    John Tenta used to talk to fans like me on an old wrestling message board during his battle with cancer. He was very humble, polite, smart, funny, and generous with his time. A consummate gentleman. It was surreal to remember being a child and believing he broke Hulk Hogan's ribs, to being able to communicate with him directly in the twilight of his life when I was in my mid 20's. I shed a few tears when he passed. RIP.

    Still kinda astonishes me that in 1990 Earthquake was 27 years old

    • @duffman18
      @duffman18 4 роки тому +2

      Yeah it makes me feel old af when I look at the attitude era for example, and I always thought of the Undertaker round then as a really old dude. But I'm older now than he was then. He was only in his 30s. In 1995 the undertaker was 30. That's just insane to me. I'm such an old git now.
      And yeah Earthquake looked a lot older than he was. The receding hairline was part of it but even if he had a full head of hair, he looked like a big old nasty bastard. He was so good at his craft. Because in real life he was by all accounts one of the absolute nicest guys in the business, almost too nice. He could fuck you up if he wanted, in a legit shoot fight. But he didn't, cos he was a nice guy. Reminds me of Andre. So the fact he seemed so big and nasty is a testament to how good he was at pro wrestling both in and out of the ring.
      Tenta was big on family too, he was apparently the best dad in the world. One of his kids a few months back posted some family photos to Reddit and did a kind of Ask Me Anything thread. And his kid talked about how lovely of a dad he was. Never afraid to show emotion and tell them he loves them. A real man. Taken from the world far too soon.

    Being 13 years old at the time of Golgas debut, I had no idea it was Earthquake. Should've known growing up on WWF.

      I wasn't aware either, but I don't see how anyone could've guessed he was Golga. He lost a significant amount of weight, cut his hair, wore a mask, and didn't ever do promos so we could hear his voice.

    Definitely one of the most underrated and under dicussed big men and in general pro-wrestlers of all time. 1:19:27 John Tenta's tiger tattoo. Tenta himself wrote on a message board that the tattoo was in honor of the LSU mascot. Tenta attended college at LSU. Tenta further wrote that while he thought the Shark character in WCW was stupid, it didn't make any sense to have a tiger tattoo with a shark gimmick. Tenta wanted to do his best to make the character work, so he had the tiger tattoo covered up with a shark tattoo instead.

Earthquake threw Hogan outside of the ring & Stupid Me (I was 12) I went Under the Barricade & "Punched/Jabbed" Hogan in Ribs told him to get up and go Kill Earthquake, Hogan's face was was like "WTF BROTHER" a big ass Security Guard picked me up like a Spider with one hand and was gonna escort me out of the building but a TON of Fans started Booing & Throwing thing's into our direction so another Security guy (Probably the Head Dude) said something to the guard that plucked me off Hogan and said "YOU SIT DOWN IN YOUR SEAT AND DONT FUCKIN MOVE OR YOU ARE FUCKING OUT OF HERE, GOT IT" I just shook my Head "Yes" so I behaved for rest of show. EARTHQUAKE Defeated HULK HOGAN that Night... I miss the old WWF days. My Fav Wrestling Era was (1985 - 1992) and the Attitude Era (1997 - 2001).

    Great episode. John Tenta was great. Only Tenta could have enough heel heat to turn a snake babyface.

      To get rid of ads play the video for 10 seconds, then with your finger slide to a couple seconds before the video ends. Then go back to the where you skipped and the ads will be gone.

    Love the Biography episodes I wish they did more of em. Not a huge fan of the shows that cover events. I wish they did less of those.

    It's kinda sad how Bruce still can't get over 'Billonaire Ted' and his greener pastures.
    Looking at his current employers track record in the 1980's he really shouldn't utter a peep.
