@@Cyberweasel89 unga bunga was a family guy joke that became a fighting reference to Rushdown characters with an emphasis on melee attacks, it also has a connotation of being mindless despite being technical
I keep hearing him say a point and thinking "hey yeah, I agree with that!" And then realizing he's probably being sarcastic and subtly calling me a moron.
When Yoko Taro was told there was a ton of "Fan art" of 2B and asked how he felt about that. His response was basically(and yes I'm paraphrasing for comic effect but it's still true)"YOOOO that's dope send me that shit!"
As much as we joke, we’re all really happy to see you back. I’d rather have a video that took a year to make and is worth watching than a video that took two hours to make and isn’t.
I agree, with the exception of Neir: Automata. I felt he just kept ranting and I was confused on the ordering of this list. It seemed that Night in the Woods was higher but it wasn’t. Idk
Your ability to transition between games is honestly breath taking and it took me a while for me to realize you weren't talking about one game with a bunch of other games being used for meataphors
2 minutes in and you're already talking about games I've never heard of while using words I never heard of. If you're so smart, how come the video isn't 9 hours long? Hard pass.
"the original planned ending where the player squares off against a giant Ayumi Hamasaki in a singing competition to save humanity was rejected" I can't possibly overstate just how much I love that this isn't just a random joke. That's actually what happened
"I can directly relate to escaping what felt like a prison designed to drive me legitimately insane, only to find that my newfound freedom left me miserable and directionless with very little idea of what I could do to improve anything" god damn why'd that hit so hard
"The act of playing a game is a collaborate process between the developers and whoever happens to be playing it." is something that has been on my mind a lot lately. Thank you for putting it so eloquently.
The way you segue from one game to the next is literally so smooth that I had to remind myself you didn't just go on a 40 minute tangent during the very first game on your list. I swear sometimes I didn't register you were onto a new game and not just drawing a comparison for the previous one until you were halfway through the next. Bravo you buttery god.
Jeez we get it man, you really don't like 'Night in the woods' no need to slam the game into the dirt and call the developers racial slurs and shit throwing baboons, that's a little far man.
Watching this was like living through a fifty minute delirious fever-dream in which the laws of physics don't apply and the flashing colors are desperately trying to communicate something.
"Art dies in pursuit of itself" What a brilliant quote, it blows my mind that you made that up. Great job dude, insightful as always, and looking forward to your next vid

Im going to be honest with you, Nier: Automata is probably my favorite piece of sexy story telling so, Ill be EXTREMELY happy to see an Actual Review of Nier: Automata in about a year or two.

@@Josef_1186 no, that's a term pseudo-intellectuals use. It's meaning is a bullshit that somehow work of an artist is irrelevant to the artist himself. That on itself would be applicable if works of art were written by machines, not humans. It's impossible to discern author from his work cause his work is mostly his experience and ideas, not some irrelevant to him\her personally.
I honestly couldn't tell where one review ended and the next began without jumping back a couple times. It may be that I'm just too tired, but the whole experience left me with a impression like a weird, videogame-examining form of meditation, which was not at all dissuaded by the jojo credits. I think I'm going to need to go back and watch this a few times to understand all that happened here. In summary, I have no idea what just happened, but I honestly don't care. Confuse me, you strangely expressive owl.
Owen Peters yeah I have no idea either. If this is a a review or recommendation video, it fails miserably as it is completely incomprehensible. As an hour long poem, it’s transcendent.
Still absolutely love the fact that you don't realize that a transition happened until you are already 5 minutes into the next review. Keep your head up you owlegend.
What about Mister Caption. I must've watched/listened his Fallout 4 video like 8 times. Highly recommend that video. There is a reupload of it somewhere.
@@alilweeb7684 I've been following him for the past 3 years now, his videos are amazing, but nowhere near the level of pure perfection that this video has.
This was so well written that I can feel the care it was poured over with. Every barbed word is sanded smooth and the transitions are literally seamless. I've never seen anything like this. I thought you died but you were just going into your final form...
I thought this was going to be an average game review until he talked about philosophy and art and when I got towards the end of the review, I realized how God like the writing was. Seriously this video should be in a English class it's so good.
31:17 Dunno how much people here know Ukrainian, but the book on the right literally says "JoJo's Bizzare Adventure. Part 7: Steel Ball Run" Owl of culture, I see.
The Jojo ending was sick as all hell and the red stone of Aja being replaced by what could be considered this channels second mascot at this point, the no man’s sky gem, had me cackling
"As if experiencing and participating in the death of an infant from the first person perspective wouldn't be improved in every way if I could do sick combos on the baby to to min/max it's lifetime." this just killed me
Hey shammy, you won't see this, but thank you for recommending night in the woods. As someone who has lived my life in a small town barely feeling like I've done much. I loved it, and I wouldn't have played it without you so thank you owl man
Never thought I'd have that owl-shaped hole in my heart filled yet again, but as I watched the credits roll I knew that alas the time has come to start anew yet again. It's great to have you back Shammy.
There's so much sarcasm here and the arguments are so all over the place that I have no idea what points this damn owl is trying to make half the time. This needs a second rewatching...
I just watched an almost 50 minute video, that could've easily been several individual reviews and then this guy hits me with a goddamn Jojo outro. Thank you, I'm impressed. Oh and also mad props for being able to make a video this long where I didn't even notice the complete lack of music right until the end.
I'm here because I've spent last week binging through the Please Stop Talking podcast, liking it extremely and hurting because of it, while the downward spiral of my mental health is getting ever steeper. This video from 2 years ago about a bunch of games from 5 years ago none of which I've played (except for the Hollow Knight) did things to me. I'm crying, I don't know what those things are. I may be on a verge of a breakdown, I may be on a verge of a breakthroug, or it may be just another day like the one before and the one after. What I know is I feel compelled to thank you. Thank you, Shammy, have a good day.
The Edith Finch part made me genuinely confused while watching about whether that was one of his favorites because it was in the video or not, even though the answer is painfully obvious. This is a good video.
@@MakinUsernamesSuck It's on the list. He's making fun of people who say that it's not a game just because it doesn't have mechanics in the traditional sense.
I honestly never even caught the relationship between the opening monologue and the joke bad ending in the Nier Automata prologue. Mostly because I didn't die in the opening like a *chump* , but that honestly puts a smile on my face to realize how tight the game is thematically.
I tried playing the game through from the beginning again but on the hardest difficulty, and I became well aware of that fucking joke as I struggled for hours to get past the God damned tutorial :)
i low key am awful at game, so i died SO. MANY. TIMES. in that intro. even worse, i doed on the final boss before ur supposed to doe multiple times, so i had to start over and aaaaaaaaaaa
The first time i beat the prologue I couldn't continue because of a glitch where if you played before it was fully downloaded even though it let you, you couldn't continue. So I had to restart and that got me a little pissed and then the second time at the double crane boss fight I got stuck underneath it and died. It made me so unbelievably mad that I wanted to uninstall. Thank god I didn't
I still come back to this video all the time. For a review of ten different games it’s unironically changed the way I look at the world and shaped my perspective on life in ways I don’t think I even fully understand. Still here 2 years later and I’ll be here 20 years from now
The way that you transition between games here reminds me a lot of Matthewmatosis' Mega Micro videos, and generally your writing is among the best that this platform has to offer. Seriously impressive stuff.
That Edith Finch segment was honestly legendary. Astronomical levels of sarcasm. I'm in love with it. Good to see you back, and honestly with your best video yet
Ludotography: ludoto-: Latin origin - the singular future nominal passive participle of ludo, meaning 'to play [a game]' -graphy: Greek origin - a style or method of writing Not only was I promised funny curse words and let down, you also mashed two languages into one singular bloated monstrosity. How very dare you, sir. Pretty word.. too bad it was conceived from such blasphemy.
There's videos, and then there's Shammy's masterpieces, which are a riot to watch and always incredibly entertaining. I have no words for it, but 47 minutes have never passed faster, nor have I ever enjoyed it more.
Its 3 AM as I am writing this. You still have very tight writing that flows without any bumps helped. This is all helped by your great delivery which gives off a strong dry wit and barely stings when you talk down to certain audience members. The owl is still surprisingly expressive and doesn't fall into any of the traps that "talking avatars" on youtube do which makes your visual gags hilarious. All of this helps encourage people to play (or complete) the games you are talking about. I am late to watching this, but I am so happy that I did. That mural at the end wrapped it all up nicely. A great tribute to a series you like, along with referencing your previous work and friends that helped build your platform. God speed, Shammy.
He should play the first Nier if he hasn't already, as should everyone. It gives a whole new meaning to a lot of the aspects and characters Nier: Automata and is arguable a lot better storytelling-wise.
Shammy my man, I've routinely checked your channel every few weeks for the past couple years checking for new uploads, and the wait is always worth it - you're one seriously talented dude and you should be one proud owl! When you’re reviewing a game you can either go the Whitelight way where you go in depth, do multiple playthroughs, write a monster of a script and have it be over and hour long, or the Dunkey way, where the legitimate criticisms can be lost in the hyperbole and jokes, but it’s mostly for entertainment purposes so it doesn’t really matter. Or you can pound six shots and do it THE SHAMMY WAY, and by god it’s the most beautiful thing on this earth.
This is probably the best and arguably most sincere and informative compilation of reviews I have seen, ever. You say you wanted to set a high point and I congratulate you for doing it.
