The master you are talking about is actually the man who orchestrates the Farmers Bloodhounds. Without him there is no FBH, if there’s anyone I would give way to it is him! Beautiful horse Tonic and quality rider, just needed to use the hunt etiquette in this instance. Xxx

@@tomowens9759 No. You are wrong. In hunting you stay well away and clear of the "huntsmen". They have a job to do.
Also he was explaining to keep away from the horse in front. Apparently there was a young horse in the field and by hunting ETIQUETTE IT SHOULD HAVE HAD A GREEN RIBBON IN ITS TAIL. A "kicker" would have a RED RIBBON in its tail.
And if you still love me, tie a YELLOW RIBBON round the old oak tree! !!!! LMAO

Mate your horse is absolute gold. He dealt with that mess of a field incredibly well. Not meaning to be rude, but there was some shocking riding by others that could have potentially impacted on your own horse’s confidence (through absolutely no fault of your own). He is an amazing horse, and you are a really calm quiet rider.

you are not suppost to ride Infront of them, but also there was 3 and may have been very confusing and he did politley ask why there where so many. he was probally let off with a warning and you dont see him w bloodhounds a lot either
Glad to see there was at least some people who noticed their horses getting tired. It's baffling the stupidity of some people, running their horses out, forcing them to jump when they're clearly tired and then wondering why they stumbled and fell.

Not to mention noone stops or cares about a horse or person falling even our hunt doesnt do this there are a few like that here but they get kicked put our hunt stops for breaks and water fof horses and people as well as stops everything to check on people tgat fall or horses that fall or seem to be hurt

This was absolute carnage. I've never seen a hunt so disorganised before. There were to many hunt masters imo. It made it hard to know who was who and they never seemed to decide on decisions. Half the riders seemed to not know how to ride or understand decent hunting etiquette. And the amount of people fall off was insane along with the amount of tired ponys. You handled everything really well even when you got cut off and given poor striding and Tonic is clearly a very honest pony who is responsive. Loved the edits in the video and it was nice to see your view and who im assuming is ur grooms view. Not everyone was poor eggs in the group and in the end it was a nice hunt.
Luna I know how hurt a person can get at a missed jump. This was accidents waiting to happen.
I totally agree. Very disorganized. No one understood the rules & etiquette of "the hunt" - clearly. First thing is you stay behind the hunt masters - the so and so's in the red coats. It was rather cringe worthy. But Tonic is a very good citizen. He didn't seem to mind at all, even the rude pony & rider who pushed ahead to jump the gate. Tonic has a very good brain. Didn't get ruffled at all just marched on steadily.
oh dear I watched this to the end! It got worse but tonic the lovely boy that he is just took it in stride. He clearly loves his owner as one of his ears is always pricked to hear "good tonic". Such a lovely horse & rider.
I must say, I'm impressed with the horses. Good and honest and taking care of the hacks sitting on their backs. why the hell does everyone seems to crowd up each others' arse...good way to cause an accident.

Between the author being cut off at a rail by another horse, rider(s) coming adrift very early in the clip, at least 2 Masters claiming to run the hunt - It definitely qualified as "carnage!"
The Masters do control the hunt. You don't question them. They're experienced fox hunters. & riders
I have been riding hunts for 20 years and i've never seen anything this chaotic. Don't you guys have a rider there who is leading the hunt and is not allowed to be overtaken? (Jagdherr or Master in German) or is everyone just going where he wants to? in Germany we have different fields of riders, the first one jumps everything (and the horses need to be well trained and have some experience, as well as the riders) and second field for beginners. This looks pretty dangerous to me.
Wo könnte sich denn mal so eine Fuchsjagd ansehen? Ich habe zwar ein eigenes Pferd, sehe uns aber noch nicht als Team bereit bei so etwas mitmachen zu können. :)
@@juprila2425 Beim örtlichen Reitverein fragen. Ansonsten einfach mal googeln, je nach Bundesland gibt es bei den Hundemeuten auch Auskunft über Jagdtermine. Und wie gesagt- im Allgemeinen geht es bei uns doch sehr viel gesitteter zu, auch mit Gruppen für Anfänger und genau festgelegten Strecken.
Ja also das sah ja mal aus wie eine richtige vollkatastrophe, alle durcheinander, kaum Rücksicht, schneiden sich die Wege ab

Bei uns in Österreich od auch Ungarn , ja, gibts gesteckte STRECKEN u auch verschiedene Gruppen ....allerdings reiten die Engländer ja mehr Jagden u sind sehr routinierte Reiter , viele von Kind an...sieht man ja auch hier das Reitniveau vom Können des Geländereitens an...die reiten dauernd Jagden.
Exactly. We (southern and mid Atlantic US) always had a second field with its own field master for those who were new to the hunt, those with greenies, ones who wished to bypass some jumps, or those who simply enjoy a slower pace. They were often referred to as hilltoppers.
Many of these folks needed lessons in hunting etiquette.
Tonic is such an honest young horse and was ridden sympathetically. I would have needed many stirrup cups at the end for certain!

Well that was disorganised chaos!! If the narky chap on the chestnut was the ACTUAL master, why did he only tell you after a few lines had been ridden? Tonic did really well... he's a very honest horse...
And I totally understand the master should be at the front... and organises the hunts... 3 problems... it should be said to everyone before they all set off... there should be a maximum number of riders there were far too many... and lastly the master needs to show respect to get respect...

Field masters...weren't there 3(!!)? Two ladies on greys (one with unplaited tail that put in a few stops) and the guy on the chestnut who was hanging back quite a bit. Never get in front of the field master (in this case for me, the lady on the grey with plaited tail) Having 3 was confusing especially the guy, at first I thought was in the field! Guess you had to be there!
The ladies on the greys where out to give the grey who kept stopping some experience the chestnut was the true field master of the day
I remember seeing someone nearly sent home for overrunning the Field Master!
In the hunts I have participated in, nearly a third of the field would have been sent home or at the very least ordered to the very back of the field! Pure carnage. As a side note, I am always great ful when the Staff wears their "pinks". So much easier to see.
They may have been whips
But don't know why they'd be among the field.
The field was a bit confusing. In the states , there's order to who rides where.

In the states you do not ride along the Master, or in front.
There were pinks all over that field. No apparent order.
Pinks, the red hunt coat. Called " pink".
Hunt officers only wear them.
What an honest horse you have! He kept trying even when you were cut up by rude and ignorant people. And two field masters? If so, then explain at the meet, not during the hunt. I hunted for years, and things can get confusing, but it all looked chaotic to me. Well done Tonic!

Pity about the belligerent field master but Tonic was great, typical of the Irish Draft breed, solid and sensible. Enjoy him
uuuuh I do not want to see good old Tonic fall... :( Like him. Normally, I prefer more thoroughbred and smaller horse types, but he seems so calm, sensible and good willed he captured my heart. He is a good lad, giving all he has. Please always take good care of him!
You do a excellent job riding Tonic at a steady pace as everyone is racing past you.
Ok Tonic is a great horse in great condition with a great rider but most riders and horses have no business being there. This is some tough riding only for the very well trained and accomplished. I would have just went around everything and do the galops. Thats complicated enough with so many riders. Good boy Tonic indeed.
Thank you for sharing. As a Texan who has only seen this from the sidelines I really enjoyed the first hand view. As someone thousands of years older than you I cringed seeing you fiddling with your phone, then realized my friends and I would have been doing the same if we had them back then. Tonic is lovely and very handy in some tricky situations. Well done both of you!

I've hunted very many a time and now looking back can see that the field have far too many ignorant people out for their own ends. Years ago we would often stand on point and quietly watch hounds work . just a scrum now with no artistry.

I just cannot imagine how the field master issue was not discussed before hand and was just supposed to be common knowledge apparently in his mind? It seemed more riders than you were not given the info on that due to the fact that man was in the middle of the pack throughout. Seems these details should be discussed with the group beforehand. As far as I could tell the greys were the fronts, those ladies were the ones making decisions green horse or not. I feel if he was the true field master there shouldn't have been the two ladies in red as well? Rather confusing, especially when he took No lead throughout?

Tonic is really genuine and honest. You are lucky. Look after him. Some unnecessary jumping at the end spoilt it. Twits treating their tired horses like machines: not a good example. Keep up the videos! Really enjoy.

Goodness, I've done my fair share of hunting and I think that you really must be prepared and picky with the riders you allow following the hounds. It took me many many hunts riding in the back fields before I finally felt ready, and my horse felt ready, to join the hounds. For the safety of horses and riders you need to be prepared with skilled riders which I fear many of these people weren't. You, however, I feel are certainly and well qualified for this, I admire how kind you are to other people and your horses. It's truly lightening to see that, especially in the hunting world. You handled the chaos very well and I don't know if I've ever seen that many falls and broken fences in a single hunt before. You and Tonic are a great team!

I'm sorry but this just seemed like organised chaos and very dangerous for 70% of the time. Some horses were exhausted and others should not have even been there. You have a beautiful horse so please take great care of Tonic. What went on in this ride is something I'm not a fan of for several reasons, some of which I've mentioned. The other aspect is the damage to the land and its boundaries. I'm sure there were more than a few fences in need of repair after that outing. Not fair on the farmers either. This is only my opinion so don't over react people.
All fences were designed to be jumped therefore easy to replace if damaged. They are repaired after by volunteers with the hunt and all expenses are covered. We have permission to ride across the farmers land from them and we are incredibly grateful to them. Part of the reason we look smart is to show our respect and any larking around will not be tolerated as this may cause further damage to their land or others.

Damage of the land and boundaries?! And for what, do You think, they had been created??? XD Dude, this is the best and most natural way to cooperate with a horse: nice gallop on the large fields and grass, jumping the wooden fences! Yup, it is dangerous, that is obvious :) And also the sport causes the exhaustion XD It would be strange if the exercises and jumps would NOT cause exhaustion XD

people forget the reason horses run is to escape predators. belting them around fields in huge groups (often with predators running around) is activating their 'flight' instinct. i guarantee you 90% of the horses here are scared out of their minds.
i'm sure some of them are trained well and remain calm in this situation, but it's not a nice thing for horses to go through regardless. and you're totally right, this is so hard on their bodies. i'm interested to see how many horses are still hunting in their late teens early 20s.

Ann Hayward ... Well, if going to gate was anything to go by, I don't think you'd have any problems. When approaching a fence, hedge, ditch or gateway, you hold back and let others go through, especially Hunt staff and hounds. If there are hounds, hold back and SHOUT "HOUNDS PLEASE". . single file through narrow fence ways....

While you are a good rider on an absolutely AMAZING horse, it doesn’t matter how many Masters are riding in/with the hunt. You ALWAYS stay behind the Master!

this was a great second video to watch, however... I agree that it was disorganised and unclear; that field master should've chilled a bit with his explanation. I mean, even as a South African sometimes-rider, I know not to pass the fieldmasters and that's cool. I must admit, this has awoken my desire to go x-country, but sadly, no horse to ride.
Love these videos, They take you right into the action. I find myself leaning slightly forward every time a jump is taken.

I dont think it was chaotic. Normal hunt with a big field. But some massive jumps! I used to hunt in Galway,Ireland so I am used to stonewalls and not these wooden fences.

Tonic is remarkably sensible for a young horse (despite some chaos around him), which pays a compliment to his owner, who always gives him a calm and sensitive ride. The horse is a real christian.

I’ve been to many many hunts with my own horse and never have I ever seen or taken part in a hunt so unorganised… so many individuals being hunt masters, other riders taking ahead off in front of the master and just carnage!! Plus being cut off by the gate and honestly I cringed watching this video!!
So unorganised and chaotic…! Ridiculous I’m seriously surprised nobody was seriously injured or killed in this hunt due to the lack of organisation and nobody having a clue on ediquite in hunting either. No way would I have taken part of this hunt was run like a bunch of knobs!!!
Tonic was so honest and honestly apart from a few you were one of the most organised and educated rider during this hunt!!!!

A few questions please.
1. Must you get permission from all the property owners?
2. Who pays for all the damaged fences and such?
3. Does anyone stop to help the fallen?
4. Why 3 field masters?
1. Yes, you definitely do, with farmers generally The Hunt informs the farmers and local fieldowners directly that they're about to have a hunt in the area, generally here (Ireland, we hunt actual foxes so we don't have setup jumps like this really) most won't mind it and give permission, some may not due to things like crops planted, tilling or development etc, the Fieldmasters then pick and adjust the route accordingly, the heads up give farmers and people a chance to bring their animals, cattle or their own horses out of the field for the day so they don't get in the way or escape with opened gates.
A polite and courteous hunt when passing fields hunting a fox tries to stick to the edges of the field instead of ploughing right through it to save the land for the farmer, any hunt that does this can ensure the farmer will appreciate this and allow you to use the land to pass through next time you hunt! There are some larger hunts that complain that less and less farmers are giving permission to pass through their land, but forget that they let 100 horses plough through their field of grass in boggy wet, absolutely ruining the farmers grazing for their cows come Spring. Keep to the sides of fields, the hunt and landowners will thank you for it!
2. The Hunt always have groundpeople that follow the hunt everywhere they go, their job is to help fallen riders, sometimes catch loose horses, they fix the ground up , close and lock gates that were opened, and repair any knocked over walls, fences, etc, they were great enough to pick up a whip I dropped and lost a good hours canter behind me and found me at the end of the day to give it haha.
3. Yes, many people do stop to help, there are also people nearby on the ground, many are just there to spectate, but also groundspeople like I mentioned above generally step in to help and give aid!
4. I have no idea to be honest, any hunt I've been with has had only one, maximum 2.
