    Great video--clear, concise and provides step by step directions. I followed the video instructions and with a $10.00 junk yard part from a 1995 Maxima fixed my 1996 Maxima. Getting the solenoid valve from the 95 was easy--removing the valve from the 96 was not. So, not being able to reach the nut under the valve, even with a 10mm flex wrench, I just left it in place. I disconnected the vacuum hoses from the bad valve and placed them on the new valve, zip tied it in place and reconnected the electrical connection and everything went well. Thanks for the help!

    Also, just because you can hear the solenoid click, the Vacuum Valve in the EGR Solenoid may still be malfunctioning. The best way to test it is: Put a vaccum on the EGR Solenoid Vacuum port, and a Vacuum Gauge (with a Tee connector) on the EGR Solenoid port to the EGR. When the solenoid is off, there should be no vacuum on the EGR port. When the Solenoid is on, there should be vacuum on the EGR port with no loss of vacuum. Then the vacuum should release when the Solenoid is turned off. Most EGR Solenoids have a vent hose that let's in air to release the vacuum to the EGR port. The vent hose may have a little air filter on it (some filters are built into the EGR Solenoid) so make sure the vent hose and filter air letting air through with no leaks (you don't want dirty air in your EGR Solenoid Vacuum Valve).

    the one glaring question I wish you had addressed was when touching the pins such as the voltage check how did you choose which pin to touch because any person would wonder "what will happen if I touch the wrong one?" does it matter? if so how did you determine "I will touch the outside pin?" that could mean anything

    Great video. After you verify power to the connector, check the ground on the connector too. Turn the Ignition OFF. Then put your meter in Ohms mode and measure the other pin to ground (chassis). You should read less than 2 Ohms. Then put your meter back in Volts DC mode.

    • @paulromsky9527
      @paulromsky9527 9 місяців тому +1

      @@ericoz650 Checking the ground is easy. Put your DMM in Ohms auto range. With the vehicle powered off, measure each lead with the red meter lead, and with the black meter lead on the chassis (ground). One should read less than 2 Ohms (that is your ground and it is good), if your read a few Ohms higher, that is a bad ground. Digital Multi Meters (DMMs) take a few seconds to start reading and to stabilize, so give each measurement about 5 seconds before you make the reading.

    Since I’m not getting a full 12.1v at the connector, any idea if that might have an effect on performance of the solenoid? Unsure where to go next.

    I'm perplexed, I have the repeating (after erased numerous times, but no symptoms) P1400 code for 1998 Nissan Pathfinder 3.3, 164,000 miles. It was throwing this same code with an older motor, and still is with replacement motor installed last week. I have 12v at the wire plug when it's unplugged and key on. 12v applied with jumper wires actuates the solenoid on both its leads. But, when I have a helper turn key to on I cannot hear or feel the solenoid activating. Is this solenoid controlled by ECU giving it a ground? Or how?

I don't want to waste money in replacing a valve when its the solenoid. I have taken those rubber hoses off a few times. Are they supposed to come off easily off of the egr solenoid? the one that points toward the firwall and the two that point up towards hood towards front end also come off without any effort like the others I have taken off. Is that normal?

    • @CarsNToys
      @CarsNToys  10 років тому

      Unfortunately, there's quite a list of things to check. Besides P1130, do you have any other codes?
      First check the hoses between the intake manifold and the swirl control valve. Look for cracking, clogging, improper connection, etc.
      When you say you've replaced the valve, are you referring to the solenoid valve or the actuator?
      The valve also works with other sensors. If these sensors stop working together they could give code p1130. Look under my page and watch the video for throttle position sensor and mass air flow sensor. Perform the same test on your vehicle as I show in the videos and let me know if anything comes up.

      CarsNToys Do you mean the EGR temperature sensor? Are you getting code P1401?

  • @mueenel
    @mueenel 10 років тому +1

    I am getting code P1400
    I checked the EGR and it's working fine
    I check the sensor and I hear click I checked the voltage and it 11.5
    But I am still getting code p1400 every time I erase the code
    When I take the two hoses from the sensor I see a lot of very tiny charcoal inside the hoses
    Any idea why

      Moe Zein Okay. So you're getting battery voltage at the harness; that's good. And you checked the EGRC sensor itself and it's working correctly. Is this correct? The EGRC has three hoses coming from it. Is the sensor you're looking at have three hoses?There's a 10 amp fuse for the sensor. It's located at the fuse block and it's number 16. (If you don't know what a fuse block is just google image it.) Check the undercover of the fuse box and it's #16; or just look for Engine Control.

    I have a 98 max se, I was getting codes 1447 and 1440, I cleaned out the tubes that lead from my purge volume valve to the canister, because It was full of charcoal particles. when I recheck the codes, 1447 and 1440 was gone, but 1148 was there, should have replace the canister and not cleaned it out, or did cleaning it work and the 1148 code is something else

    Hello I checked the solenoid valve connector harness and it's only reading 5-7 volts, is that the reason I'm getting the code P1400 and what is the fix to this problem? Could it be Evap control pressure sensor causing this because, my mechanic wants me to buy that part next he says that's why it's reading code P1447. I also get code P0446 but mechanic already replaced Evap canister and Evap canister control valve, I'm still getting that code P0446 though. Got to pass emissions this month or I will be walking. I hate living in Ga

    Now I got p1130 swirl control... Do you have any experience with this?... The Internet has provided a little insight, but I'm hoping your expertise can guide me a little better... I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima, looks like the Max you work on...

    Hi. I really need your help. My car is also coming up with code p1400. We did everything you did on the video. The code p1400, just keeps coming back hours later or the next day. . By the way we do have a code reader , the one who knows how to use it is my husband after I replaced egrc solenoid he cleared the code... Egr solenoid has been replaced there is that click (the one with the green connector) volt test 12.
    Car is a 1996 nissan maxima gle. Emissions test failed (Illinois) ( code p1400) a month ago and we still can't get that code from popping back up, other 2 codes that had popped up along with p1400 stopped showing up which was knock sensor and the sensor by charcoal filled canister in the rear also changed that charcoal filled canister. Now obviously with the check engine still on emissions will be a fail and therefore we can't drive vehicle around. I'm trying to fix the problem ourselves cuz man around here everyone wants 1200 to fix a maybe simple fix.
    Can you please help, oh and also we checked every fuse all are fine. I looked at the fuse square by driver side under steering and also under hood left side near where the battery is. As far as those relay boxes well have no idea. Is there another fuse block or square that maybe we are missing.? Anyway hope to read from you soon. Thanks love your videos and the way you explain :))

    not all solenoid clicks so you really cant go by that only. Check ohms should be around 35 ohms ish, then give it power like you did but start the car if the idle gets rough then the solenoid is working, also you just verified the egr valve also working good.

    Answer: None! There are NO Silenoids in a car, but there is at least one Solenoid - the Starter Solenoid for one. [laugh] The EGR Solenoid is another.

  • @irgski

    You really didn't check the GND connection to the solenoid. You just verified that it was getting 12V.Maybe use the OHMs setting to verify that the solenoid GND pin connection is good.
