P.S. This album was different frsure, filled with some very standout bops and deep lyrics a la Mitski style, yet brought new elements that I appreciate. It doesn’t surpass “Be the Cowboy” for me, but I’ll definitely still have this on rotation for a hot sec LOL
Thank you for a great reaction at the top of your 10k milestone!!!! 🥳🥳🥳 A million congratulations, and cheers to further success!!!!😘😘😘😘😘😘
The songs I love i LOOOOOOVEEEEEE, I think they're all my favourite by her hahaha, but overall I need to relisten to them to find my favourite OVERALLLLL
Thank you so so so so so much! Couldn't do it without you!!!!
in my opinion, laurel hell is about mitski’s personal relationship with music. the term laurel hell refers to a thick flower bush that grow so dense that impossible to pass. it’s a metaphor in which she struggle for identity and happiness when she goes into music. in track working for the knife, it’s about the work culture just makes us all depressed, the knife is the work culture in which we dug ourselves in deeper and seemingly inescapable at this point. love me more reflects on her past choice that leads her to become an artist and when she’s begging repeatedly to love me more, it just to emphasize how isolated she really is
agree 100%
this is perfection! agree!
From a Pitchfork article on the album:
“‘Laurel Hell’ is a term from the Southern Appalachians in the U.S., where laurel bushes basically grow in these dense thickets, and they grow really wide,” Mitski also explained in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “And, I mean, I’ve never experienced it myself, but when you get stuck in these thickets, you can’t get out. Or so the story goes. And so there are a lot of Laurel Hells in America, in the South, where they’re named after the people who died within them because they were stuck. And, so the thing is, laurel flowers are so pretty. They just burst into these explosions of just beauty. And, I just, I liked the notion of being stuck inside this explosion of flowers and perhaps even dying within one of them.”
LOVEEEEEEEEEEE!
In addition to the literal "laurel hell", "laurel" also means any kind of glory or honor. All of the "laurels" put on her by the public caused her to become reclusive, and certainly in a personal kind of hell
omg love this
this album got me crying and dancing at the same time😭 also congrats on 10k!!
hahaha legit that vibe
THANK YOU!!!!!
After listening to “There’s nothing left here for you” I felt that it could have been a representation of her stardom. She feels as if it’s passed her by. There’s always going to be someone famous and it was passed onto her long ago and now it’s being passed onto a new girl
Omg 😭😭😭😭😭
I love that her songs are short and to the point and I just listen again because it’s just that good!
This is literally one of the best albums ever. She literally served so much
period
This album is one of my faves from mitski by far, lyrics are just so evocative i cried 10 times listening to the album, but also was dancing non stop. Its so fucking good
YASSSSSS
Please Ben I beg you to react to Black Country, New Road's two albums For the First Time and Ants From Up There. Their debut is amazing but their latest album is... I would say one of the best albums of not only this decade but the 21st Century.
Yep, it's on my list, everyone is telling me to get onto it. I AM KEEN!!!
Besides Mitski, there is another alternative artist dropped today too! It's Yeule with their sophomore album "Glitch Princess" and it's sounds so good! Please react to it! ❤

i have literally listened to heat lightning a billion times my god
@@bennshouts is so good omg the buildup is firee
Same!
mitskis music explains her work feelings and feelings out of work feelings its really nice tbh.
I'm so unbelievably unprepared for this holy SHIT.
HEHEHE
React to SAOKO from ROSALIA please😭🛐
The new BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD record that dropped today is a must listen! An instant classic and probably AOTY!
yessss, it's on my list
@@bennshouts fantastic! looking forward to it :)
for me the singles aged so well that i know is going to be the same with the rest
I loved Stay Soft, but it's so interesting to see you say that you didn't find Stay Soft all that special right after Working For the Knife which I interpret as her feeling at the mercy of the industry and capitalism and not doing what she really wants to do. Just an interesting parallel. Loved watching all your album reactions!
Its funny how songs sit differently with people hey! Thank you though 💕💕💕
it's not my fav mitski album either but i still like it
This is my request for a reaction to Flume - Say Nothing (feat. MAY-A) 😅
I love your reaction ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Pls react to the new single by ROSALIA ‘Saoko’ 🥺💕
Yesssss, can't wait to hear it!
PLS REACT TO TOMMY GENESIS
in my opinion the hell she's referring to is the feeling you have once you just broke up with someone you loved more than your own life (mitski here is talking about music and how it seems hard to keep going, but y'all can take it as a breakup). the fact that's the tempo is constantly changing during the album is for me a way to show how not emotionaly stable you are after that someone just went out of your life. personally, should've been me and there's nothing left for you are the ones hitting the most cause they're really relatable, but tbh her whole album is relatable asf anyway.
finally, i guess love me more is about not making the same mistakes again reaching for others attention and affection and maybe just loving yourself first (she could be talking to herself then). i like to see it that way cause it's more logical according to the others songs of the album or just the song order.
anyway, laurel hell is one of my favorite mitski's album so far because of the production and the messages that she transmits with her lyrics or just maybe the vibe idk
REACT TO SAOKO PLZZZ
i just found out but the only heartbreaker is one of Obama's top songs in 2021😭
omg YES!!!
Laurel is acutually a plant full of vains which the Appalachians used to fear because people actually died trapped inside of them.
love it haha
I interpret "should've been me" as someone blaming themselves for their partner cheating on them
Oh wow :(
You look like you’d call me the f-slur but i’m glad you react to mitski
jesus hahahah omg
@@bennshouts you replied 💥❤️
@@junedanieltamor9071 of course 💕💕
react to saokoooooooo
mitski’s discography is so amazing !! she’s so underrated and people need to find out about her ASAP
LITERALLY!
Please consider listening to the new Black Country, New Road album, “Ants From Up There.” A masterful body work. ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!!!!
YEP! It's on my list
