This is the correct answer. When it comes to the overall package, X is the superior game in my opinion. Character development was handled through side quests, the story telling wasn't great, but the overall story is interesting and leaves players wanting to know what the hell is going on in Mira. I honestly would have traded in X2 (which I enjoyed) and XC:DE (which is a remake of one of my favourite games of all time) for XCX2. I need that game so badly. A switch port of X would make me happy as well.

I enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition a bit more, but I do love both games. The second one had a few more annoying aspects to me, like blade skills, that blocked progress artificially sometimes. But the first one is almost perfect to me, with the story, characters, and fun quests! I do think Pyra/Mythra are some of the best characters in the franchise though. I wonder where Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will enter into this conversation when it eventually releases.

I would choose Xenoblade Chronicles as it is the JRPG that got me fully into JRPGs, but XC2 is just as good as an argument. The ending of 2 was the most hype I’ve been because it felt like a payoff of playing XC1 first, and in some regards, the combat of 2 is better than 1.
So…both are equal to me, and X is still, imo, their superior.

I first got into Xenoblade back in 2014, when 1 was the only game. It's thanks to chuggaaconroy that I got introduced to it, before Shulk even joined smash. I was obessed. I loved it so much.
When Xenoblade X came out, I got it day one. And I played it literally every single day. I was going through a really bad time in my life and it saved me from suicide. One game held that much power. I made X my life and cared more about my Shulk avatar than I cared for myself.
Xenoblade 2 got announced at Nintendo's switch event and I screamed so hard. I was so happy that we were getting another game. It didn't seem possible but it happened.
Xenoblade X was my favourite game ever and when 2 came out, I was in yet another tragic spot of my life. So just as X, I played it every single day. I loved it. But if I'm honest, I really was just distracted from any flaws. I didn't care, I didn't want to criticize it, I just wanted to play Xenoblade and be happy.
It was my favourite game then. But after Torna came out, which I literally stayed up an entire 48hrs to beat so I didn't get spoiled, eventually I fell off.
I replayed through 2 for like the 4th or 5th time and I started to really notice how flawed it is. How unpolished it is. I never enjoyed the over-sexualized designs but I ignored it back then. But it reallly bugged me. I suddenly just wasn't having fun anymore. I hated Chapter 4. I hating how the pacing was really slow sometimes. I hated how Morag and Zeke got so little screentime compared to Rex and Pyra. I hated how Rex got a lot handed to him and never had to struggle for long before he became OP. (Such as when Jin transforms and we barely get to see him be threatening becuase literally next chapter Rex becomes OP enough to beat him.) I didn't enjoy the game's framerates and really poor resolution. I hated how Nia had a crush on Rex even though it was never once hinted while Melia's was. And I didn't like the ending anymore other than the hope that the new land was a way to connect 1 and 2. 2 started to really grow sour for me.
During this time, I rewatched Chugga's entire 1 playthrough for like the 4th or 5th time. And I just became so much more in love with it again. It brought me comfort. It still gave me chills. It was when I realized, "This is my favourite game."
Boom. After a long time, DE is revealed. And I lose my mind. Finally, 2 fans can actually play it. Finally, so many tiny flaws are fixed along with the really poor wii graphics.
And so, DE is my favourite game of all time. And I don't think that'll change anytime soon. Even though a lot of the cast lacks as much depth as some of the 2 cast has, I don't feel it's needed. The characters are just so strong already from the start. And Shulk is just such an incredible protag. I love the music. I love the world design. I love the story and oh the twists. The ending. It's just something nobody could ever convince me not to love.
Currently I rank X as my 3rd Favourite game, behind Bowser's Inside Story. I wish more people could experience it, it means so much to me. That game easily has the best gameplay in any JRPG or Open World, hands down.
As for 2, it really is in a need for a DE. Otherwise, I'm stuck in this love-hate relationship. Thanks for reading this.

Look XC1 is not a bad game, I really like it but having played XC2 first I just couldn't get into XC1. Yes I know I'm in the minority. XC2 does it for me and I just played XC1 to get the story and finish the game and never looked back. Meanwhile I have 800 hours in XC2 and is my most played game on Switch. To me almost everything in XC2 is better than XC1. Another thing, everyone holds Shulk as such a great protagonist. I played the entire game and I couldn't care less for Shulk, Firoa & Reyn. Dunban is alright. I agree that Rex is far from the greatest but I still prefer him over Shulk. If only he had a different voice but I got accustomed to it. I cared more for XC2's cast than in any other game I can think of. XC2 is a masterpiece for me. The music, world, cast, battle and story to an extent just does it for me. Meanwhile I cannot for the life of me finish Future Connected. I tried several times and just keep quitting. Really really want an opportunity to play XCX on Switch one day.

I think the gameplay of XC1 'seems' simple but is actually incredibly complex. I played both games when they first came out (2010 - 2017); XC1 is my absolute favorite game of all time, and XC2 is an amazing game with great characters and solid world and music.
People say Shulk is cocky and the only character that the game spends time on, when that is not how he is portrayed at all. He is very humble in the game so I don't get where people are coming from on this one. Fiora was literally dead at a big portion of the game is the main driver (haHaa lol) of the story plot. How is that not tragic and interesting? Reyn is a juxtaposed by being displayed as this meathead who is also very protective and caring. Dunban give you a glimpse of what if feels like to lose family, and how strong you should be to keep living. All the other characters bring very complex subplots to the story for you to get to know and love them. I don't really see how people can hate them. Even Riki (who I hated at first) turned out to be a dad who can relate to what happening and acts a comic releaf to easy the burden on everyone.
I think the online debate of which game is better might have tainted your experience with XC1. I am glad you love XC2 though.

@@xord5293 Definitive was my most anticipated game when it was announced. Before I played this game I never read anything negative about it. I also usually like to go in blind like I did with XC2 so unless I finish the game I don't look at too much info on it. Nothing was tainted for me is what I'm saying. I was 100% excited for the game. Also please don't get me wrong I don't hate the game. Far from it, I think it's a good game. However I do agree I was spoiled by XC2 just like how BotW spoiled a lot of other games for me. Concerning Fiora, the game introduces her and before you know it that 'something' happened to her. Umm am I supposed to care? They never allowed me to care for her so I couldn't. In XC2 by the time that event happened with Mythra at the end I more than cared for her. I don't want to go further into things that rubbed me the wrong way with XC1 because it would appear that I hate the game which is not true. But the bottom line is I didn't care for majority of the cast in XC1 because to me the development was just not there. I am glad you and many others enjoyed the cast. One thing I think we can all agree on is the music is astounding in both games.

My first entry in the Xenoblade series was XCX back in 2015 and fast forward to now having played every title in the Xenoblade series it’s actually my 3rd favorite (XC1 then followed by XC2). At the end of the day it’s just what the game has to offer to each individual player that allows them to resonate strongly or weakly to each title in the series. Also this is no disrespect to XCX either as I think it’s still the most unique Xenoblade Chronicles title and has by far the best gameplay/exploration, just story wise, characters, music, etc I think the other games outshine it

I love all three Xenoblades a ton but I think XC2 is definitely my favorite. The story and themes really go above and beyond, the different topics it handles such as how people view being remembered and trying to find some goal in life, and how the different characters' personal life philosophies clash throughout the plot, are all really interesting, and I think some of the character development (such as Rex, Pyra/Mythra, and especially Jin) is beautiful. The ending of the base game and of Torna: The Golden Country are the most emotional I have gotten from any game. I love the gameplay too, it's pretty complex but once you get it down you feel so smart and the long team combos are super satisfying. Xenoblade 1 had better story pacing but Xenoblade 2 had a stronger personal impact.
It all comes down to opinions. People can argue which game has the better story, but ultimately, it's whichever game has more personal value to you. Neither story is strictly better because they are very different. Xenoblade 1 taught me how great video games can be at telling a great story, and it set the standard for me. Xenoblade 2 hit me hard on a personal level I didn't expect it to, and it made a lasting impression on me.

I played XC-2 and Torna before XC-1 and Future Connected, so I think that is affecting how I rank them. If I had played them in chronological order, then I might have loved XC-1 more than I do. I personally feel like there's way more character development in 2 than in 1. Your party members barely change at all during the entire playthrough... You get some info and arcs based on their pasts and you could kinda count that as character development, but in the end they are the exact same characters during the whole game.

It's pretty funny how in this comment section many people seem to like 2 more because of the emotional impact it left on them, but personally, while it was my first game in the series and I had a lot of hype when I bought the game on release, I ended up not being affected much by it. Yes the story was pretty incredible, but also very chaotic, and the many plot twists were what really keep me on toe at the time, but in the end it didn't resonate with me that much. I just found that there was a lot of bullshit in this story, and the end was completely anticlimactic. The final boss was audio visually stunning, but really I was not really into the fight because of the fact we are really just fighting someone blinded by Amalthus hatred for humanity, that no words, even if they are senseful, can reason. It's not my only gripe with the game and while I still have really good memories of it, of the 140h I have put in my first playthrough of it, it's right now the game I like the least in the series. I then played Torna, still on release, and loved it a lot, the Torna titan was beautiful, I liked the cast more than in the main game (Jin is one of my most hated character in the main game while I found him really enjoyable in Torna), I liked Addam more as a main character than Rex, I liked the story more, the combat system more, the quest more, and even it's short length. I immediately put it well above the main game.
Then I played Xenoblade 1 at release and from the start I was hooked. I started the game blind though, with no prior knowledge of it, but I immediately was so hooked on the scenario and the characters, and it lasted until the end, with the exception of one moment on Mechonis where I found the pacing was a bit too slow for my liking. The intro of Xenoblade 1 is so perfect each time I play it I get chills.
Music of 2 is excellent, but I prefer the style of 1 better. Torna's jazz was also really great and blend well with the mix.
Graphically they are all excellent but Torna was probably the most advanced one overall, which is pretty logical.
Gameplay of 2 is really slow to start and overwhelming at the end, I never quite got along with it, while I loved the take of Torna on it. I liked 1's combat system more than 2, but probably around Torna.
In a side note I also played around 10 hours of Xenogears and still have to continue it, but I like it a lot right now, even though many things are still quite mysterious right now. And I still have to start X someday.

I've purchased the first Xenoblade Chronicles a total of three separate times at this point (on the Wii, New 3DS and now the definitive edition on Switch). That said, I still feel like the original was a fantastic RPG but for sure was the lesser of the three main entries (with Torna and Future Connected under the umbrella of their parent games respectively).
I had never finished the original Xenoblade until now on the Switch. The quality of life improvements really went a long way and I can't imagine having the patience to figure out those obscure side quests even way back when I actually had some reasonable free time on my hands. Though I'm starting Future Connected this weekend, I really really loved the Torna expansion and considering how much more I liked 2 before that was even part of the package, Future Connected is gonna have to kill it to move the needle for me.
X is still my favorite by a country mile tho and Nintendo should at least try to pay more attention what people want: Real talk, X was what sold the Wii U for an enormous quantity of Nintendo's player base.
    *Edit*
Obviously, this is just, like, my opinion man. Xenoblade is tied with Dragon Quest for my current favorite JRPG series and I'll probably buy whatever TF Nintendo greenlights from Monolith Soft. That studio deserves so much more attention than it's currently given.

He always looked at the bright side of things. Like the first scene he accidentally caught a crabble instead of treasure, he was fine with it cuz he could at least eat the crabble. There was no sense of struggle as you make it out to be. He's no desperate boy and they probably should've made him one in the beginning.

Like I said the way you describe Rex isn't actually how he feels. As far as we see, his past or current situation never effected his emotions negatively. His village looked after him after his parents died and he was only like 3. As far as he's concerned, his whole village is his family.

You're just projecting that onto his character. Literally his only flaw is that he's naive and that doesn't make a realistic character. He's just not a complex character. How can I feel bad for a character when they don't even feel bad or don't have self-destructive behavior?

X2 has a better battle system hands down. It may seem “complex”, but it’s very simple and straightforward once you understand it. When that happens, it’s a matter of chaining orbs and the right ones with your team. It becomes a matter of battle strategy. Do you seal self destruction or stop reinforcements? Quick! Run to the side for your next art. The gotcha mechanic of the blades has never been a problem for me. It makes sense within the story and a great surprise to see who you get, whether you like them or not. 😀
Torna’s vanguard battle system makes sense because you don’t have the option and story length/scope to search for new blades being a DLC and all. It is a condense version of X2’s battle system. It’s intense and great for a shorter game overall. However, it lacks variety for the longer main game without the blade option.
As for X1… that’s a mess. The UI is clunky. Picking an art is a chore, and I am not sure how effective some members really are. Story wise, they are both great. Can’t say which is “better” per sae, but I do like the cast in X2 more. They seem more developed.
Edit: haven’t played X yet, so can’t say much about it aside I hope they port it and add in all the parts they removed in the original release like the Ghosts’ sections.

Fiora is by far my favourite character to play as in both XC1 and 2. Future connected tied up Melina’s story with her sister lovingly. The best side quests are in Torna and not in XC2. They are interwoven tighter together than even those in Future Connected (which came technically after). And if you are interested in the same thematic ideas Takahashi and Saga have been exploring in all their xeno series, Mythra is a masterful embodiment of that. Shulk is a very close second. I can’t wait to see what happens in XC3.

I prefer Xenoblade Chronicles definitive edition personally. I played the original back on the Wii while looking for open world games. It was a bit pricey at the time ($80 iirc), but it was definitely worth it. It's the only game for me aside from twewy where I'd say "yeah I would've paid more for this game" if I got it at lower price.
The story pulled me in right away after the mechon attack, and subverted my expectations multiple times. This game uses gameplay to tell the story too. I also think the first Xenoblade has the better soundtrack.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a game I really liked, but it didn't live up to my own expectations from Xenoblade 1. The combat, just like the story, has the problem of "it doesn't get good until later". And I think the combat suffers more because of the awful tutorials. But there's a lot of characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and they're very fun and I like them, except for Rex. Rex just waters down the experience for me. Oh, The rare unique blades have their own side stories too, and unfortunately I think many skipped out on those. Shame since they're fun, and with cutscenes!
The thing that kept me from liking Xenoblade 2 as much as the first were: the story pacing, slow pacing in general, awful tutorials, rex, terrible main objective directions, some things were done in cutscenes instead of in-game (Myhtra's foresight, and canonically losing a battle when you won in-game, for example).
That's my own take on things.

Can of worms officially opened lol! Personally I never like getting into this topic because it can get pretty toxic because some people internalize, "I like X game better," as "I think the other game sucks and has no redeeming value whatsoever." Personally, I have things I like better with each of the games.
I like the Voice Acting in XC1 more simply because XC1 had better overall voice direction than XC2 did on the whole. I also think XC1 has the stronger opening act, making it the easier game to get emotionally invested in. XC1 also has an easier to understand game interface and combat is a heck of a lot easier to grasp initially.
On XC2's side of things, I think the characters are deeper and more fully developed than XC1's cast. They have more pronounced and nuanced character arcs and I was definitely more invested in their stories than I was in XC1's cast. I also think while XC1 has the better opening, XC2 has the more compelling ending for me. XC2's combat is also more complex and it feels better to master than XC1 where I never felt that I needed to change my play style at all for.
There are a variety of factors that I can weigh as to what aspects I think one did better than the other, but ultimately I think it all comes down to which overall experience did I enjoy playing more. For me that is the total package of XC2 and Torna the Golden Country, but if you like what XC1 brought to the table more, then that's fine too so long as you don't crucify anyone who has a different opinion. Shock of all shocks, it is even okay if XCX is your favorite XC game. That is a completely valid opinion.

2 has too many things that bog down the adventure, from a terrible waypoint, tutorials, slower basic combat, Indoline being the worst chapters in the game and other small things that keep the game from being 100% polished. 8/10. XB:DE on the other hand is a 10/10

I have put more hours in XB2 (and Torna) than the rest combined.
There is more replay value in XB2, more tools to create your own fun (see difficulty slider and nuzlocke style gameplay with NG+ made by the community)
The story hits hard, and still brings a tear to my eye in that final chapter.
    So XB2 gets my pic.
That isnt to say the others are bad by comparison. Not at all.
XB1 is still a fantastic game and DE improved much of jank found in the original.
The only thing I wished DE changed was the combat, Sharla is a good character with horrible gameplay design. Melia must be controlled by the player, and to a degree Riki has similar AI issues.
These issues limit party choices and is very frustrating.
X is probably the best open world game I have ever played.
What holds X back is the story, it very much feels fragmented or salved from a grander plan that was cut for time. The ending doesnt help here. If it got a full remake with a coherent story it would easily be one of the best games around.

In terms of story, to me the best is XC1. In terms of gameplay, content and fun my absolute favorite is XCX.
I tried my best to like XC2. I literally got into the franchise because I wanted to play 2 but I patiently went through 1 first and it became one of my favorite games of all time. After putting 70 hours in XC2 I decided it was time to quit. Nothing worked for me, except the combat, which is fantastic and Morag. Aside from that everything is a downgrade IMO.

Definitely play the base game first or the DLC will spoil things from the main story. Then play Torna and you'l appreciate the base game's story and characters all the more.

Xeno Chron 2 battle system is hugely confusing and very complicated with ahuge earning curve. But once it is mastered is is majorly rewarding. no more boring fights, u r paying attention all over the place at what is hapenig and what to do during battle. Very aweosme. but I did not master it until probably 15 or 20 hours nto the game. 90 hours in and I am only on chapter 5 too, HUGE game if u decide to fuly explore stuff.

I give it to DE for a few reasons based on a bit more of a serious, epic adventure akin to a Star Wars or Fellowship of the Ring style travel-battle-event story cycle. XC2 has this but I think it veers more into a Disney-ish, Shonen Anime approach, which personally I fell in love with, but I was more captivated and moved by XCDE. I personally feel that XC2 is way overly criticized and hated by people who probably didn't get super deep into the game, which can be seen as a fault of XC2, but I still think there is an incredibly memorable game and story within the package.

I Love All three Xenoblade’s but XENOGEARS Hands Down.

  • @reeseseater12
    @reeseseater12 2 роки тому

So Xenoblade Chronicles is one of my favorites series of all-time and I don’t think there is a bad one. That being said I would actually have to agree on a lot of points.
1’s story and character development I believe was great. The writing was so good and the world building was phenomenal. I liked the customization of the arts you could assign to your characters. I didn’t mind the gem system but I can get why people would. I do believe pouch items and chip modifications in 2 was a better alternative.
2 simplified the arts down a bit, going from 8 to 4 but also not cutting back on what you can do because of the blade system and you could essentially have 12 arts. Combat was more fun with the blade combos. Obtaining the rare blades was awful though, I didn’t care for them (but the blade quests were good imo).
Now what Torna did was take what 2 did and scale it back and I think it hit the nail of the head. Rather than what seemed like hundreds of pouch items you had crafting skills each member of your party could do and it was like 15 max (or each) per, much more manageable and streamlined. The Vangaurd system I also prefer too and reducing blades from 3 to 2 and blades from like 40+ to 6 I think did wonders. Now I believe you could do more, maybe have an additional party member or two and hence some more blades. Get the writing and character development from XB1, the character interactions from XB2 and put that into Torna’s formula but make it a bigger game like 1 or 2 and I think you got the perfect Xenoblade

    • @reeseseater12
      @reeseseater12 2 роки тому

I will add XC2 was a little too fan service-y & anime tropey. They should scale that back. Sure XC1 had its "jiggle physics" but that never had me roll my eyes. Torna didn't have anything that came to mind to be that bad. A small thing but things you did hear about. Just go with some more natural proportions and don't draw overwhelming attention to it. Just my opinion (I still enjoyed the games regardless because I'm not obsessed with those things like a lot of people seemed to be but they did go over the top in 2, I can admit that

    • @reeseseater12

@Nhat Anh Hoang not as bad though

    • @reeseseater12
      @reeseseater12 2 роки тому

@Nhat Anh Hoang the point of Shulk sparing Mumkhar was to show Shulk's growth and realizing just getting revenge wasn't gonna solve anything. Mumkhar wasn't killed for the plot, he was killed because he didn't learn that lesson, that he was still driven by petty revenge and it lead to his demise. It was a contrast between the two paths and showing how revenge consumes you till it inevitably leads to your downfall. Also, at that point the party surpassed Mumkhar, so he wasn't a threat to the colony. It went down to Shulk because he's their leader and they all trusted his decision.
As for Rex, well his journey was different from Shulk's and he was a different person. His was about growing up and becoming someone people could depend on. Whether he'd kill Mumkhar....he wasn't put in that situation. He doesn't kill needlessly, he spared people. I guess the closest situation would be Bana and he didn't kill him, Bana committed suicide, but they were gonna let him be arrested. So idk how cut & dry him letting Mumkhar go is. (the situations aren't 1:1 so the possibility is still there)

I really love Xenoblade Chronicles 2 the best. The world is amazing with all the different cultures, the colors,... the characters are great and I love the story, it really stayed with me after playing it. I liked Xenoblade Chronicles : Definitive Edition and I think the story flows better in terms of pacing but it was not as memorable as a whole as 2 for me and the characters were in general not that interesting to me. Every time I see pictures of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I have a big smile on my face and it's one of my favourite games of all time.
