Well done! Simple and functional. I use a Makita 2012NB Thickness Planer. I've been using it for over ten years and love it. Easy blade replacement and they are reversible. The price has gone up dramatically since I bought it. I bought it for around $430 and have seen it advertised recently for as much as $1k. I saw a video on the Oliver Thickness Planer. If I were in the market now, I would probably give it some consideration. It's about the same price as the Makita, but has the helical shearing cutterhead and other nice features.
Hello, yes I purchase my wood between the Woodsource in Manotick and KJP. I find the quality of selection at the Woodsource better than KJP. This is primarily due to KJP’s pallets of raw wood being picked through for the best pieces by customers. I do find that KJP has more exotic selection though and I love the fact that you can purchase tools as well.
I was looking at the Dewalt 735 as it has great reviews. I went with the Craftex because it was on sale and it looked identical to the Rikon. I love the thickness stop block. Thanks for sharing!
I new to this so me reading the prices my be off but went to homedepot for walnut. Is was expensive $9. Then went to hardwood store and paid $3 bf on walnut
You gotta find a hardwood distributor. They sell to dealers etc. they will let anyone set up account just tell them your a business. I set mine up so I just have a card on file with them instead of setting up credit with them: Instead of paying 8 bd ft for maple I pay 1.80. Not a typo cherry is the same. Even exotics are about 5 dollars cheaper. Walnut is about 15 though I find that cheaper creatively through private mills. Awesome board! Hope the information helps.
Walnut: 4/4 $11.85, 6/4 $12, 8/4 $12.75. Hard maple: 6/4 $5.65, 5/4 $6. All lumber 1st grade and rough. Culpeper, VA. ShopFox helical head 13" planer. Planes end grain just fine - glue a sacrificial board to the end to help prevent chip out or just plan on 1/16" to trim off when done planing. Try 100% tung oil instead of mineral oil. Much less maintenance, better finish (IMHO), but more expensive than mineral oil. Get your mineral oil from the pharmacy and NOT a woodworking store - exactly the same stuff but much much cheaper.
Nicely done
Thank you! Cheers!

Very nice buddy. Keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
What router bit did you use for the finger groove.. great job on this cutting board 👍🏻
Let me check the exact one I used.
Well done. Thanks for sharing your work.
You’re welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
How did you get the lighter and darker look out of the same boards?
That’s a great question, I wondered the same. Maybe it’s from alternating the pieces giving it a different angle for lighting would be my guess.
@@Toms_Woodworking_and_CarpentryBy alternating do you think he means rotating each piece by say 90 degrees? Thx!
Hi Tom, Have you tried KJP Hardwoods in Ottawa for your lumber? Awesome selection!

Subbed, out of Curran!
Welcome aboard! Thank you very much!
Is that Curran Ontario?
I am making a couple of boards next month. Thank you for inspiring me
I just released another video without music.
8/4 hard maple is running $7.50 bf here in McKinney, TX - near Dallas.
Thank you! I love Texas!
Dewalt 735 and I love it. I would have raised the grain after 180 grit. Then 220...but you know that.

Just purchased wood today, here in New Hampshire. Cherry was $7.50 BF, Hard Maple was $8.95 BF and Walnut was $14.45 BF.
Those are decent prices. What are you building?
@@Toms_Woodworking_and_CarpentryUSD prices I suspect

I need to make a 18x24 end grain, min 2'' thick for a customer and checked the price pbf a couple hours ago. Rock Maple 8/4 is $6 US. And that's CA.
Thank you for sharing, Is that expensive where you are? Cheers

I have the exact same tablesaw, do you like yours?
I am very satisfied with my saw. I originally wanted a Sawstop, but couldn’t afford it.

Thank you for the comment and excellent advice. I will look into the oil at the pharmacy as well. Cheers
Indiana $9.50 bf for Walnut and $5.50 bf for Maple. That's US
Great prices compared to Canada. Is that considered a good price in the US?
The music …. I gave my seat to somebody else .
Can’t take it . Good luck with your goal
Is the music too loud? Let me know so I can make improvements on my videos. Thank you
yes. It made hearing you quite difficult. It was an insightful video regardless. Thank you
@@Toms_Woodworking_and_Carpentry Not sure what these guys are talking about. I had no issues with and without the stable volume setting on.
@@IcanCwhatUsay thanks for the feedback. It’s difficult to please everyone. Cheers
