    the last time i got laid off it took me 18 months to find a new job, so you are doing damn good. and possibly even lucky. i would never *ever* move to a new place without a job in hand either because moving costs a lot and I am not gaurnteed to find a job there. glad it worked out!

    8 rounds of interviews is insane. i just interviewed yesterday and the decision is made by one 15 minute phone screen...

      This is why I never had any interest in working in corporate setting.
      On top of the hoops they put you through just to be selected, you can be let go for many reasons and many times out of the companies control like laying people off to stay afloat.
      I feel like these jobs have no job security.
      You can be back on the street in months..looking.
      I think its time I create my own work.

    I'm so glad that you got it! They should give you a pension for making you go through all those interview rounds!

    Congratulations! So, since you got 6 HR phone screens and 4 were referals, does that mean out of all the cold applications you only heard back from 2?🤔🤔🤔

    Just curious, how many years of experience did you have already? I graduated with a CS degree months ago with no experience, I've kind of just given up. Even for junior positions, you compete with people with 2-3 years experience

      I have over 5 YOE - this time around I found it harder than I have before. finding a job in tech is just really hard atm

      @beccawex dang, appreciate the reply. I decided to stop applying to swe/qa/helpdesk jobs for now and am just applying to tech sales jobs now, that side is still not as bad to get entry level interviews (BDR).
      I'm Canadian and unfortunately things are even worse here for the SWE market than the US

    How did you manage to find those 4 referrals? was it by DMing recruiters on Linkedin?

    • @beccawex
      @beccawex  24 дні тому +3

      I got referrals from reaching out to previous coworkers and friends in companies where I saw job postings that matched what I was looking for in my next role

      @@beccawex what would you recommend if you don't have previous experience in the field you're trying to find work in?
