I'm less than a year younger than him and I still have all my hair and barely any gray at the age of 39. It feels weird to say as a woman that I loved watching Married with Children as a kid. People say this is a misogynist show but I felt like it was a show that showed that even “losers” can be heroes. Always loved Al Bundy as a father because regardless of his crass jokes, he still cares for his family. Plus all the witty jokes makes the show funny. Even if they got rid of the live audience. I can see myself laughing anyway.
The main lesson of the show was that Al was largely responsible for his miserable life. That includes his attitude to women resulting in a disfunctional marriage. He treated women like a decoration and he ended up with an attractive woman that spends most of her time on a couch. He does not appreciate her for there is not much else about her other then her beauty. People just can't recognize the irony.
His character was a bit crass I thought, but at least back then you could say "man" or "woman" and everyone know what you meant. Some people nowadays can't even say what a woman is. Amazing.

Maybe Amanda and Ed had a feud, but they had chemistry. You can see in many scenes that Amanda is really struggling to not crack up at Ed, whether is something she says or an Al's insult.
