    When I played this map, I always destroyed both ennemies to the ground before attacking the ion cannon. It's much more time efficient and story friendly not to I know (they're escaping, they'll logically be aiming for the fastest way to get out) but I hated Mengsk and Duke so much I basically needed to see their bases wiped out before moving on.
    Yet I'm glad you did it the fast way, otherwise we would have had a 60mn video.

    Omg, Jayborino, I have been watching you for already 2 full years. For all this time I got to university, got expelled for inappropriate behaviour, got to another university, fell in love, she cheated on me and I got expelled again. I slept for 2 months in the forest so my parents could not know about my second failure. This summer I got to the second university again and it`s all good. But you know what, Jaybo? Whatever shit happened to me, I always watched videos on your channel. You are my favorite youtuber of all times. Great thanks from Russia and good luck in your work.

    You know, Arcturus is one I have never truly understand the motivations of. I mean, in SC1 he is a rebel, then sacrifices Kerrigan, which I guess makes sense because she was the ghost operative that murdered his family, then I guess he was evil all along because he the Dominion turns out to be just as bad, if not more, than the Confederacy.
    Comes SC2, it appears he knows about Amon, which implies he gave Kerrigan to the Overmind deliberatly to make her in the Queen of Blades, and the Dominion appears to be making Hybrids for the Dark God. But then it's implied he is playing a chess game with Narud. I mean, what the hell is Arcturus is all about?
    Funnily enough, with all this baddies (Arcturus, Narud, Amon, Alarak), in lore the baddest dudes are still the UED...

      His motivations, at base, were pretty simple, but nonetheless good for a villain - he wanted power. Specifically, he wanted to rule the Koprulu sector, and he was willing to do whatever he had to in order to make it happen.
      In SC2, his motivation became maintaining that power. The thing I hate about the SC2 story is his association with Amon, that he basically became his puppet. It really knocks him down as a villain, and I don't think his character should have suffered like that. Really, the Terrans' part in the SC2 story just seemed awful, since they were just caught up in the middle of it all. Only the Protoss and Zerg really mattered, with the exception of Kerrigan (and I hate that she became some chosen one, with a redemption-except-not-really story arc).

    • @SpearM3064
      @SpearM3064 5 років тому +5

      @@Draeckon He wasn't allied with Amon, actually; just with Narud. And Narud was manipulating *everybody* in order to resurrect Amon. Arcturus provided Narud with lab materials and support to create the hybrids, under the belief that he would be able to use the hybrids to defend himself if the Protoss attacked in force. (Of course, he was unaware that the humans were the *first* race that the hybrids were going to destroy.)

    to me, this is *by far* the most difficult mission until the original Zerg campaign mission 6 ("The Dark Templar"); I was able to turtle in the other macro missions, but the AI here is aggressive on nukes and sending tanks in siege mode at your bases; I learned the hard way that turtling on the first base alone will lead to an attrition from Mengsk's forces using a combination of the two units above.
    I would even state that it is more difficult than original Protoss campaign missions 9 ("Shadow Hunters") and 10 ("Eye of the Storm"), since there are *four* resource nodes in the former and two resource-rich missions in the latter, and the starting bases for both are rather easy to defend.

    • @LordMalice6d9
      @LordMalice6d9 3 роки тому

      Protoss 10 Eye of The Storm is only difficult during the first 20-25 mins where you have to survive the Zerg's Ultralisk and Muta/Gaurdian rush that they send early. Once you get entrenched and get to carriers/Battlecruiser/seige its pretty much GG.
      Zerg Mission 9 Invasion of Aiur and Terran 10 The Hammer Falls are a bit harder to beat.

    • @Mr_Polandball4
      @Mr_Polandball4 2 роки тому

      i know i was playing this without cheats for the first time like a year or two ago i only made it to the end of the first protoss campaign and did use cheats on really hard missions but for this one i just got some drop ships and ghosts and nuked it in one hit

    • @ozar_midrashim
      @ozar_midrashim 2 місяці тому +1

      The Zerg mission 6 is hard only if you use ground forces only. Then the Reavers rape you. You have to use Mutalisks and Guardians in order to beat that mission. There's a reason you unlock Guardians there. I'd rather say that "The New Dominion" is a bigger slap to the face, as in that mission you're still learning the race and Siege Tanks on high ground are brutal against Zerg ground forces.
      Protoss mission 9 is a joke if you just mass Archons to counter devastating Defiler Plague attacks.
      "Eye of the Storm" is tough only because you have to babysit the Terran base, as well. Otherwise, it would've actually been easier with Protoss alone. There's so much resources in that mission to help you out.

    The way I kinda roleplay it in my imagination was that the commander made some heroic sacrifice and or suicide maneuver to somehow destroy the ion cannon or at least buy some time after the canons destruction for Raynor and the remaining former colonial militia escape. The confederacy was dead the commander made his final resignation.

    Yeah, it was rough going through this mission, personally. As it was the final Terran mission, I wanted to destroy both the SoK and Alpha Squadron bases before massing up and hitting the Ion Cannon, but I had two assaults against the Alpha Squadron base repelled by stimming marines and firebats, ghosts with lockdown, and battlecruiser/goliath packs. That base is a tough nut to crack!

    • @LordMalice6d9

    actually you don't need to waste resources building battlecruisers to destroy the cannon. With 3 or 4 groups of terrans as decoys and a vessel to detect cloaked ghosts are enough. Of course you need 2 ghosts with nuclear missiles to destroy the cannon.

    I've always wondered, where does the nuke land when a ghost calls it but you kill him.
    They clearly launch it as the ghost signals the position but then it must land somewhere.
    It would be fun if by quickly killing a Ghost the nuke falls back down on their own base.

  • @hansfranz1069
    @hansfranz1069 6 років тому

    Interesting. I played the mission these days and used a similar tactic. First: ground assault with mech against red, then a drop to the platform (same position ). I used 4 Ships with 3/3 marines and floated 3 rax.
    This is the best tactic I could find; I think a drop is better than an assault with high tech (battle cruiser) because the platform defends well against that (damn ghosts and EMP). But it is vulnerable against a strong infantry attack.

  • @executrixprotossgamer
    @executrixprotossgamer 2 роки тому

    This actually the mission that I struggled so much like so much ghosts, unexpected heavy attacks and nukes. However, 2 years ago I finally beat it. I beat using Jayborino's strat, and while I was doing that, nuke attacks happen rarely that time and the only place the nukes land is where Jayborino said at 2:46. And years ago, I beaten this but that was the time I used cheats to beat it but years later back in 2020, I finally beat this without cheats.

    • @ozar_midrashim
      @ozar_midrashim 2 місяці тому

      Yes, this mission is like a cold shower in terms of difficulty. Truly a git-gud type of a mission.
      Red is only tough if you let him live and get Yamato Cannon. But White is a threat from the start. He has some wicked attacks that alternate between Mech and Bio compositions. And the nukes, of course.
      The trick is to take another base as soon as you're able and not let yourself get mined out.

Maybe 4-6 wraiths for home def with 2-3 goliaths to accompany them. Jim goes with the strike force. No cruisers. SV as needed. 1 at home and 1 on the road is do able. Keep moving while replenishing marines.

      There's two unused terran missions. There's also, I think, a mission that was only avaible on the demo (where you got Duke on his siege tank). Jay has the gameplay from the two unused missions on his Total Recall playthrough, and it's basically Raynor and Kerrigan assaulting Tarsonis inbetween Duke assaulting the space platform (Terran mission 08) and Kerrigan's defense against the Protoss (mission 09).

    • @Centurian128
      @Centurian128 7 років тому +1

      There's a Battle of the Amerigo (Science vessel) cutscene in the Zerg campaign, Qwafel. You might be mixing that into the Terran campaign since the focus of that one is on the Terrans in it.
