    Around episode 7 the topic should be how to maintain marriages and finding secondary employment to get the kids through college lol. Great bid Mac I think this series will help tons of people that want to come play.

    This may be the best "budget" 3 Gun starter Video series i have seen. I shoot an old Winchester 1200 pump, a 10.5 (stamped) AR in .300blk, and a Staccato XC or CS

    Your wrap up hit the nail on the head. I just got into the sport at the end of the season last year and I'm Hooked! I used stock pistol, ar and a pump shotgun that really showed how limited I was but how much potential there is. I've since upgrade my guns this winter and hope to give some of the guys a run for their money!

    Just went on a trip to the range with my buddies and made an impromptu 3 gun course and I have to say it was a lot of fun. a couple of buddies are fairly new to shooting and they had a blast. I am going to watch the rest of your 3 gun series for good information. As always Mac great job on the videos, they are much appreciated.

    Yesterday a local range had a 3-gun class. I've never done it so I went. I carry appendix and didn't know there's no appendix in 3-gun. There ended up being 3 instructors and 3 of us in the class so it was great. Lots of time for questions and even just laughing. They just had me stage my pistol (Canik TP9SF) in a box even though they offered me their competition belts/holsters. My only shotgun is Mossberg 930 SPX and I don't have an AR so I took my Zastava/Yugo AK variant. Man I loved it and had so much challenging fun. Ended up being offered two different pistol caliber carbines too, so that waa fun. A JP Enterprises GM4 or whatever it's called and a CZ scorpion. They're having mind of a variation on 3-gun today with a 2-gun competition, handguns and the PCCs so that's why those were out yesterday. All in all the best day I've had in a long time.

    Here's my follow up. Had my first 3 gun match last month. Didn't do as well as I hope, but still had fun and will be shooting again in March. Its different from cowboy action shooting, its a fast paced sport and you are trying to compete with the other shooter.
    My first match I had a Stoeger m3k, with a 6 plus one extension tube., loading port Modified. PSA ar 15 , with Vortex Green/Red dot and Nordic Components free floating hand guard. Pistol was a Glock 17 9mm stock and a Double Alpha belt.

    Getting the ball rolling finally on my 3 Gun dream. It’s a bit hard find good beginner info. You keep it real, I very much like the AR and 9mm I have. And really tired of being told I need a Ferrari to compete. I’m more than adequate with what I have. But I don’t have the heat and your video is dead on all the info I’m needing. Thank you!!

    I'm looking at at least one 3 gun comp this year. I have the guns: my first handgun: a Walther PPQ with 5" barrel that's become my range gun (still need to replace the factory sights), a Bushmaster MOE M4 carbine clone and I have a Stoeger M3K on order.
    But yeah, I dumped a ton of money just yesterday getting ammo, spotting scope, sling and front sight tool.
    I really want to compete this year.

    I wanted to dump an addendum. I got my Stoeger M3K, the competition version of the Stoeger M3000 turkey gun, for about $600 w/ fees and taxes. I've put 165 shells through it (40 slugs, 50 7.5 shot and 75 8 shot with one failure of the bolt to lock back). Kentucky Gun Company, for those that want to know. I've also got a +5 extension tube on it. You can go Nordic, but I decided to go MOA precision. They specialize in Stoeger guns. About the only other thing I could probably use for it is some recoil reduction.
    Now, I have the guns, but I need the other gear: AR15 mag holster (at least one) and shell caddie. I'm looking at a TACCOM, but invictus looks good as well, though heavy on the wallet.
    I also got a Completion Electronics Pocket Pro Shot Timer from Midway (on sale for $109), so I'll be able to judge myself and work on issues.
    I'm going to try to get at least one competition in this year.

    • @bullittmcqueen
      @bullittmcqueen  8 років тому

      That sounds great. Both Taccom and Invictus make good caddies. I still use both.

    It would be nice to have a handgun (which is somewhat boring) and shotgun combo. And if the rifle still has to be there - something like a bolt on rifle for long shots with iron sights, and not this boring AR platforms. But best would be to have only a shotgun which is the most fun of it all

    Thank you so much for doing this series! I have my first 3 gun local match in 2 weeks. I'm an OK IDPA shooter (with my Glock 34), good shot with my AR, but by far, I'm more of a shotgun guy (trap / skeet). I have the Mossberg 930 JM Pro, so I should be good there. My question is, I have the Vortex Strike Eagle 1x-6x on my AR, would that optic put me in a more difficult division? Not that it matters, for me, a victory in the first event will be to finish without being DQ'd.

    Wanting to get involved in this with my son. I currently have an M&P 15, so ok there. However, I have a Glock 36 as my EDC, which I would like to use for the competition. Would that be an acceptable option in the short term? Thanks for the great info, definitely helps me understand what I need for a beginning shotgun.

    • @bullittmcqueen
      @bullittmcqueen  9 років тому

      Would be totally fine to start out but I think you'll eventually want something in 9mm. 45 caliber in handgun puts you in heavy metal division but the 223 AR keeps you in tac ops, so you're kind of straddling two divisions. Also I doubt your son will enjoy shooting 45 very much and it's gonna be more expensive for you on ammo.

    If I didn't have to work 40, 48, or 56 hours a week, had a lot more money, and didn't have to drive 3 or 400 miles to a match, I might try it. It's easy to see why such a small number of the 100 million gun owners in this country are competitive shooters.

    Do you have to pay an Entry Fee or Registration Fee for these matches?

    • @bullittmcqueen
      @bullittmcqueen  10 років тому +3

      Most matches will have some sort of fee to cover the cost of targets. Small local matches are usually 10-20 bucks. Major marked entry fees are a good bit higher, usually a couple hundred bucks. But the prize tables are also bigger, and every big match I've ever shot it I took home enough from the prize table to easily cover what I paid to shoot.

      +nick holland Not really designed to withstand the long courses of fire in typical matches, resulting in failures, and lack of aftermarket parts. Its an older design, and at one time I thought about trying one in 3-gun, but essentially nobody uses the 1100.

      Ok well thank you again very much. I have really been wanting to try and get into shooting competitions but very few are here in nys around my area(near syracuse). I also have an older mosberg 500 that I could use to switch back and forth until I figure out which would be easier for me. I just really enjoy guns and shooting but only have shot clays and still targets in the back yard.

    Do you have to use a gear belt?
    What about an lbv and drop rig?

    • @bullittmcqueen
      @bullittmcqueen  9 років тому

      Karl427 Pretty much everybody uses gear belts in 3-gun, I've never seen any experienced shooters using vests. Saw some from some fairly new shooters but they are really not ideal.

    Basically if you want to buy a gun for 3 gun then here's your best option
    Ruger AR-556 with a lighter trigger
    Glock 17/34
    Mossberg 930 JM pro although I think you should add a few hundred dollars and buy the FN SLP

    do you have to shoot 12 gauge in competition or can you shoot 16, 20, or even 410?

    • @bullittmcqueen
      @bullittmcqueen  8 років тому

      +Patrick Tilley it's ok to shoot other gauges but the only one I have ever seen anyone use is 20g. There are virtually no shotguns made in 16g that would be appropriate for 3-gun and 410 is not powerful enough to knock down the typical steel targets

      +Nics574 if they post a round count on the stages then take twice that amount

    do you have to have a gear belt or can you use a vest. I'm looking into getting into 3 gun and have a VERY limited budget. I have a vest at home so I would like to avoid having to buy a belt and extra gear if possible

    • @bullittmcqueen
      @bullittmcqueen  7 років тому

      +John Waters You can start out with a vest but as you get more serious about 3-gun you will need a gear belt

    How do you feel about buying a pre-owned gun and swapping out the different parts wanted? I want to get into the sport but don't currently own the required types of guns for 3 guns. Should I stay away from used for my first 3 gun rifle or would it be ok just to get into the sport?

    • @bullittmcqueen
      @bullittmcqueen  8 років тому +1

      Buying a new complete rifle may be the way to go as a newcomer. Then you can add parts you see fit. If your knowledge of the AR`5 platform is limited, stay away from used. You don't know what went into the build
