I spent most summers in the 70s and 80's on my parent's boat in Ramsgate Harbour. Wonderful days spent in the harbour, on the beach, in Pleasurama (if we had any money) and nights up the Royal Temple. It will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for this.
I was born in Ramsgate in 1939, went to Priory Road infants school, Christ Church junior school and Clarendon House grammar school. Did my nursing training from 1957 - 1961 in Ramsgate and Margate hospitals. We lived in a 12 roomed hpuse, originally a farm house I think, at 7 Albert Street, now a block of flats! I remember the old fish market and so many of the scenes shewn especially the huge amount of visitors in summer. Many thanks for such a great recording, so grateful to you Jeremy.
I flew freight from Manston in mid late seventies, stayed at the Hovertell..there was a tunnel under the road to a pub..left a guitar in the resident bar.I was always curious about the hotels survival . Great times, great people..cheers, Old Hercules pilot.
Absolutely brilliantly done video, love the old post cards, moved from Central London to Ramsgate about 25 years ago, lts one of the poorest and most deprived towns in the south east, but the locals are friendly & helpful, the beaches, harbour and architecture are beautiful and there are some magnificent white cliffs with wonderful Bays and Coves to visit nearby.
Wonderful piece of work. The varied architectural styles in Ramsgate meld well together and those who are visiting Ramsgate would do well to go on the costumed walks in the summer months. Also fab for residents!! Contact the local tourist office for details of what's on in Thanet. Recommend the Tunnels as a fascinating insight into how Ramsgate prepared for WW2.
Hi Jeremy, beautiful sceneries and the selected music makes one dream a lot with kind of melancholy and it makes me feel wanderlust for beautiful Kent! Also wonderful Margate makes me dream with the sight to the endless wide sea! 😍🧜🏼♀️⛱️🌊🛶⚓️🪼🪸🐚🦑 Thank you so much for sharing it!
No, I'm living in Wingham village at the moment. My son lives in Ramsgate. I used to live in Broadstairs many years ago and was a regular visitor, had some friends living there.
My grand parents lived off Victoria hill . I rather think if they could see the decline now they would be quite sad. Can’t understand why people don’t celebrate Pugin more too. Beautifully done
I remember a holiday there as a child in a guest house in Ramsgate in 1965 when I was 6 or 7 [t I do not remember the month we went, my birthday is July]. A year later we went to nearby Cliftonville where we stayed at Butlins. During my later childhood, adolescence and young adulthood Thanet was a frequent day trip destination but I did not have another holiday in the area until September 2016 when I stayed at an independent hotel between Cliftonville and Margate. It was disappointing that the Butlin's hotel had been demolished by then, it would have been nice to stay there again even under non-Butlins management. Another thing do you remember a large family restaurant called Harrisons at the north end of the Ramsgate promenade? Also a refreshment pavilion on St George's Green opposite the Butlins Hotel?
