'd get these balding, bloated Italian guys from his tool and die shop to tell me how hard it was to make it as a musician. Of course, the market for Italian wedding band accordionists is limited. Not what I aspired to do. Thinking about it makes my blood boil. I think it's a bad idea to raise other people's children if you expect them to be a miniature you despite sharing no genetics.

My situation is similar. Im not exactly a musician but i love art. Ive always loved art and i don't remember a time i wasnt drawing. Im pretty good at it too and ive made money from it too but my parents still disprove of it. Because in my culture art is stigmatized. They don't care unless you make loads of money. I'm currently forced to study science and im at the end of highschool. Im honestly miserable and dont see the point of moving on with my life. At this point wether i pursue art or anytgibg else im too deep down in depression to ever be happy. I just wish they'ed crushed my enthusiasm and love for art when i was a kid. Before my skills and passion developed to what it is now so i wouldnt be the way i am today. I just want it all to end...

It doesn't matter with like music and dislike music. Essential technique such as Hanon and czerny etudes exercise they didn't meet the requirements of essential technique such as tempo requirements. They were often never use metronome to exercise. That's reason why they were impossible to be musician. Essential technique was combination with music expression each other. Without essential technique without music expression. Slowly tempo music style anyone can play, but virtuoso presto very fast tempo not anyone can obtain and perform. That's reason why to be musician very difficult.

My son is a musician. He started playing sax when he was 10. He's 13 now and plays both alto and tenor sax, electric bass, and keyboard. I can tell you first hand I have no power in preventing him from playing music. It seems to be part of his genetic makeup. There's times when he has music in his head and can't focus on anything else until he gets it out. His aspiration is to be the greatest rock saxaphonist that ever lived. check him out on youtube/goosesmom

DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS LIKE TO HAVE A PASSION FOR MUSIC, TO POUR YOUR HEART AND SOUL INTO A PERFORMANCE, TO FEEL THE FEELING OF SATISFACTION ONCE IT IS OVER?!!! Food and necessities are important, but people need to keep your brains active. Entertainment is one of the leading factors in that. But I guess that you wouldn't understand how a musician truly feels when making music, calling it inferior and unnecessary you little jerk.

    • @mileynick88

Whatever, really, not all engineers, doctors, physicians etc, are successful a lot are teachers, work for others and are not really planning on solving or discovering something. If you put a musician in one of those careers you'll only get failure because what that person is important at is making music, I realized this because I was constantly thinking I am not good enough just because I want to become a musician but you see, music saved me from depression, doesn't matter how much effort I need to put into it to make it, doesn't matter if I have to spend from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm practicing because I love it, I can't imagine a life with music. On the other hand I can't imagine doing all of that I just described with other career.
