John Tenta used to talk to fans like me on an old wrestling message board during his battle with cancer. He was very humble, polite, smart, funny, and generous with his time. A consummate gentleman. It was surreal to remember being a child and believing he broke Hulk Hogan's ribs, to being able to communicate with him directly in the twilight of his life when I was in my mid 20's. I shed a few tears when he passed. RIP.
Yeah it makes me feel old af when I look at the attitude era for example, and I always thought of the Undertaker round then as a really old dude. But I'm older now than he was then. He was only in his 30s. In 1995 the undertaker was 30. That's just insane to me. I'm such an old git now. And yeah Earthquake looked a lot older than he was. The receding hairline was part of it but even if he had a full head of hair, he looked like a big old nasty bastard. He was so good at his craft. Because in real life he was by all accounts one of the absolute nicest guys in the business, almost too nice. He could fuck you up if he wanted, in a legit shoot fight. But he didn't, cos he was a nice guy. Reminds me of Andre. So the fact he seemed so big and nasty is a testament to how good he was at pro wrestling both in and out of the ring. Tenta was big on family too, he was apparently the best dad in the world. One of his kids a few months back posted some family photos to Reddit and did a kind of Ask Me Anything thread. And his kid talked about how lovely of a dad he was. Never afraid to show emotion and tell them he loves them. A real man. Taken from the world far too soon.
Being 13 years old at the time of Golgas debut, I had no idea it was Earthquake. Should've known growing up on WWF. Great to see Quake get some love here. Bret Hart said nice things about him in his book.
I wasn't aware either, but I don't see how anyone could've guessed he was Golga. He lost a significant amount of weight, cut his hair, wore a mask, and didn't ever do promos so we could hear his voice.
EARTHQUAKE!!!!!!!!!!! Hell Yeah!!! This is what I'm talking about. Earthquake in his prime was an absolute monster. The "squashing Hulk's ribs" angle was legendary.
Definitely one of the most underrated and under dicussed big men and in general pro-wrestlers of all time. He was a 400+ pound powerhouse but can throw awesome dropkicks and move like someone half his weight. He had such great ring presence and was just a likeable guy. I always loved when he would jump in the ring and make the ref bounce of their feet. True legend. RIP
I know his run was short, but I could listen to Quake stories all day. Thank you for finally giving him an episode. And it's nice to hear he was one of the good ones.

1:19:27 John Tenta's tiger tattoo. Tenta himself wrote on a message board that the tattoo was in honor of the LSU mascot. Tenta attended college at LSU. Tenta wanted to do his best to make the character work, so he had the tiger tattoo covered up with a shark tattoo instead.
Great episode. Earthquake and I share the same birthday. The Lumberjack gimmick sounds interesting because if you went that route he straight up would have been Bear Hugger from Super Punch Out.
I fast forward the episode to the end, wait for that add to play out, hit the replay episode or refresh arrow in the center of the screen and then you can watch it add free.
This was a great episode. John might have not had long first run as the Earthquake but he made the most of his time there. It felt like his first run was 5 years. When Conrad said it was only 3 1/2 years, I was like no way. You have to be kidding me. It honestly didnt feel like he was there from 89-93. He accomplished a lot. Awesome look back at Earthquake.

@@Dizzy1980 I agree. Will C , don't think you should have known.
@Will C No, he didn't use it as Golga.
@Big Boss Somebody is going to have to show me a video of Golga doing the Earthquake splash, because I don't remember him using it.
Earthquake deserves a longer show
Yeah Bruce is pretty busy these days
Earthquake sticks with me. Everything about him scared me as a kid. His look, his size, his threatening promos. I didn't there any one could beat him.

I loved when he did his “tremors” before doing the Earthquake Splash
What about the face off between quake and yoko at the 93 rumble?
Earthquake as part of the Hart Foundation 97 would have been intriguing 💀💜💀💜

Its great to have decent character episode, and NO F***ing Hornswoggle dosn't count.!!!

He could have billed himself as Tiger Shark.
That's exactly what I thought as soon as the show said he went to LSU.
They way Conrad admires Earthquake makes this one of my favorites. It's nice to hear Big Mamma happy! :)
Earthquake is the very first wrestler I heard giving a shoot interview (maybe not a formal interview, but still) way back in 2000 or 2001.
Bruce nailed it. John Tenta could move. If you want to see a great disparity in the speed of two big men, watch Earthquake vs. Bastion Booger.
Love John Tenta 🙏🏼❤️ RIP
Gentleman Jonathan Sayers only worked in Winnipeg and Vancouver, he retired after All-Star Wrestling in Vancouver folded.
It was so close, but I wish they'd talk about Uncle Fred instead so I can hear Bruce's take on... well, you know🔥🚪🏃♂️

I would love to hear his take on the ShockMaster Sabotage

Great episode. Earthquake and I share the same birthday. The Lumberjack gimmick sounds interesting because if you went that route he straight up would have been Bear Hugger from Super Punch Out.
Earthquake should be a person or subject that Bruce is well versed about. Hope to also hear about the pairing with Tugboat as well.
I loved Earthquake's feud with Hogan. They had such great chemistry.
Congrats on getting the promotion, Bruce!
Remember the promos and the feud with Hogan he was a great heel and a tremendous character
Love this podcast but it's become nearly unwatchable with the ridiculous amount of ads. 19 ads in 87 minutes is pretty absurd.

It's like we're listening to advertisements with a podcast in between
Then download it or press skip ad. We're lucky Bruce is still even doing this
Then skip through them.

LMAO!! I remember when he cut to Sean Mooney before the impact of the Earthquake Splash.

Wasn't the tiger tattoo a nod to his LSU alma mater?
i liked earthquake as a heel. they should have beaten lod for the tag belts
