  • You do you, long or short days, but have no guilt about walking short stages! Whether you want to arrive early so that your clothes have time to dry, you have errands to run like getting to a bank or store, or you just want to take more breaks, a short stage (or many of them) could be your answer.

I have really enjoyed your information and tips for walking the camino. Thanks so much. I will be starting at the end of August 2023 and am trying desperately to reduce the weight of my backpack. I like your more subtle suggestion of eliminating packaging from items. You are right, it does add up! I'd love to know what worked and didn't work on the final packing list you posted. Did you end up bringing the blanket? I am also taking to heart your suggestion to slow down and try to savor the experience rather than rushing from one locale to the next. After this last trip, are you planning to return for another go? Again, thanks so much!--Catherine

I am with you. My sweet spot is about 18-20km. More than that and it was just too much. The handful of 25km days that I did were just not fun and I often didn’t eat dinner because I just couldn’t make myself walk any more once I got to my lodging.
