    Excellent review and really , tutorial also . Using the Ferro rod up close in the manner that you demonstrated isn't something I would have thought of . Thank you for such a well thought out and well done video .

    Thank you for the review. I was going to order one of these but I don't think they have any better spark throwing ability than some of the cheaper ones I have. I appreciate you saving me the money!

    I have been hearing very good things about this company. They are serious about the quality of their brand.

    • @CoachHelder
      @CoachHelder  6 років тому +1

      I agree with that, Mark.
      I have reviewed a few of their products over the years and was impressed each time. Their customer support has been, top notch, in my experience.
      Hopefully they will continue to grow, while maintaining quality. From what I see... That is certainly their goal.
      Thanks for sharing your info with us.

    Just received this Fire starter and the lacquer is a bit of a pain of the ass to get off but once you do it is an excellent ferro rod. Looking forward to starting many wood stove fires and campfires as well with it.

    Can the ferro rod be replaced in the wooden housing?
    Also, I see that you're using a Solo stove. Any idea how that compares to say an Emberlit or Bushbox stove? Thanks!

    • @CoachHelder
      @CoachHelder  8 років тому +3

      Hello Jerry, the rod cannot be removed. As far as the Solo Stove, I haven't tested the Emberlit nor the Bushbox stove so I cannot give you my opinion. I have done reviews on the Solo Stove Titan & Lite models which are found in this channel if you are interested.
      Thanks for commenting & have a great day.

    Any flat edge striker is going to cut into your finger after a given period of time if your just trying to light tinder alone.
    If your going to use this type of striker, cover it with some hemp-wick. You'll save your finger and have something to burn slow.

    "uberleben" branded Chinese rod from eBay. You can get it for $5 -$7. Doesn't mean it doesn't work as you can see. Great review!

    • @CoachHelder

      Thanks for the heads up, Ivan.
      I reviewed this rod over 4 years ago and at the time, Uberleben was the only game in town. I guess this model did quite well since similar versions started popping up all over the place.
      Thanks for the info; I'm sure that many on here will be interested in knowing that there are options available.
      Thanks again and than you for your support. It is appreciated!

    Hit that one with some hemp twine. Better than paracord (for starting fires at least)unless you’ve got that fire paracord but I don’t think it takes a spark well 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Hi there. What else do you carry in your fire starting kit? :)

    • @CoachHelder
      @CoachHelder  4 роки тому

      Hello Veda, I have various fire starters; since every gadget seems to have a ferro rod attached to it these days. ;-)
      But I do keep my trusty cotton balls, that have been heated and combined with Vaseline, as fire starters. They have served me well for years in various climates and scenarios.
      How about you? What is your go-to item in your fire-starter kit?

      Are you using the beveled or 90 degree edge to strike? I never had an issue with the striker. I wonder if the manufacturer changed their specs?
