@@8020BIM Every time I start a new project I watch your "9 steps to setting up a good Revit model" tutorial. It would help me immensely if you someday would expand it to a series of books, "Best Practices Guide to Design/Build a small apartment building," "Best practices Guide to Design/Build custom residential projects," and so forth. I have watched at least a hundred Revit videos and gone through the Autodesk Certification course and I still really have no idea what I am doing. I still have my drafting table from 30 years ago when I was in trade school. I can churn out a complete set of prints by hand but I can't get even a simple building designed in Revit. I look forward to learning more from you in the near future.

Truth be told I had considered undertaking some deep dive courses to take people all the way from New beginners to producing infromation for different construction types but it would take 1000's of hours I currently don't have. I am very keen to produce a series similar to what you have suggested in the future. So, thanks for the validation that it is somerhing people would consider beneficial.

Great video as allways! If you can find some spare time, it would be great if you could make a video on how to do this for MEP elements as well. I can't seem to get changes to work. Like turning elbows into T's and add to the system (ducting and/or plumming).

Have you had any success yet with keeping the original rooms in the demolition stage when the new room looks different? when giving the demolition drawings to the contractor its nice with the old room names and number.
Hi Duane. No, element materials remain consistent across phases. The presentation of elements in existing Vs new phases are controlled by the phase filters alone, which can be edited from the phases dialogue in the Manage Tab. This means if you were to render your project all materials would present uniformly in spite of belonging to different phases of works.
Hey 8020 BIM, Thank you for your tutorials, very informative and you explain everything perfectly. This phasing has me stumped. I follow everything you say, but after setting up all 3 phases, when i draw a proposed wall in phase 1, it shows in the existing floor plan. Annoying to say the least. any light on this issue will help.

Hi Alma, thanks for the positive feedback. Unfortunately, you can't demolish "part" of something in Revit (with some exceptions such as structural opes being places loallly). You'll have to model the floor as two (or more) separate pieces, the piece(s) to remain and the piece(s) to be demolished. Then you demo the parts as needed. Hope you find this helpful, Niall
In what case the design option is used ? and in what case the phases is use ? they seem to have same function ! what is the difference between them please ?
Hi Amer. Design options are for exploring alternative designs within a single model file. Phases are pertinent to only the construction sequencing of the works as they would progress on site. I prefer the manual control of assigning the wall demolition to a known phase then to jsut use the hammer tool and have it removed from the working phase. Does that make sense at all Iftekhar? Regards Niall
@@iftekharkhan8879 yes, technically you are correct. The hammer tool works but I prefer the control of the manual assignment. Ultimately up to you to decide what work flow suits you best.
It is a message that Revit prompts to ask the user if they would like the walls to attach to a newly created floor. The majority of the time you should press no. Regards Niall

@@iftekharkhan8879 I genuinely could not answer this for you. There are many variables to consider. Truel I think to be proficient in BIM you need to have a detailed understanding of construction principles and detailing. In my experience most people can get qualified in BIM fields, but the high level BIM professionals come from construction design or management backgrounds and then learned BIM on the job. Best I can do to answer that question I am afraid but it might help you come to a conclusion. Good. Luck!

I have had no other comments regarding sound quality so it may have been YT steaming oddly as they tried regain full service. If you would like to try watch the video again I believe the audio interference should be resolved.
