I never understood the "oldest country" LIke yeah Egypt had an old civilization but the country is completely different and was ruled by outside forces for long periods of time.
If you want the actual oldest country/republic in the world, it is San Marino!
Yes, and officialy the republic of San Marino is the oldest country, it came straight from The Roman Empire (SPQR is the one I mean)
it was ruled by several countries that's true but despite that, its traditions and civilization never changed and current egyptians do look like and act like and even speak the language of pharoahs from thousands of years ago with arabization, so yes egypt is the oldest country
San marino is old though since the 4th century i think
What's meant by it is a historical region or land with continuous cultural and national development and heritage. That means clear connection to it's past phases of development. That's what today's Egypt still has. For example if today Japan conquered Egypt, wiped out or expelled all Egyptians and inhabited their land and destroyed their culture, Egypt would stop existing. But if one day, many years later, lying on their bed, the ancestors of those expelled Egyptians would wish to trade all those days from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance to come back and tell their enemies that they can take their lives but can't ever take their freedom, and got up from their beds to reclaim their land, culture and region, renewed it all to a shape that is at least remotely close to it's former shape, then Egypt would exist again.

Hi Jack, a lot of Japans debt comes from them having to borrow money to care for their huge elderly population. Because fewer and fewer younger Japanese people are having kids, that means there’s way more old than young people, thus they have to borrow lots to care for them :)

In Nauru they have no agriculture so they have to ship in food that is usually easily stored and not of the best quality, plus the population is tiny so once a few of them get huge their rate is through the roof

By the way, Albania has so many bunkers because during the cold war, a communist dictator named Enver Hoxha ruled Albania and he was paranoid that his nation would be invaded and divided by Yugoslavia and Greece so he built alot of bunkers around the country to prepare for such a moment.
(I think that's basically why, but I don't know so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

Papa New Guinea having the most languages always blows my mind, their population is only 9 million. That's around 1 language per 10,700 people.
Whereas Europe is more like 1 language per 1.8 million people!
Papa New Guinea having the most languages is actually not true! Don't know how ignorant the people who made this video are as many things are just wrong. India has more than 1250 languages spoken though 22 are official languages used in the Government docs etc
@@ashyouknow7420 It also depends how you define a language with a certain definition you could say over 300 languages are spoken in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium, but Belgium only has 3 official languages.

Britain invaded Iceland in 1940. There were no shots fired or any conflict, it was as peaceful of an invasion as you could get. But the fact remains that they did not ask permission, they just showed up and said we're going to dock and we're going to occupy your country.
In case anyone's not fond of googling. The reason they did this is because Iceland's location in the Atlantic holds considerable strategic value as a midway point between America and Europe. Hitler had been showing interest in Iceland for that reason and so Britain decided to take Iceland before Hitler did. Some Icelanders, including the government still weren't happy with Britain as Iceland had taken a strictly neutral stance in the war.

France's location -- bordering or very close to -- many wealthy countries accounts for it being the most visited. Stays tend to be short, though. The U.S. earns a lot more money from tourism, and Spain earns a bit more than France does.
That's because people naively go to Fr*nce, and then once they're there they realize they're in Fr*nce, so they want to leave as soon as possible

In reality, France calculates its tourists differently from other states: if a tourist lands in Paris and then goes to visit the Louvre, he is counted twice. The most visited country in the world is Spain. The most visited city in Europe is London

Nauru has a very big food culture that is traditional to the island. It’s a way of greeting, celebration, you name it! Most of the people there love to cook and share it with the community. You could say people become friends because of food there! Sadly this does lead to obesity, but people are very passionate about cooking!
I had heard that though India had only 22 languages in the constitution, it has around 1000 languages spoken in the country
22 are recognised by the United Nations
Whereas there are more than 1200 languages spoken in India literally if you travel 20-30 kilometres you'll hear people speaking in different languages

An other record : in 2010, Belgium smatched the record for country who spend the most time without a legitime government (589 days between the elections and the moment we created our official government, during this time there was an interim government). But in 2020, a new record was set, wich is 652 days and was made by... yes, Belgium again (actually Northern Ireland spent 1000+ days without a legitime government, but as it's not a country and it was because of brexit, it's more special)

My story to watching you is interesting to say the least. So my friend loves geography so I started to want to learn about it and after finding your geography channel I just watched your geography videos ever since.
Mine is literally just I randomly found his main channel back in 2018 was really interested in the arg and found the vids entertaining forgot about him for a bit but rediscovered him in early 2020 and subbed to all his channels

So about Peru. My dad went there for work in 2015 and they had to get into a bulletproof van and drive at 120kph in a two lane. Then they hade to stay at a safe house with 24/7 security guards. They had to do this because 2 years earlier someone was kidnapped and held ransom for 500k (aud)
