- Recently had to use the U-Haul U-Box moving container to move my stuff cross country. Here are my thoughts, impressions, experience, and mini-review of the Uhaul Ubox moving container. And why i chose it over the PODS or the U-pack shipping pods

If anyone is interested in a Ubox and worried about dimensions, I went to a local store today and they provided me with a sheet of paper from the bottom of the Ubox itself. That way I could lay it down at home and map things out.
Do you happen to have the dimensions? 😅 thanks

Thanks for this info. The Ubox is half the price of the POD and 1800 packrat. I love packrat because their containers are waterproof. But hopefully my items won't get wet in the Ubox.

How did your experience go I am moving to AZ in a few months and thinking about the Ubox, how long was the travel time for them to reach AZ?
I'd be careful. U-Haul sent me an email saying my boxes had been picked up and were safely at their storage facility. They were not. U-Haul was not even aware that they were not there. I received an email from someone asking why my boxes were still in the parking lot of my apartment complex. When I alerted U-Haul to this, they had no idea. If I hadn't called to let them know, my boxes might still be unaccounted for. I had four items that were damaged, and even though I purchased insurance, they are giving me a hard time. U-Haul lost my boxes. That's not good.

Hello! Great informative video! Just have a quick question, When I was booking the ubox, there's no info about when they will come back to pick up the ubox after the delivery to the destination. Do I need to call them after I done unloading? Thanks!

Are you able to schedule the drop off in the morning and pick up in the evening? I don't feel safe leaving all my stuff in a box overnight in my neighborhood.
I work for the ubox department and warehouse delivery is not a same day service BUT if you opt for moving help services our 3rd party moving provider we can find you local movers that CAN do same day drop off and pick up they also have options for delivery and loading as a bundle which are usually amazing deals !
Do you mind to share the breakdown total cost for your experience using u-box.

This was very helpful. I'm in the middle of trying to schedule a move and it's super frustrating. I'll give U-Haul U-Box. My question is did you have help loading and unloading and did they provide any of those packing blankets, etc.
Yes, they provide the padded blankets. I did all the loading and unloading myself

I reserved 3 u-boxes for 7/2/2021delivery to my house and weeks after making the reservation I got a call from U-Haul that the earliest they could deliver the boxes would be 7/7/2021. This meant that I could not use the long July 4 weekend to load the boxes as I had planned. BE CAREFUL, YOUR RESERVATION DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU WILL GET THE BOXES WHEN PROMISED.

Man, it's been a while. I can't remember. But probably like $50
That don't make no sense cuz that's stopping you especially if you have a lease and have to be out by an exact day
@Daphne Van Zant I used the box and actually enjoyed it ....just wasn't able to pack my couch ,which I feel would have been able to fit

When is delivered to the destination “Uhaul center” it can be store there for some time?

They might be able to deliver and pickup same day. You just have to ask them. Question is, will you be able to load it quick enough? And yes, it can be stored in the destination center. You get up to a free month, and pay for additional months if needed

We are planning to rent these U-Box for our cross country move. U-Haul says, these boxes can be loaded upto 2000lbs. is there a trick you had while loading these boxes to ensure we are not exceeding the weight limits of each U-Box? Thank in advance for reply
Yeah, this was a tough one for me. I just sort of "ballparked" the total weight of the items, as I loaded them. I prepared myself mentally to offload items, if they complained about weight. But when they came to pick it up, they didn't weigh it. So, I dunno if I was within the weight limit or not. I think as long as you don't put unreasonably heavy items in it, you should be fine

When we come to pick up your ubox the forklift will have a scale to know if you are over or if you can load more items 😃

I currently work for Uhaul an they say it built out of wood cause it's stored in a climate tempered warehouse an can breath. If that's true or not let me know. Just so I can let other customers know.

How much was the shipping? We moving to Florida from Wyoming and may have 3-4 containers
I paid about $2k for 2 containers from Arizona to Florida. But you can check their website, and input your info, and it'll estimate it for you. I believe it gets slightly discounted for each additional container
U-Box is giving my a shipping estimate of about 2500$, whereas PODS was saying the shipping would be 8100$. I’m sort of terrified that the quote Uhaul is giving me is way off, hopefully I can be reassured when I phone them soon to ask about that and any potential discrepancies between the quote and final cost.
@@HeavenlyEchoVirus I just got a quote for 1 cube from Uhaul for $1900 from AZ to Northwest Arkansas and the quote from PODS was almost $5000 so big difference. I can rent a 15 ft UHaul truck and a car tow for $2000 versus just one cube for $1900. Will take me 2 days of driving so not sure which way I will go. If I sell more stuff here before I move, I will do the cube but if I want to take all my stuff, I'll do the truck thing which will not be fun driving by myself. But all worth it to get the heck out of Arizona :).

I just ordered one for my move at the end of the month from Philly to cali, n they spoke bout. Insurance mine was like $18 for for 5000 insurance.

Did it myself. Took about 4 hours or so
What type of lock is best for the box?
I just bought a lock from U-Haul for like 10 bucks or so

I'm having a horrible experience with u haul and their u box. The latch doesn't line up and there is no way to lock it. I was on the phone with them for 4 hrs. Unless you know the latch works, I would not go this route. Basically they told me when they lift the box the latch will line up and I can lock it then. Meanwhile you can steal my s**t bc it's not secure for 3 days in my driveway. They told me to park my car against the door. I had them put the u box facing the opposite direction in the driveway. I watched the uhual official video and they blocked comments. So there are problems and there is no help. I'm sorry to post this on your UA-cam page but you literally cannot contact anyone at uhaul. Finally when I got someone to listen to me, she ended up blaming the driver and wanted to know who it was bc the box was hard to open when she dropped it off. The whole experience has been awful.
When I moved 5 years ago, PODs had no weight limit
Thanks for an honest review. Sounded like you had a pretty bad experience with U-box even though you kept saying over all it’s ok. Just the 45-min wait phone call along was bad enough to keep me away from this service. 😭

You have a choice. U-Haul can do it for you, or you can do it yourself

Unfortunately we do not offer discounts on the ubox BUT if you tell them you saw an ad on an infomercial about 1 month free you will get your first month of storage usage free which will usually cover while in transit and to unload before you are charged for the next month of service 😉
Pro tip: put an air tag inside. Also wrap everything in plastic
