All 4 main characters improved greatly over the seasons and peaked imo between seasons 4-6. They crafted their personalities and voices to perfection. Especially Peg and Bud.
I watched a ton of MWC when I was young and my favorite episodes were always the mid to later season episodes - I think they really came into their own. Childish Al Bundy was the best Al Bundy.
The first season had completely different energy than the following ones. I much prefer the later ones. In the first season, Al and Peg were much more normal and more affectionate towards each other.

Once the writers and actors on this show got comfortable with the level of craziness they could show without repercussions, they took it up a notch.
