My husband and I are building our homestead slowly while still trying to wrap things up out west. I often get the questions about who will take care of things while we travel and are on vacation. I hate to admit it but after trying to move for ten years I don’t think I’m going to go anywhere. I’m just a smidge older than you both and all I want to do is build gardens, coops etc…. and stay home. It’s that old saying “Create a life you don’t need a vacation from”. Loved the Q&A.
It must be getting cold there by the looks of it. I cant wait till is actually, hopefully gets cold here in Southern Az. Do you guys have UPS and Fed ex out there? In case someone wanted to send you a parcel that cant go to the post office.? The Tomato Whisperer short is my favorite also. I am a tomato lover too. God bless and be safe out there. 🙏🏻💜
I'm 67 and have a salon. I transitioned over time to from a 70 hour work week to 2 days a week. I'm asked over and over "When are you going to retire?". I would rather be in my Honeybee yard, with my chickens and in my garden actually but I'm still working on that dream financially. The 2 day job helps pave that way. It's a little late but it's my fun time, my peaceful place in this "lunatic twilight zone " world. I think you folks are on a wonderful path. Keep making it your peaceful happy place. Enjoyed the video. Susan NW Georgia
Thank you for this. I have been keto and I.F. for almost 3 years now and I think it saved my life. It is like I gained an extra 10 - 20 years. So much more strength, energy and no pain. I was 240 , now I'm 160 - 1/3 of my weight gone and good riddance. I am not strict about it but I have found a good rhythm that works for me. Some people are so critical and I suppose, for some people it does not work. I am so grateful that it worked for me and also glad to see you two visibly thriving.
You two do work well together! I can remember working with my husband and a guy there was amazed that we were married. He said “I could never work with my wife!” I said “Then why did you marry her?!” He kinda stared off and said “I don’t really know….”. I’ll never forget that. Many, many people are not fortunate enough to marry their best friend and I feel for them. My husband and I have been married 34 years and are now empty nesters and we’re glued at hip just like before the kids. Y’all’s genuine love and respect for each other shows and I think that’s one of the best things about your videos.
I'm in my 60's and semi retire, someone asked me when I was going to fully retire. And I said when the good Lord calls me home. Until then, the Lord always has something for me to do. Amen. I'm not young anymore and I may have slowed down some, but I'm not stopped yet. My wife and I were married for more than 32 years, but I lost her to a bad car wreck, and what a shock. Keep holding hands and show your love to each other. Keep up the good work and God bless you and your family 👪. By the way, I do have 3 grandkids all boys and they're 10, 8 and 6. Love them all.
Love that you would fish beside each other. We have been married almost 50 years & people ask what do you listen to on long drives? We listen to each other. We have so much to talk about, we like to learn from each other’s thoughts and opinions.
I really enjoyed the time you took to answer questions. I love your videos and I continue to watch them. I will be 72 years old this month. I love what you do on your homestead. God Bless you all and your family.
On that last question, I thought one of you would want a huge glassed, heated greenhouse to grow citrus. It was super sweet that you both want to be able to fish together. That is the one thing my mom and dad loved doing together. ❤ tomatoes love fish guts.
Great video with answers to questions I would probably have asked. My husband and I have been married for 48 years and have always worked well together both in a business (not homesteading) and at home. As for retiring, we are both retired from our 9 to 5 jobs but are still working every day on passion projects. Our theory is that retirement doesn't mean you stop - you just pivot.
I enjoyed the Q&A a lot! I wish someone had asked if you miss bread in your diet or if on occasion 😋 Sarah makes fresh bread 🍞 for others being the amazing cook and person that she is. May you stay strong 🙏 in your faith 🙏💪👏 and continue to share the glory and examples of how God continues to bless you and us with your presence.😊
I’m a retired Registered Sonographer. It was a very rewarding field. I specialized in breast cancer and neonatology. You would have been excellent because you are a detailed oriented person.
When Kevin pointed at Sarah after the waterbath canning question, I laughed so loud! I just love your channel and have learned TONS from you guys. I'm in Southeast Kansas so we have very similar climates.
Cristy and I are planning to begin homesteading in 15 months. Our hesitancy is if we will have enough money to be sustainable. A question I did not hear, and maybe you could elaborate, if you did not have income from Utube, could y'all still make ends meet? I think that is a major concern for many who want to begin homesteading and any help would certainty be very much appreciated. Thanks, Love you two!
Loved listening to the questions, and your answers. Out of curiosity, you mentioned your on Keto, and doing intermittent fasting. You don't eat breakfast, and start eatting at around 1 PM. When do you stop eatting time wise at night? I giggled when some of the questions wanted to know about retirement. Your both at an amazing age with great energy. I'd love to revert back to this age. My husband, and I are now in our 60's. I see a difference in our energy levels. Granted we work hard but can't work hard on consecutive days. Prime example, we maintain 4 to 5 acres out of the 20 we have (15 acees are all woods). If I were to weed whack, and cut grass (both push mower, and tractor) on those 90 degree weather days. I'd have to work hard 1 day, take the next off, and then continue working the day after. It's hard to admit at this age (61) I have to slow down a bit. Taking care of your body when your younger truly makes a difference. This was another great video, thanks for sharing.
Hey y'all, that was is a fun video. I love all the questions and answers. I often wonder but do not ask too many personal questions as I try not to get too invasive. I am so surprised at the questions some folks ask and the intense comments they make even to the point of being rude or nasty is shocking. I guess it is a reflection of the society we live in. I choose to stay on the positive high road and offer encouragement rather than point fingers. I do love that your channel offers great information along with encouragement and a peaceful escape. Thank you for what y'all do here because it does matter to so many people. bye for now
you guys work very well together, the one thing I noticed when i started watching your channel was that you never interrupt each other, when one is talking the other does not, that is very different than other couple you tube channels, i enjoy watching what you guys are doing, great job
I love this fireside chat. I have loved wstching this channel grow. I am gravitated to channels that show a healthy relationship. I think that is what is missing today. I am glad you touched on the guy and girls time. I grew up with my parents doing almost everything together and me personally, I feel when those activities are added that is light for darkness to creep in. I wish you both God speed. ❤😊
we sold the farm and bought a 5 acre place. this was a great move we made as we got older. We can, freeze, etc and have for a long time. we came back up from AZ also. We raise rabbits and American Bresse chickens for eggs and chicken meet. We are older also the you two. I butcher a beef every year or two and trap every season. We take care of each other and enjoy life.
Even though you're not old, those raised beds will be a dream for you. You can never predict when you might develop a disability or an injury that would prevent you from comfortably garden other ways. Even a minor injury can make gardening painful. I can stand and garden for hours whereas I am no longer able to crouch or kneel comfortably. I love my tall raised beds! Thanks for this informative video.
Your show was a large part of my decision to move from the Suncoast of Florida to the Blue Ridge Mountain piedmonts in the up counrty of South Carolina. I have been here eight months and love it. I wanted to grow food and raise some animals. My 1.14 acres is not as rural, or as large as I had originally planned, but at 74, it is what is right for me (and a great relief to my adult children, who although tried to be supportive, were clearly freaking out about me being isolated). My biggest lesson from watching you was to not try to do everything right off the bat. I raised chickens which have recently started laying, and processed my first rooster. My raised bed garden is going VERY slowly, as is the orchard I started. Both have have been more physically demanding than I had hoped, and good sense demanded I not push myself too hard. But, I have learned to enjoy the process and just focus on what I DO accomplish rather than what I cannot accomplish immediately. I hope to add meat rabbits in the spring to replace much of my red meat usage. Plus to have access to home grown fertilizer.
Starting at 74 is a great accomplishment. You can still do a lot on that small of an area. I’m 76 and live on twenty acres but I’ve lived here all my life and my son is only a few miles away and my nephew is on the same piece of land. You should be very proud of yourself.
What I miss most about your other Homestead is that beautiful white spacious kitchen. I liked the lay out and it was so very cozy. And you saying you are still young and haven't really thought about it..47 is young but the period between young and feeling old it will show quite quickly! It sneaks up on you. I'm 64 and consider that young but the body is telling me differently now. I can't do what I use to and it takes longer to do it. Don't let it sneak up on yourself. Think long term. Sometimes just keeping the lawn mowed can be a issue.
We love watching you guys here in Easley, SC. We homestead as well. My husband pastors and we have got our folks watching y’all too. You and Kevin are such a blessing. Brian, my husband enjoys hunting and fishing too. His dream too is to have a pond one day on our property to fish on one day. God bless you both.
You two make me smile every Wednesday morning. I wake up these mornings happy to get to my computer and enjoy 30 or so minutes with you guys. Thank you and God Bless!!
I think Sarah answered a extra question. She said there is a lack of storage... you also don't have a storm shelter. One can be both.... and comfortable. Sitting out a stom surrounded by a food supply is a great way to go.
You guys are just the cutest. That fishing pond bit at the end was adorable. Love your channel and your homestead! Hope you have a happy holiday season!
Thx so much! We loved it! We think the fishing pond 🎣 should be a gift 🎁 to you both♥️ Make plans over the next couple of years and make it happen 🩵🎣🩵🎣🩵🎣🩵 After all you guys deserve it!✝️🙏🏿
As a pretext, I watched y'all faithfully for years, but we had a fire in Feb, and that distracted us, and then I decided to go carnivore as a last ditch effort to help my gut issues, so I started watching those relevant videos (sorry). But, this one came up on my feed, and I had to comment and say, you guys look SO MUCH HEALTHIER than the last videos I watched. Not that y'all looked bad, not at all, but I definitely notice the difference since last time I watched. So happy to see y'all looking into keto (hopefully carnivore? 😉) And yes, the lifestyle is SO MUCH EASIER!!! God bless!
Just love you both. Thank you kindly for sharing your journey with all of us. I have learned so much from both of you. Your honesty and integrity have kept me faithful to your channel. Continued blessing to you and yours🙏💞from Ontario Canada
One of the first things I did after I bought my little homestead was to have an F5 rated steel Safe Room installed. I have a carport attached to my home and snuggled the safe room into the SW corner of the house and carport. We've had one tornado and one really strong storm wit straight line winds and I can say having a jump bag ready at the door on those watch days makes it very easy to take me and the dogs out the side door into the shelter. It's so much better than the underground shelters. Relying on crawl space as shelter may not be such a good idea, especially with any portion of the house collapsing down on you.
That makes me feel great that that's how you dated too; that's how my hubby and I dated and a lot of my friends thought that was weird. We were married for almost as long as you are old when he passed away in 2017.
Lol, I just said to my husband-No Carrots?! He said he would divorce me😂😂. Fat chance as we’ve been married 39 years and we get along well. This year I figured out the tricks to growing great carrots which we love and other root crops.
You know the word "breakfast" meals breaking your fast. So you eat break-fast which is the most important meal of the day. Whenever or what ever you eat. Your body needs the energy protein to go on.
❤ I really enjoyed this video but now I've enjoyed all of them. I learn something each time I watch. God bless yall! Love your family. Watching from Berry Alabama.
I laughed about your last question Kevin that was the first thing I did when I bought my property and now I have 3 pound channel cat two years later and the bass are coming along. They’re about 8 to 10 inches long. Now you’re both free to come fish anytime you’d like in Lamar Missouri .😀
We live in a very rural area and got the fiber optics a year ago. It is unbelievable - and so inexpensive compared to anything else - and we had tried them all. When yours is available, jump on board!! Best thing we have ever had even before we moved out in the country.
So far one of the biggest challenges we encountered was leaving homestead for a prolonged period of time. Try networking with your neighbors, especially if they have the same interests. They need to go places too, so you can take turns watching each others backs.
Yes this is a big problem for us. Since we moved here a little over a year ago and haven't had any time to socialize and make friends. Our neighbors are having a big barn party this weekend and we are invited so I'm hoping to meet some great like minded people. 🤞.
I've been ketovore for 10 years and a gardener longer. I pared down my gardening to the veggies that are lower in natual sugars. I also IF and eat my first meal around 12:30-1 pm. At 57, I still feel energetic. I hope to one day have property to raise meat birds.
Someday far in the future you two will be sitting on your porch in your rocking chairs watching the sunset and a breeze will come along and holding hands you will turn to dust and be blown all over the farm you have created. A fitting end for valiant homesteaders.
Just started binge watching your channel. Interesting that you would be an ultrasound tech. I am 54 years old and just graduated last summer and I am now an ultrasound tech in east central Indiana. I LOVE the job. I work 3-12s so that leaves 4 days a week that I can pretend like I'm a full time homesteader! I am trying to get up the nerve to start making videos for my UA-cam channel (and overthinking it). Thanks for the videos!
Have you ever gone Salmon fishing? I love being out on the Puget Sound and rivers, fishing and crabbing. Salmon fishing is exciting. I once caught a 24.75 Lb king salmon when they opened up the Skagit river for king fishing, which was rare for them to open it. If you ever come to Washington in the summer, let me know and we can go fishing. 😁 We have 2 spare bedrooms too and you are more than welcome to stay here.
This was a fun video to wa6ch. I'm glad you decided to make Sundays a bit of a treat day. (I don't like to use the word cheat because it implies that you're doing something wrong .) I'm sure you enjoy socializing with your church community, so being flexible woth your eating habits for that one day sounds like a great way to make it all work for you guys!
Kevin - You CAN grow citrus in Missouri!!!! All you need is a greenhouse with some deep holes for geothermal heat during the winter. I will be working on that project in 2024 (my avocado and lemon are hanging out in the living room this Winter ❄️😊). Hope this helps!!!! Also, potassium is great for blood pressure 😉.
Great video! I've been intermittent fasting for almost 10 years and at 51 I feel the healthiest and most energetic of anytime my life. I don't follow any particular diet though.
This was fun to see. I think the retirement questions must come to you because of the respect you have earned from how well you plan and run your homestead and people contemplating their own retirement. If I were in that position, I would ask your opinion. Have a great day 😊
agreed! My hubs & I are older than K & S by almost 10 years, and would like to START homesteading, but by the time we get started, it'll be time to scale back! LOL
I love question time. I'm so glad someone asked about your beagles! When it comes time to put in a storm shelter, I'd be interested in not only watching that happen, but your thought process while deciding on which type to install (above ground or buried). Sometimes basements are impossible and sometimes mobility on stairs can be an issue which could be us down the line a ways.
Loved the questions and answers about retirement. I just turned 65 and have recently retired from Las Vegas to the Ozarks. For me retirement is the start of homesteading and not something I would ever retire from. Thanks for the videos and encouragement.
My wife and I dated when we were 18; we married when I was 19, and she was 18. In a few months (January 3rd) we will be married 59 years.
That was fun, thank you 😁 It's been quite a while since we got to enjoy you in front of the wood stove. Have a great week ❤️
So very down to earth and personable! A fishing lake on property would be so great!
I'm 67 and have a salon. I transitioned over time to from a 70 hour work week to 2 days a week.
I'm asked over and over
"When are you going to retire?".
I would rather be in my Honeybee yard, with my chickens and in my garden actually but I'm still working on that dream financially. The 2 day job helps pave that way. It's a little late but it's my fun time, my peaceful place in this "lunatic twilight zone " world.

Enjoyed the video.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE WOOD STOVE IN THE BACKGROUND!
"But I won't steal your fishing spot..." HAHAHHAHAHA. Now THAT's true love right there!! ❤
I really enjoyed the time you took to answer questions. I love your videos and I continue to watch them. I will be 72 years old this month. I love what you do on your homestead. God Bless you all and your family.

Is there a risk of fire?

I turned 65 in August. I have my dog to keep me company. I have had him since he was six weeks old. He is almost 14 years old now.
I loved the Q&A but I missed when the wood stove fire went out. God bless.❤
I Love you guys and your lifestyle. Blessings to you 😊

Thanks and God Bless you both as well.
You guys are fun. I love hearing both of you. 🙏
So fun listening to you ponder these queries! All I can say is you two are adorable!
We live in a very rural area and got the fiber optics a year ago. It is unbelievable - and so inexpensive compared to anything else - and we had tried them all. When yours is available, jump on board!! Best thing we have ever had even before we moved out in the country.
This was fun, thank you for sharing. Glad you have friends in Kentucky!
I absolutely love your woodburner! We need ours today. It's snowing 😢😢😢.
Good morning 🙏😊. Love this video! Thank you for sharing!
Have a blessed week
That was fantastic & fun!! Thank you!!
We love you guys!❤
So far one of the biggest challenges we encountered was leaving homestead for a prolonged period of time. Try networking with your neighbors, especially if they have the same interests. They need to go places too, so you can take turns watching each others backs.
Yes this is a big problem for us. Since we moved here a little over a year ago and haven't had any time to socialize and make friends. Our neighbors are having a big barn party this weekend and we are invited so I'm hoping to meet some great like minded people. 🤞.
Hollis & Nancy r older. They do gardening, fishing & chickens. Seed to harvest vids. And a beagle
I've been ketovore for 10 years and a gardener longer. I pared down my gardening to the veggies that are lower in natual sugars. I also IF and eat my first meal around 12:30-1 pm. At 57, I still feel energetic. I hope to one day have property to raise meat birds.
I really enjoyed your answers:) Always love watching you both!!
Thanks for this video. Yes, please do more of these fun videos. Love it!
Great video! Thanks for that!! We love that you guys love to fish!
You look warm and toasty.
Good to see you again, been awhile.
Bless you both as you look wonderful and happy. ❤️❤️
I love y'all. Love to watch your videos
LOL
I love your videos and I enjoy y’all content!❤️☕️☕️
Thanks for sharing. Fun to hear all the answers!
Those were really good questions! And great answers, thanks!
Loved this. Thank you. Love your channel.
I laughed out loud at the answer to the last question! I'm glad you guys give yourselves a treat on Sundays. You are both a team and i love that.
That was fun, Thanks! 👏👍💚
Thank you for your inspiration :-)
I love question time. I'm so glad someone asked about your beagles! When it comes time to put in a storm shelter, I'd be interested in not only watching that happen, but your thought process while deciding on which type to install (above ground or buried). Sometimes basements are impossible and sometimes mobility on stairs can be an issue which could be us down the line a ways.
Loved the questions and answers about retirement. I just turned 65 and have recently retired from Las Vegas to the Ozarks. For me retirement is the start of homesteading and not something I would ever retire from. Thanks for the videos and encouragement.
Homesteading is a form of retirement in my book, one really enjoyable by the way
You two are great
This was awesome. Thank you.
Love what you said about marriage. My husband and I have the same ideas. We have been married 23yrs
