  • In this video we look at the difference between mechanical triggers and inertia block triggers. Which ones are quicker ??? We also discuss what happens when we get into a comfort zone and start accepting scores that are below what we are truly capable of. What do we need to do so that we post scores that are truly indicative of our ability. Enjoy and I hope you find it useful!!! Stay well... Roger Pace

    Hi Roger,
I missed you. We cannot shoot in our area, not ammo. So I put trap shooting away until the situation changes for the better.
I did run a cross your video today and it was nice to hear you again.
Hopefully soon I can put your helpful practices in play.
Sorry about your gun failure. I shoot an SKB setup with inertia triggers and mine have failed once. Lucky for me my mentor Art Turner is a master at the working of SKB and replaced the spring right on the line in 4.5 minutes. He is a SKB genius.
Things happen, I hope you get your gun back soon. Don't make it feel too bad, it is a good gun
    Best regards,
    Rick Mansberger

Hit the nail on the head with this one. I try to block out everything around me everytime I get ready to shoot. I made my own side blockers extra large and it helps me and if it don't feel right I reset and take a deep breath. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and the family. BE SAFE

    Hi Roger,
So right about the concentration, my scores bounce all over the place and I know its from not focusing in the distance yet I stupidly call the bird. I think a lot of it is not wanting to stuff the others around waiting for me to get myself together. On the issue of inertia triggers, my six month old Beretta 694 stalls around 50% on top barrel until the gun warms up and been slowly getting worse for a month or so. I have had the stock off, flushed the mechanism out and re-lubed but this hasn't changed the problem. Everything looks to be working ok, so in the new year its going to be back to Beretta for warranty work. I do use a low recoil (1225 FPS) cartridge but you would think a high end firearm would accept low recoil, the manual doesn't advise against these. I think maybe I will invest in a cheap spare gun.
I always watch as they're great.
All the best for Xmas and have a great year.

    Merry Christmas Roger
I went out 2 weeks ago and saw that there were 3 other shooters where I usually shoot alone. The man pulling targets is also a great coach. He treated us all as if we could break 24 and complimented every shooter. I get a little nervous when shooting with strangers.
I shot ok, not great. From the comments of the coach you would have thought I was having a great run. I had a great day because I was on the line.
Keep the videos coming, we all wait for them and are thankful for your advice.
    Cheers

Regarding the trigger discussion - I agree that an inertia trigger being any faster than a mechanical trigger is nonsense. My Krieghoff K-80 has a mechanical trigger which is lightning fast (way faster than anyone would ever practically shoot).
As long as the trigger on whatever gun you have is GOOD (no creep, clean break, no over-travel etc.) and RELIABLE, then I don’t think inertia vs mechanical matters.
HOWEVER.......I personally think a mechanical mechanism just makes more sense and from what I’ve seen over the years, is slightly more reliable.
On a similar but different note, I did shoot a Beretta 692 for a couple of years and then gave it up for a K-80. While I never had any problems with the trigger on the 692 (I probably never put enough rounds through it to get it to that point), the forearm kept coming lose (even after a gunsmith applied loc-tite to the screws). The quality difference between the two guns is night & day.
I know those two are in completely different classes, but if you’re looking to switch from Beretta to something else, take a look at Browning. Great quality, mechanical trigger and around the same price point as Beretta (if not slightly cheaper).
Love the channel, keep up the great work and good shooting

You are so right about concentration, body position, mounting, vision acuity and then let your body & brain do the rest ! But this has to be done for 25 times in a row, that where I have difficulty... Sorry to hear about your Inertia problems again ! I got the same 690 black, but no problems yet, but I don't shot as much... I would like to sell mine to up-grade to the new 694, but I wonder it the inertia system is the same ?!? Please tell us if you change your O/U, if you do, tell us what process you went true ?!? On a other subject, I would like to know what kind of watch do you have there ? (I like mechanical things...) I have the 694 (see comments to Roger below) Its a combination between 68 and 69 actions depending on what function you are looking at. It definitely an inertia system and in my case it sucks. The inertia sears are similar to 690, the ejectors are 680 non adjustable.
