All the best, from Romania!
Jules: "Where we going?"
Floor and Tuomas: "Wherever we want to take you!"
The composer is the keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen aka the Metal Mozart and he uses the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Greetings.
The keyboard player, founder, and writer of the band is Tuomas Holopainen.
He composes the music as well as the lyrics.
Tuomas used the London Philharmonic Orchestra (under Pip Williams), London's The Metro Voices, and Young Musicians Children's Choir as regular partners from 1997 to 2019.
As far as I know, in the Human :II: Nature album 2020, he used another orchestral institution for those parts.
As far as the choirs?
They might still be the same.😊
When Tuomas went to Angel Studios, London, he went there to watch.
He says he "just gives Pip a demo of the songs and let him do his magic. It has always been this way but it is impressive every single time."
😊❤️🤘🤘
If you REALLY want to be blown completely away, I’d recommend “The Greatest Show on Earth” live (I prefer the Tampere version but they’re both spectacular). A caveat: find one with the lyrics and spend 2 minutes to understand what it’s about so you understand the scale of what they are trying to accomplish musically (it’s about the birth of the solar system and the evolution of life on earth). It is a long, staggering accomplishment which is musically, intellectually, and emotionally overwhelming. Final note: watch to the very end. Welcome to the Nightwish army.
In addition to the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir are also used by the Metal Mozart Tuomas. 😄🤘
The music was composed by Tuomas Holopainen and arranged for the orchestra by Pip Williams. He's retired so the latest albums are no longer arranged by him. The background also contains recording of live human choir and some songs use children's choir in the background.
The Valkyrie Goddess strikes again! I love Nightwish… Thanks for this reaction 😊
The studio recording did not have Annette singing in the mid. Chorus, Floor wanted to add her vocals on stage to it .
It was done by a choir on the album and they also used the backingtrack on stage with Annette,
but when Floor came to the resque, she told them that they could skip that part because she would sing it live.
Who has bigger balls Chuck Norris or Floor Jansen?
The simple answer to "who arranges the orchestral parts" is Pip Williams, from Tuomas' demos; but he's said in interview that his role changed over time. At the start he was having to guide Tuomas a lot - "remember the oboist needs to breathe" sort of thing - but as Tuomas learned more about writing for orchestra, the amount of work Pip had to do shrank a lot. As for _Storytime,_ it's one of the songs I simply can't stay still for. It gets me dancing every time!
You don't NEED to follow the list, please pick ANY song, I bet you'll be amazed every time! Nightwish is fire bro 😁
Makes it more interesting for us too.
I agree with this comment, but do have one amendment to suggest. Pick any song in any order, but do use the links that Gabriel provides when possible, since those are usually the best audio and video quality for a given performance. You might also want to get more familiar with the band before tackling a song like The Poet and the Pendulum. Although not strictly necessary, doing some research on that song can help make the impact of hearing it that much better and more meaningful.
the list is a guideline... not a roadmap
🔥💯🔥
The orchestral instruments are from a backing track, but recorded using a real orchestra as well as the choruses.
The founder of NW and keyboardist Toumas Holopainen wrote this and arrenged the music with Pip Williams from the London Symph orchestral . Toumas write 96% of all music for NW . Greetings from nwAse Sweden
London Philharmonic Orchestra.
@@KristiinaBerg Thank you :-)
A real treat is Epica's Sancta Terra featuring Floor Jansen singing with Epica's diva, Simone. Live orchestra also

Mr. Human. . . . . . . . .
We might have told you already but it might help you to know Tuomas uses several pseudonyms to refer to himself in various Nightwish songs which he writes from experiences, observation or imagination, he says he is a man with a boy's heart, a grown-up Peter Pan, and you will see that directly in places even, when he uses boy narrators sometimes in place of himself. Digging into his lyrics is almost a second bite of the cherry.
He will also use poet, dreamer, writer/song writer or ocean soul - Tuomas has an affinity for the ocean, he wanted to become a marine biologist; keep all this in mind for later, it will help.
So here, "A writer by a fire. . . . . ." Tuomas is speaking to you directly, he is the story-teller, the “writer by the fire” - "Took a journey into a child-man’s heart" would be Tuomas remembering the childhood stories, the Peter Pan escapades of his imagination and fascinations, but the boy has grown up from being a Peter-Pan, the crib is empty.
I am:
the voice of Never-Never land, the empty crib, the journey, the destination, the home, Tuomas says, he's taking you back to his childhood fascinations.
Floor sings the bridge "Neverland, innocence, dreams of every man. . . . . ." in a high operatic head voice, a pitch you might expect from a very excited small boy.
Now, go look at all the lyrics and the references to the childhood classic stories and it all drops into place; it's one of the songs where it is easy to dig inside Tuomas' metaphoric lyrics and unravel them.
Good stuff, you keep at it, Nightwish will not disappoint.
Floor is a 6’-1” Goddess. She definitely draws your attention!🤘🎸
Look for 'Beste zangers Floor Jansen' . That will give you an idea of what different styles Floor can sing. And enjoy the rest of your Nightwish journey.
Don't forget the conceptual continuity called Ayreon.
“Where we going?” - gets immediately blown away. Damn it was a nice watch.
Hello again Jules. Loving your Nightwish reactions. Floor is truly amazing as are the compositions by Tuomas Holopainen (keyboardist and Nightwish founder). You can't go wrong following Gabriel's list but feel free to jump around in it. You are in for such a fun ride. Thank you.
Floor Jansen One of the three best LIVE singers in the world Today.🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Who in your opinion are the other two.?
I'm very curious.
General Gabriel is an excellent advisor, but especially as a musician doing your own journey is also important
Welcome to the journey that is Nightwish and thank you for your reactions it's nice to be able to see the performance while still seeing your reaction
8:02 fun fact there is no singing in the original song. Floor decided to include that
8:02 And the cool part is that Floor just decided she can perform this part live when even the original album version (performed by previous singer Anette) didn't even have solo vocals here at all.
In the same vein, Floor nowadays performs Shoemaker live even though it took her originally three full days to get one successful take for the album.
Oboe? You may hear it if you check out, Yours Is An Empty Hope (LIVE IN MEXICO CITY) Pay close attention to Floor"s voice. Enjoy.
7:33 it's called Floorgasm
For fun , look at your Video starting at 6:38 for the "Time Traveller" . He's the odd man out in the hat and dress shirt . He doesn't belong in that crowd of 82,000 . LOL . When you get to Romanticide watch for Tuomas grabbing a swig from the wine bottle he keeps under the keyboards . Lots of cool stuff . Cheers .
Another musical composer genius you should check out the live performances of is Arjen Lucassen with his Ayreon project. (Only "The day that the world breaks down" is one where the music vid is better)
If you want to hear Floor doing amazing switching between operatic and other styles you should check out her older band - Revamp, sometime. For example song called “Wild Card” from Bloodstock festival (unfortunately audio quality on the recording is not great but it’s absolutely worth it imo). Another good one would be “Disdain” and “Precibus” but for this last one I don’t think there’s any even half decent live recording unfortunately.
One thing with Nigthwish: I have never (!) had a moment where I thought "Ok I have heard this before"... Every songs is different, and even within every song there always is an element of surprise or an unexpected switchup, etc.
Nightwish-devil deep dark...the best song..
More Nightwish Please! *growling*
You should just run through this entire whack in 2013 live show. The show opener is called Dark Chest of Wonders. Many of the 82,000 in attendance would see Floor perform with Nightwish for the first time after replacing Annette.
Nightwish have had three lead singers and as Floor Jansen that's the singer know their all schooled sopranos.
So much more to experience Jules. Maybe take a short detour and check out a live double shot from 2022. From their most recent record and the openers from their most recent tour. I saw them for the first time on their US leg of the tour. One word - WOW! Only 9 minutes of intensity.

Enjoyed this so much!!
Great reaction!
Hope you'll enjoy the Nightwish and Floor journey
Pip Williams does some of the orchestral arrangements, working closely with Tuomas. They've worked together ever since Nightwish's Once album from 2004.
There's actually a behind the scenes video featuring the Orchestra/Choirs recording on Nightwish's UA-cam channel you may find interesting: ua-cam.com/video/HcxjKlUcjXo/v-deo.html
FLOORGASM ALERT !!!! , fantastic reaction, thanks
When you're looking at their song/show The Greatest show on earth, you should know it's about the birth of the earth, its evolution and goes in several chapters.
It's amazing.....
NIGHTWISH - The Greatest Show on Earth (with Richard Dawkins) (OFFICIAL LIVE)
It's based on The book 👇👇👇
The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution is a 2009 book by British biologist Richard Dawkins, which was released on 3 September 2009 in the UK and on 22 September 2009 in the US. It sets out the evidence for biological evolution, and is Dawkins's 10th book, following his best-selling critique of religion The God Delusion (2006) and The Ancestor's Tale (2004), which traces human ancestry back to the dawn of life.
I'm happy that I'm not the only one who hears echos of Carl Orff in Tuomas' compositions.
Thank you for a great reaction. Your channel name is kind of a funny coincidence as Nightwish have an album called Human Nature. My favourite Nightwish song is "Music" from that album. Follow Gabriel's list and eventually you will get there.
Greetings from Finland 🤘
Great reaction, thank you!
Nightwish army Denmark reporting in :)
Great reaction. Thanks for that. If I can suggest something - I think Greatest Show On Earth is down the Gabriel list, and I think it's one of the best when classic part is more important, so I'd suggest to move it up. Other than that, just enjoy the ride. Plenty of songs, and almost impossible to pick just one favourite. It switches every week or two for me, and sometimes I just go over old song and it comes back so strong... But for now, the new one (Perfume of the Timeless) and GSOE, just by a tiny margin over a ten more, perhaps :)
❣️
Storytime is from the 2011 Imaginaerum album, 2nd lead singer Anette Olzon era. GLS was original lead singer Tarja Turunen era (Once album 2004).
The operatic part near the end was done solely with the choir in the studio version, Anette has more of a pop/rock style, operatics aren't her forte. Floor is very good at the style, so she joined in with the choir. Tuomas(keyboards/primary songwriter and composer) likes themes of stories and childhood innocence, and is a fan of Disney and composer Hans Zimmer.
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done
Pausing in the middle of Floors vocals. At least wait to the end of the vocal sequence, then go back.
welcome to the rabbit hole called Nightwish
[IF IT IS NOT DUTCH ,IT AIN'T MUCH [ FLOOR JANSEN ]
Song of myself nrxt please.

Music has a flow to it, Ans when you stop or talk to much, You kill the flow... Kill The Flow, Kill The Music.. Shame on the mess.
