Watercress Line - 'Autumn Steam Gala' 19/10/2018

One last end of season hurrah for the Mid-Hants Railway 'Watercress Line', before the approaching Winter down-time reduces services to a crawl, sees them hold their annual 'Autumn Steam Gala' over the weekend of Friday 19th - Sunday 21st of October.
The event ran with a strong Western theme, with two of the three visiting engines being from the Great Western Railway stables; 5199 and 7822 "Foxcote Manor". Standard Tank 80078 completed the line up of visiting locomotives, making a return visit to 'the Alps'. Besides three members of the home fleet also in service, recently withdrawn Ex-LMS 'Black 5' Class 5MT - 45379 was on display in the car park at Alresford.
Frequent passenger services operating the full line length between Alresford and Alton were complimented by the inclusion of a shuttle service between Alresford and Ropley. A singular return service of the Demonstration Freight set could also be seen over the course of the day.

Thank you very much! The Mid-Hants Railway is quite restricted in terms of locations for filming, especially during a gala where station access at Ropley is limited without a ticket, so it was very much an attempt of making the best of it. I'm glad you feel it's paid off. I wasn't sure about including the light engine movement shot - I ended up including it for continuity sake, and to break up two very similar shots, but ultimately I was pleased with the result. Thank you.

As per every preserved railway, the Watercress Line is limited to 25mph over the line. I'd recommend Northside Crossing (www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.086023,-1.1208114,38m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en) for close shots of the engines - also better for audio. Hampshire Hunt bridge is the only realistic location for shots between Medstead and Alton (www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.1181612,-1.0299885,76m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en).
