  • I wanted a camouflage tent but everything I found was cheap looking thin tents so I decided to just make my own out of heavy Real Tree Hardwoods material. It's eight feet long but can be bunched up for a shorter length and the bonus to that is when bunched up it breaks up the smooth surface of the tent further enhancing the camouflage effect. We also cook up some conecuh sausage, eggs and coffee

Nick is lucky to have such a cool dad to do adventure outings with. My dad was a cool outdoorsman, and he & I did all kinds of camping and fishing together. I was 30 when I lost my dad. I am 50 now & can't believe it's been 20 years he has been gone. Now, I do everything in the outdoors alone. Great video Dave.

Hey , glad to see you're up and kickin' around in the woods. Man I found a really great deal . I went to Goodwill looking for a small grill and some small stainless steel pots for making charcoal . Well low and behold , sitting on a rack were two digital woodland pattern camo sleeping bags , light weight , for $5 each . So I grabbed them , for use to lay on the ground when deer hunting . Well I got home , looked at them and they were in new shape , no tears , no stains , no worn out areas , zippers are good , no discoloring and no odors . Next I looked them up on the internet and they are made by Wiggy's . Turns out they are each $250.00 super light zero degree mummy bags with a boat foot instead of a box foot . They weigh 4 pounds each , which most goose down bags rated for zero degrees weigh or close to it . The bag has a draw string for adjusting the hood and chest area and a tube that runs along the zipper to keep out drafts . REAL GOOD Quality Zippers that work very smoothly . I came across a fantastic deal . I have no doubt that i could put one inside the other and be comfortable in 30 below temps . I washed them and slept in one in 48 degrees , I sweated . Wiggy's has this bag on sale . I think they are a very good quality . Wiggy's also has a system for adding a over bag system , like a ground bivy setup which , when added , will handle temps lower than zero, They also have some light weight gear that can be used in the artic and they also make gear for special forces . They have been in business for over 30 years and I can't believe I've never herd of them , you learn something new everyday . . Check them out , I'm tuning back to watching the video . Hand Salute

At 13:22 , looking at the tent I noticed it blended in very well . You could use those loops for adding limbs and foliage . Loops on the inside can be used to run some cordage from the ridge line areas to the ground and tied to a stake to add support so it doesn't sag as much from rain and wind , like a frame . The loops on top will also keep the tarp from blowing upwards and you could run a couple of lines on the outside from ridge line to ground. i use 4 ridge lines , one for the top of the tarp and three inside for hanging things . I use half hitches on each end by the tree to draw the lines together to make it more like one line , then add the other lines . It really helps in draining water and helps with sagging . It's just a frame made from rope and stakes and I can use sticks on the inside for additional support . Oh those thingys for women's hair are called hair bands , they are useful and useless , as they wear out and break and don't last long . Later gator , Hand Salute

I had a several sentences in a comment last night for this video. Got so tired I forgot to click the "Comment" button. Most of the comments related to something your were doing during the video. Shortly thereafter you commented the same thing I had written. It was rather amazing...great minds, etc. The one comment I made that you didn't follow up was that you should have left an airgap at the end of the pit to allow more air under the pan. I greatly enjoyed the video, got me to thinking of things I don't normally think about and you help me enjoy life. Just finished up a 12 year project today. Started 12 years ago, got 98% complete and then tried several times to complete it but my wife had other things that were higher priority. Finished them almost in time for her birthday. Good morning Ruth and I'm glad you liked it! I think for true stealth you also have to design in a weird shape to cover the outline/shape of the tent. Here, I made mine very long with extra loops so I can either bunch it up of used multiple sideways ridge lines to break up the weird shape. It would be cool to put your future tent on video!

When you wrapped that tent around yourself as an extra layer I said to myself "yep, this is going to be a good one." That's a very clever design and I agree, adding some loops to pull out the sides would be great, especially if the wind picked up even more or it started raining. The overhang/porch is great too. I'm curious what you use to keep the seams water tight or if maybe that's not a concern with this material. Thanks as always.

Fine video Dave and Nick. Dave, you mentioned putting loops on the outdoor side of the tent. Those side loops would provide tie off points to give greater area inside the tent. Also, manipulating cordage through the outside loops would provide a means to stack brush and limbs for even more "camo effect". You really have a gift for making good camping gear. Someone needs to hire you as a consultant and spokesperson for a camping gear company. It is also great to see a father and son have fun together. GOD bless you both.
