As an American, I am enthralled by British culture. In America, we don't "value", nor show our politicians, the same respect that people worldwide show Her Majesty. God Save The Queen!
The queen is not a politician she is a monarch, she doesn’t rule she reigns, she doesn’t govern she is sovereign. We don’t need to respect politicians in America if they don’t deserve them. The queen on the other hand is human yet touched by divinity
@Janet Johnson no one said anything about her not having class - it's just the difference in what we would call a garden. it just sounds funny (no disrespect) the word backyard when referring to the queens garden because a backyard sounds like a small patch of grass with a fence and maybe a swingset if its big enough lol
Queen Elizabeth ll is a shining example of duty, loyalty and honour. She is truly a wonderful amazing woman, who has withstood many storms and dangers with class, elegance and a deep, abiding love for her country and her people. She’s not always on the mark and occasionally gets a little lost in the way things were done in the past which can create issues with her subjects but when you have lived as long as she has, this is bound to happen. She DOES try to stay current, and I honestly adore her for it and I for one cannot imagine the world without her in it. God bless Queen Elizabeth.

Americans! she closes the door which is his job as the greeter, and then gives him a arm hug, normally reserved for family or close friends not an employee. Her silly question, it got a little crazy?? cringe
Donna Jackson That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm European as well. I think Americans just let loose more. And that can be a good thing sometimes. Many people say that the British are cold though. I think Katie Couric was a little nervous, but also purposefully trying to bring in some laid back Americana to the butler, the whole thing. I think she was nervous and a little overwhelmed by the grandeur and pomp of the place. Americans are also not used to seeing castles and old well furnished buildings like this one. Europeans see old fashioned architecture everyday. For Americans, it's something new and exciting, almost intimidating-also a right of passage. "They been to Europe.." How many Europeans on the other hand over glorify the U.S. and everything about it?!!! Many, very many. Even one's who don't want to admit it. Each one wants something they don't have....rather than being content with where they are. Also wanted to say that in the summer the West is filled with Europeans from all over coming to see the American landscape. It's amazing...also because they don't have to pay in euros ; ). That's what a lady from Switzerland told me.
+ellamae yeah I'm an American myself we have dollars instead of euros. Also our country has a beautiful landscape here in America one of those places we have is the Grand Canyon in which I've been there myself. Plus I am an American military brat so I have gone to and seen about 36 of the US states. And I've lived in America for most of my life since I was born in Japan due to my father being in the military. But when your in our country you would defiantly see most Americans have different accents throughout the entire country depending on where you are in the United States. The New England states has a different accent than the people in New York City and in the Southern United States has a totally different accent than the people in Chicago. I've lived in four of the 36 states I've been to which are Virginia, North Carolina, Arizona, and California. I live in Virginia today about one hour drive south of Washington, DC. I actually live in the area where our first president George Washington had grew up mainly where I live we have Washington's childhood home and Washington got the stones that he brought to DC to build the two most famous buildings in our capital which is the White House and the Capital Building that to is located right near my house today.
+SyndexAwesome I see your point in general. But not here, boy! I mean she did quite a good job, didn't she? Very kind, sympathic, modest... Sure a certain shiness and insecurity here and there, but hell, how would you feel being about to met the longest serving monarch on the planet?! Also acting cheesy isn't just an American media phenomenon, its a "media-phenomenon". And since you're kind of talking down from your high horse here, I think its no secret that especially the British press is one of the most aggressive and hysteric once in the world. So yes, American mentality and with that its media tends to hysteria, but speaking as a "foreign observer" here don't necessarily make the mistake to think the British does not at all!
