One way Apple can add a “Pro” feature to the iPad Pro is the natively add 16:9 external video output, whether that’s from the UBC-C or through Airplay. This will require an iPadOS change or maybe even a change to the hardware itself. But either way, it’s a bit deflating to find the next person to present in a meeting when the person before did their presentation on a Surface in its full screen glory start to finish into a 16:9 aspect projector/large flat panel then you come in with your 4:3 aspect. Yes, there are apps that will scale to 16:9, but natively iPadOS supports only 4:3 aspect.

I got one back when I used a Wacom intous pro, used it on my cintiq 22 hd and use it on my iPad, and it helps so much!! Can definitely recommend. MagdaLenaS I used to do that. You can still sell 1 generation late devices and get OK money for it. If it’s your daily work tool it’s fine and makes sense. If you just watch videos and read websites... not sure why you need the pro, but if it lasts many years, ok. Since I just moved to Sydney and there isn’t an Apple Store next to me, and The carousel app doesn’t work here, I’ll wait until I get how things work here. I also don’t want this too much. The camera bump means I need a new case and I like my stickers on it.
For Valentine's Day I bought the base model an pencil for my Lady and I. Wanted us to have identical hardware so I can provide tech support. We couldn't be happier! There may come a time when I want a large size Pro, but for now these are perfect for learning all the gestures and features, and the drawing apps. I'm still using my iPad Pro 2017 model w/ 1st gen Apple Pencil with Procreate. It still works great! Just the battery doesn't last like it used to (understandable).
I'd love to see you do a review of the Paperlike 2. Your review of the original Paperlike(and other matte screen protectors) were incredibly useful to me and a comparison between the 1st and 2nd gen Paperlike would be neat.
I love your channel and I thank you for bringing this fun stuff into my living room, especially your drawings/creativity and reviews. My iPad Pro 2020 is on order but it's not considered essential by Amazon so I have to wait a bit....and that's OK. Wishing you health and happiness and cheers from Bulgaria's Black Sea coast.
I just bought my teenage girls 2 iPad pros and 2 pencils and my self a pro also. It is replacing their iPad generation 2’s and I hope they can use them for school and entertainment all the way till college. I bought myself one to replace a gen4, I will be using it for drawing and Logic Pro x. I’m really excited because it’s a huge upgrade.
8:42 there's actually a silution for that, theres paper like screen protector for the ipad so it would feel like you're drawing on paper and there's a rubber tip protector for the apple pencil so it would not slip and the apple pencil stil works fine.
Couldn't agree more, I purchased the 7th gen 10.2 iPad and it works great. I draw with procreate, take notes, etc. I'd like to have the iPad Pro, but for almost 3 times the price is a nope. If I could sell my drawings and make the iPad pay itself, it could be logical. But for the use that I give to it, is more than enough.
to everyone here thinking of buying an iPad , get the 320$ one don't waster ur money on a shiny new 2020 iPad pro for almost 1000$ with a pencil, other then looking pretty and few layers in procreate u will gain nothing (maybe some screen size if u get the 12inch version) , i never owned an iPad or any other apple products , in fact i really hate IOS and iPhones and how stupidly complicated to get some simple stuff done, if you are worried about the 32gb is gonna be enough , yes it will if you don't fill it up with movies and apps , you don't need to install apps in fact , becoz the desktop browser like experience , the only app i downloaded it procreate and later sketchbook don't be stupid , be smart get the 320$ version
@@nlmlkadhsu1868 thank u , i like how brad is the only artist youtuber who keep recommanding the base version , all other keep overhyping the Pro version for stuff u will never use
Thanks for this, I was almost tempted to get this, but I currently own the 128GB 2019 iPad 7th gen and I realized I don't really need to upgrade right now. With that and using Clip Studio Paint I've got more than enough to work on my art with. 👍
I like Sidecar for drawing except for 2 things. The biggest thing is it locks up and won't work until I restart sidecar. The other thing is since I'm using a standard 2018 iPad, the screen is much smaller than the pro, and when when I drag the Adobe Animate/Photoshop window over I have to break flow to move my cursor over to the other screen to the timeline/tools. I use my iPad when I'm not at home, but If I'm working at my desk I still use my Intuos Pro to take advantage of the screen real estate of my 27" external monitor.
That’s what I’m doing. Get apples education pricing if you do. I got the iPad Pro 11 2020, Apple Pencil, and AirPods for $920. I am in school but they don’t check if you are 🤫
Just got the 2020 ipad/pencil combo for my birthday. I was alarmed at how the pencil didn't seem to be functioning properly, I was afraid it was an issue with my pencil. Glad to see from this video that it just doesn't work its best on the smooth bare screen. Thankfully already have a screen protector ordered, now I just have to wait a few days before I can actually get drawing!
I ordered this model. I thought about the 2018 one but this is my first ipad since the ipad2 i won in a contest a decade ago. Lol. Nearly all other products are samsung or xp pen/huion. And I want this 2020 model to last a long long time which I hope it does
me watching this on my old iPad 2its not bad for every day of usage specially when you using basic apps here it's still ok but not as fast because of no receiving updates I don't had any problem with is iPad it's still ok the important I got the experiences about this iPad in past of 2013 and now it's 2020 I'm still using it
Upgrading from the 2017 6th gen I’ve had for 3 years I’ve more than made my money back in commissions and I use this thing daily! Getting the 12.9inch one next month
Thank you so much for the review! My boyfriend and I have the 2017 iPad and we've been thinking about upgrading for some time now and this video really helped with that decision :D
I bought the 2018 Pro in October last year and at the moment I don't regret it. The extra storage would have been nice, but that is basically the only thing I'm missing from the 2020. And considering I managed to get it used (with 9months warranty left) for 750€ with the folio case it was worth it. And that is my advice for others. Try to get the 2018 Pro refurbished or used, exchange the savings for more storage, 4G or just save the money.
I have a 6th gen. iPad with Apple Pencil and I love it as a companion device for my hobby art needs. I have a late 2012 mac mini and a few (hobby home built) PC's. Great video Brad of reviewing this 2020 iPad pro. I enjoy, agree, and trust your digital art assessments. I like your logic and value your advice in digital art creation.
Literally, just bought my first ipad pro yesterday. Wish, I had saw your review before I purchased. Awesome, review! Thanks for confirming that my non-tech savvy self did a pretty great job picking this out. I did opt for the 11" for portability because I have a work laptop transport and it is pretty big and clunky. I look forward to exploring more of your content as begin to delve in to how the heck do I use this thing.
Hello Brad, About side car, just plug in your ipad to your mac and it will be no lag at all. On my 2017 ipad pro, photoshop A3 300 dpi used with the lightning cable on my mac is no lag at all any brush. (mac mini 30g ram i7). Sidecar lag on wifi only on my experience. Anyway i sold my mac and kept only my ipad. no problem on procreate for all work, no problem of layer limit cause you can save your selection now for infinite number.
As a professional artist that is using the ipad pro 12.9 2017. I wish apple could also create a larger ipad pro. Maybe 15 inch perhaps? And a thinner nib for the apple pencil so I don’t need to always zoom in whenever I am inking finer details and or a hovering cursor like on the cintiq drawing tablets. That would be great. Please please apple make these happen for the tons of your ipad pro artists users. Thank you very much.
I have the iPad Pro 11 2018 and i had loads of people say to me why don’t you just sell it and get the iPad Pro 2020 i said I’m not bothered about the camera and it does everything i need so I’m not bothered about getting the 2020 model
I got the Paperlike you mentioned for my iPad 7th gen (and used your link) and I just got it this weekend AND ITS AMAZING! I was worried I wouldn't get it with the world being so chaotic right now. It has changed my drawing experience dramatically. It was too slippery without it. Thanks for the recommendation and I always love your videos.
Update: I've been using the iPad as my fun art device and still sitting down at the computer with deco 03 for real work. It's nice having that separation, especially during this quarentine.
It's interesting how even in just small snippets of explanation, you answer the infamous laptop replacement question better than most tech reviewers I see who are supposed to know the most about this kind of thing. Having used my iPad Air for a while, I can absolutely see someone using it or the iPad Pro as their only or main computer. Heck, if it was my only device, I could probably get by as well. Buuuut that doesn't work so well personally for my workflow. For the video editing and music production I'm normally doing, and for the games I play, my gaming PC is just so much more practical than the iPad ever could be, but it does make life a lot easier, especially when I'm somewhere that chucking a giant heavy battery hog laptop in my bad just isn't practical.
Just received mine today. Upgraded from the 2017 iPad pro 10,5". I'm already in love with the design, form factor and new apple pencil. It's difficult to wait for the new keyboard. Might want to get the smart keyboard in the meantime.
Still use my 2017 ipad pro, and while it's not the most lightning fast, especially since i work on clip studio paint instead of procreate, but it still works well enough. I just don't see myself upgrade ipads until ipados is MUCH closer to a normal os. Without a hardy editing program or animation app, it just can't replace an animators device. (It's ideal to be able to nest videos and images on a timeline, and I just haven't found a way to do that yet.)
@Brad Colbow Hi, at first I like your videos a lot. 2. I want to start with digital drawing wich ipad pro do you recommend the 11" or 12,9" of course with procreate?! maybe you can make a video for all of your youtube fans?! and at last 256gb enough storge for the paintings for procreate?! thx for your answer! Big Thumb Up From Germany!
Yes, I bought one. At first I thought the 12.9 would be too big, but the size is perfect for digital drawing. Above all, you save a lot of time due to less zooming and the splitscreen function enables better drawing of pictures, side by side. I can recommend the 12.9!
Wow... Precisely the type of video I was looking for. Helped answer a variety of my questions but made my decision between the 2018 and 2020 version even more challenging. Haha!
I saw a video back then, on people using lidar sensor on their phone/tablet (IDK if it's apple or not). They are using kinda IKEA apps? Basically they are measuring an empty spot between walls and other furniture (width depth and height), and the apps automatically searches for all kind of cabinets that fits the size, and they can see the result real time (with AR). Very neat and useful!
Braaad! Please tell me that you're about to share your review on the Ipad Pro 2021, so that I can know if I order one or not 😅 Cheers ! Love what you do!
The bottom line: * For work, it is not a laptop replacement. Just use laptops, jeez. * For travel, earlier smaller version is still good with a lot of the same features, so again, no need for replacement. * Really, its worth depends only on the kind of work you do, but again, many great works don't even require too sophisticated tool. Learn how to use the tools you have, instead. Unless the only tool you have is a mayonaise, either tool is fine.

Lidar.... something I always wanted.... so I took your advice and bought a refurbished Ipad Pro 12.9” for less than a new regular Ipad. Great review! By the way, the A12Z is only marginally faster than the A12X, some real life test show it to be slower.
I found the statement, the ipad is my companion device, to be true for me too. Drawing, and writing, and files, projects, and to do’s ...pretty much everything. But then I occasionally want do more, utilize a professional software but can’t. I don’t like using my laptop, it’s cumbersome, the locked on keyboard gets in my way, I’m tablet spoiled. I wish apple would make THE IPAD PRO FOLD ! Folded it’s utilitarian perfection with a choice preferred keyboards, then opened ...the world of graphics and entertainment, wohoo!

Paperlike is not really better than other matte screen protectors, jfy, I tested them. So it seems to be a hype
I have the ipad mini 4 {very small} And I am starting to get into digital art,and the Ipad pro looked very interesting. This was very helpful!
Not gonna lie... Thats the most satisfying review I have watched till date..!
I’m really excited because it’s a huge upgrade.
this is literally the first longer video in months that I watched til the end. Subscribed too, great content! will binge watch all your videos now ;)
8:42 there's actually a silution for that, theres paper like screen protector for the ipad so it would feel like you're drawing on paper and there's a rubber tip protector for the apple pencil so it would not slip and the apple pencil stil works fine.
I still use my 2017 iPad Pro. It works just as fast as the day i got it.
its the same for layers since the 6 GB ram is divvied 2 GB goes for System and 4 GB for the apps
Thank God I found an artists review of the iPad Pro. All the other reviews discuss chips and processing power over and over. Thank you for this vid.
@BradColbow I am so happy that I found your channel - it is so helpful!
Me watching:
Also me: so am i gonna buy it?
Also me: *thinks* o wait...me broke...
to everyone here thinking of buying an iPad , get the 320$ one don't waster ur money on a shiny new 2020 iPad pro for almost 1000$ with a pencil, other then looking pretty and few layers in procreate u will gain nothing (maybe some screen size if u get the 12inch version) , i never owned an iPad or any other apple products , in fact i really hate IOS and iPhones and how stupidly complicated to get some simple stuff done, if you are worried about the 32gb is gonna be enough , yes it will if you don't fill it up with movies and apps , you don't need to install apps in fact , becoz the desktop browser like experience , the only app i downloaded it procreate and later sketchbook
don't be stupid , be smart get the 320$ version
Well said
@@nlmlkadhsu1868 thank u , i like how brad is the only artist youtuber who keep recommanding the base version , all other keep overhyping the Pro version for stuff u will never use
I've never owned an iPad, I'm so torn if I should spend all of this money to further my art career 😬
Anna Gosciejew yes
That’s what I’m doing. Get apples education pricing if you do. I got the iPad Pro 11 2020, Apple Pencil, and AirPods for $920. I am in school but they don’t check if you are 🤫
Scott S. Lol ikr
@@SawyBoy Good to know. 🤭 I graduated college last year and I'm a working professional, so any way that I can save money is always appreciated.
@@SawyBoy Ohh! How do you do that? Is it only through Apple's site?
Brad: BENT TEST
Me: Sweating
JerryRigEverything: I know the outcome of that 😉
Thanks for the update. I would love to see a comparison between sidecar and duet.
The mic actually surprised me. That is pretty damn good quality for a smart device. Like, really good for a smart device
Me loving the iPad while not being able to get it.
felt that ;3;
same
there's a lot of great ipad reviewers on YT, but Brad is personally my fav because of art niche, wellplayed bro. As an artist, I can relate so much
I ordered this model. I thought about the 2018 one but this is my first ipad since the ipad2 i won in a contest a decade ago. Lol. Nearly all other products are samsung or xp pen/huion. And I want this 2020 model to last a long long time which I hope it does
I recommend Paperlike screen protectors! It doesn’t really dull the colors or anything for me and it’s made my drawing experience soooo much better!
me watching this on my old iPad 2its not bad for every day of usage specially when you using basic apps here it's still ok but not as fast because of no receiving updates I don't had any problem with is iPad it's still ok the important I got the experiences about this iPad in past of 2013 and now it's 2020 I'm still using it
Upgrading from the 2017 6th gen I’ve had for 3 years I’ve more than made my money back in commissions and I use this thing daily! Getting the 12.9inch one next month
I think my mom is gonna surprise me on my birthday with this
Thank you so much for the review! My boyfriend and I have the 2017 iPad and we've been thinking about upgrading for some time now and this video really helped with that decision :D
Him "I cant afford to wreck another ipad." Me. "I cant afford and Ipad at all"
Better start saving
I bought the 2018 Pro in October last year and at the moment I don't regret it. The extra storage would have been nice, but that is basically the only thing I'm missing from the 2020. And considering I managed to get it used (with 9months warranty left) for 750€ with the folio case it was worth it.
And that is my advice for others. Try to get the 2018 Pro refurbished or used, exchange the savings for more storage, 4G or just save the money.
Don’t forget the SHADOW under the snake!
How can I connect it with the MacBook?
Randomly found this after researching whether I should get an iPad Pro - gained a sub from me! Super informative, pithy, and helpful. Appreciate it!
Great review!! Also I love the doodle you did, so cool! I’m going to check out your courses
Never had an Ipad before, been drawing digitally for 2 and a half years. The only thing I would use this for is art, UA-cam, etc.
Brad Colbow: "Let's do the bend test!"
Me, literally screaming at night: "NO! IMPOSSIBLE!!! HAHAHA!! YOU WON'T DO THAT!!!"
I have the iPad Pro 11 2018 and i had loads of people say to me why don’t you just sell it and get the iPad Pro 2020 i said I’m not bothered about the camera and it does everything i need so I’m not bothered about getting the 2020 model
I have the 7th gen base model ipad and as an artist im so jealous of pro users 😃 bought one today
Hello ! Can I ask you which model did you take and of you took Apple Care ? Thank you !
Great review! I’ve been thinking it’s time to upgrade to the iPad Pro, and you’ve set my mind at ease.
I have the 2017 version and it works fine but procreate is starting to lag a lil bit. It also has a light bump on the screen. Might get this iPad now.
Did you get one ?? I want one for note taking + start learning digital art .. So I want to know what did you choose ??
The bottom line:
* For work, it is not a laptop replacement.
Been waiting on this for a while 🤩
I am watching this with my iPad Air (2013) , this iPad has been with me for 4 years ,rarely lagging, but I can’t draw on Procreate anymore, my iPad is too old :( Fortunately in 2 weeks I am getting my first iPad Pro model!!! Finally I will be able to make art on Procreate again ! I’m so happy :D Thank you , this video helped me !!!
My iPad is broken and it glitches and has screen meltdowns a lot my dad bought me an iPad (they’re divorced) and my mom won’t let me use it at all I don’t know why she might have selled it tbh my iPad is really bad and it’s so frustrating
Thank you for this. My tablet Ive been using for years is meeting its end. The space was too small and its super laggy so thank you
I just came across your udemy course by happenstance, have always been a fan of yours and besides this video saying so I didn’t know you had courses. I will check those out.
Literally typing this on my iPad Pro 19.5 2020 floating keyboard... yeah its worth it
GREAT video man. Will be following more of your videos. This was a very sincere and honest review
Watching it on my IPad Pro 2018...
Someday I am in need to an new IPad, BUT I WANT THE FINGERBUTTON!!!!
Why is Apple taken down the scanner button??? I mean, yeah Face ID is cool but the finger sensor is WAAAAYYYY netter than literally anything.
Thats a sHaME.👏🏻
Great vid... have a galaxy tab s6... but my dream is to have a pro and procreate 😍😍
If you're superior to buying the new IPad Pro, take a look at my long-term review! I hope it helps!
I’m too enamored with his drawing to hear anything he’s saying about the iPad 😬
Lidar.... something I always wanted.... so I took your advice and bought a refurbished Ipad Pro 12.9” for less than a new regular Ipad. Great review! By the way, the A12Z is only marginally faster than the A12X, some real life test show it to be slower.
It’s pretty exciting for me because I’m using an old iPad Pro 91/2 inch. The price seems good. Old models are still pretty high on SWAPPA.
Hey I was wondering what size iPad you’re using in this vid? (12.9” or 11”?)
That's the 12.9
