No special diet, but I do not eat too much fatty or fried food, do not smoke and only consume a very few alcoholic drinks a week. Medications still taken are one 5Mg Ramipril, one 25 Mg Metoprolol and one 20 Mg Atorvastatin per day. In addition, I take an 81 Mg Aspirin and 100 Mg Co-Enzyme Q10 daily. (non-prescription supplements) I use a Garmin fitness tracker to monitor my daily activity and nightly sleep as well as my heart rate. (very useful when exercising)

So, it's now time to start losing the weight without starting up the smoking. After bypass surgery my responsibility to myself seems very clear. If they say lose weight, I have to lose weight. If I'm told to stop eating certain foods, I have to stop. Think about it: is there anyone else out there who has more reason to do the things to make you live longer than you yourself has? Do you want to have more surgeries or procedures? Do you want to live or die? If you won't do the right things to live a longer and healthier life, is there somebody who is going to do them for you? When you want to have your cake and eat it too, who are you fooling except yourself?
Very informative. I'm 12 mths post HA 55 yr old man with stent in. How come no one complains about when you wake up in the mornings and you feel like crap. I mean, besides my ears ringing stupid, my head is sparking zapping as if still sea sick drunk or overcharged, disoriented and weak. Half me physical strength and hard yakka abilities are all gone. Clumsy, forgetful, feeling cold and wake up 50 times a night with leg pains and pins and needles. and spaced anxious, useless and incompatible feeling all day long. I'm compliant with 7 different tablets and pump spray and depression tablets. Am I going off.
Only in the USA... having to consider if the insurance will cover you for vital medication like the blood thinners... disgraceful. Had 2 stents fitted and was on blood thinners for 18 months after the procedure.. Good old UK NHS... You have enough to worry about with heart disease without having to worry about wether your insurance will cough up necessary medication.
My father got heart attack after which he underwent angioplasty . He doesnt have bp, diabetics or any medical problem . So is there any chance he will get attack again . ? I am feeling helpless and scared . He is totally vegan yet he had to face it ... Will he ablw to get to normal after this procedure ???

Sorry…I know my stents saved me..and God…2004 at age 49 the back of my heart stopped beating..my surgeon was able to stent my widow maker…he later told my family that I had maybe one week to live had I not had the stent placed..two more were placed later..no blockages since age of 49 to now 68…the thing that has helped me? I’ve been on plavix and aspirin since..too many times you remove this and more clots appear or blockages..leave ppl on plavix and aspirin..
@@fhgg7644 , yes… I have two stents and one balloon, first stent was the widow maker he did, he said I had maybe a week before massive heart attack..two hours to do stent for that one..horrible pain I was in.. 99% blockage.. other 95% blockage last was a balloon, he didn’t have a stent for that one in the lower branch and it kind of feathers out.. they may be able to fix that today..my last nuclear tests revealed I have blockage everywhere..so all he can do is give me medicine..I will be 69 in a few months..I told him he gave me more time with my family..I would had not survived otherwise..each day is a gift…

It may have been good for you, but not for me. Had stent placement through the groin, and shortly thereafter, had severe pain in that area, and after two ultrasounds, and two additional visits to the ER, pain was finally eradicated. Had a super large hematoma and pseudoaneurysm. Pain on a level I didn't know existed, and I've suffered through 7 kidneystones in my life.
I'm really glad to see this. I'm 30 and facing the possibility of having a stent put in in 2 weeks. They are doing a cath first to get a better look at the blockage. I'm nervous about it but the alternative is much worse.
The cardiologist tried radial access for me, but it was a pain in his ass. I think it was probably because the vessels in the arm and wrist are smaller. He put the catheter in through my femoral artery very quickly and was able to get it to the area affected around my heart seemingly immediately. Although radial may be better when things are good, most of us having a catheter put into us do not have arteries in ideal condition.

In watching many videos on stents i realize how intelligent and informed my cardiologist was, demanding 30 day bed rest with no lifting. My artery was 98% blocked.
Can too many stents make your case for heart bypass difficult because there is no not-metallic part artery left to do bypass? How do you deal with such cases? Can you cut an artery at a place where the stent was implanted and join it to a bypass graft?
Because over time the crap in your arteries calcifies - it becomes like a rock and it is often blocking 50-100% of an artery. No medication ever gets rid of that blockage; nothing even gets rid of part of it. The condition will never get better without intervention. Medications are to rid the body of all the crap moving around in the blood that eventually adds itself to these blockages. So, meds and exercise, etc., can prevent the blockages from beginning or stop or slow them from getting bigger, but the blockage will either be there forever, break apart haphazardly and cause a stroke or keep getting bigger and cause a heart attack.
Drink plenty of water. Stay away from any thing with sugar as much as you can, such as soda cookies cakes, candies.Maybe eat something sweet once in a while , Sugar turns to fat. . Stay away from greasy food. If you need to cook, cook with Olive oil and grass field butter, use as less as you can. Eat plenty of fruit, and eat foods with fiber. try unsalted nuts, fat free milk, wheat bread or grain breads. yogurt. Check out the D.A.S.H diet. Eat small portions. NO Smoking and try not to be around people that are smoking. You have to make a change. Don't eat buffet. I am having to change my life style and I am feeling really good. The most important thing is accepting and trusting Jesus in our Lives. He will give us strength and courage to change our life style. He did not put this on us,we did it to yourself.

Agree. I'm going for a stent in a couple of weeks and I had to really suck info out of my doctor. Then they also don't like it when we look for information on Google and UA-cam. Well this is one example video of trustworthy info that you do find.
You must get your info from UA-cam but a good cardiac rehab program includes much of this information, if not more. The docs don't have time to educate everyone.
First of all.. I had the balloon done.. the balloon forces the blockage up inside the arterial wall..one nick of that wall would be over for the patient..balloons don’t always work.. slowly they can close back.. the balloon is removed from the artery after the procedure..at the Time mine was done there were not stents available for lower branch my blockage is in back in 2004..

I’ve been on plavix daily and one baby aspirin since age 49 turning soon to 69.. it’s all how your body reacts..I have no issues with bleeding..because my heart disease is more genetic from long family history..all my siblings when removed from plavix had more strokes and bypass and stents added..they have all since passed away with the exception one brother..I believe the only reason was my plavix..to date I’m the only one who had no more heart stents..I do have blockages everywhere.. I’m now taking medication to open my arteries more for blood and oxygen…I feel blessed I have had 20 years more…God is good..

Should a CT scan be a standard practice to determine % occlusion? Can a doc actually see % occlusion accurately in a Cath procedure? Smoking is the worst but where does genetics come in? Again what can one do if they are genetically predisposed to cholesterol and they are allergic to statins. And if one is allergic to statins is it still worth taking them even with the allergic side effects?
I was wide awake during all my procedures, except my bypass surgery of course, and from my point of view the catheterization was the only thing that mad the percentage of blockage clear.

I had a stent placed on my LAD 2 years ago. I am considering elective surgery (Tummy tuck and breast augmentation). My cardio says I'm good, but has not performed any tests in all this time. The surgeon asked for a ECG and a stress test. ECG is good, but Cardiologist says stress test is unnecessary. Should I go on with my elective surgeries? Am I at big risk? Yes be positive! Thank the lord! Be motivated! And change your lifestyle. Watch what you eat. No smoking! Research on go diets. Take the medication the doctors want you to take......maybe in time you can reduce your medication. My heart attack happened this Thanksgiving 2019. So not much experience. My wife, now 77 years had heart attack problem about 18 years ago. On angiogram two arteries were blocked. Added to this she was going into Coma now and then. She was referred to NIMS Hospital. Dr. Sheshaghiri HOD of Cardiology dept., had placed two medicated stents simultaneously. Regarding other problem other Dorctor placed Pacemaker and Cell with 25 years life. Every six months she goes to NIMS for Consultation and pacemaker check up. Last check was done in August 2022. Life of Pacemaker cell is 3.5 years.
So for 3 to 4 weeks we must be very aware of potential restenosis. Why would anyone use bare metal stents with a >25% restenosis rate? So now in 2016 what do they use for stents? What are the contraindications if the anti clotting drugs? Not even a dental procedure for a year? The cardiologist did not mention this. So then if we go with a bare metal stent then we need to anticipate 25% restenosis? There is much more to consider here than what the cardiologist tells us... Why is that? And if one is allergic to statins? Should a patient stop smoking prior to this procedure and how long before? What is the post stent stroke risk? Is it higher posts stenting?
Chuck W, you appear to be thinking this through carefully, so why are you trying to find out how long you can smoke? Stop smoking right now. Are you looking for advice telling you to continue smoking? Are you crazy? Nobody else cares about you. Outside of specific medical procedures and drugs prescribed for you, you are the only one who has a vested interest in saving your life. Ask yourself the same questions. When should I quit smoking? Do I want to continue to live? Does each cigarette make the possibility of instant death right now more likely? You said yourself that 2% is still a lot (at least in stent thrombosis). I'll tell you this: post cigarette incidence of stroke or heart attack is much higher than the things you're worried about. Smoking is never okay for a heart patient. We are worried about red blood cells carrying enough oxygen through blockages in the arteries leading to your heart and you want to know how long you may safely smoke? If you write it again, I may start insulting you because although you seem thoughtful and concerned, you seem obtuse regarding smoking. Do a youtube search about how cigarettes negatively affect the circulatory system.
This was produced in 2012. A lot has changed. Now not advised to take statins or aspirin . This should be removed from UA-cam. This is criminal advice !
I’m still on statins… and low dose aspirin since 2004.. my statin, prevastain…I’m now on another on top of that.. my total cholesterol went from 92 too 33 in two weeks..I have heart failure so I’m on another medicine to open my arteries and increase oxygen and blood flow.. my pressure dropped too low so had to cut way back on my metoprolol ..
I have had two heart attacks due to high bad cholesterol. I was diagnosed with this arteriosclerosis. On the second heart attack I had the pack removed and three stents placed on the main artery put together to make one in order to cover the extent of the plack damage! It's the statins causing that. Try a lower dose or go off them all together, work with your doctor.

stents are weird, restenosis, blockages. there's no guarantee that they are good. a lifetime of medications, putting kickback in doctors pockets.

Agree. I'm going for a stent in a couple of weeks and I had to really suck info out of my doctor. Then they also don't like it when we look for information on Google and UA-cam. Well this is one example video of trustworthy info that you do find.
You must get your info from UA-cam but a good cardiac rehab program includes much of this information, if not more. The docs don't have time to educate everyone.

First of all.. I had the balloon done.. the balloon forces the blockage up inside the arterial wall..one nick of that wall would be over for the patient..balloons don’t always work.. slowly they can close back.. the balloon is removed from the artery after the procedure..at the Time mine was done there were not stents available for lower branch my blockage is in back in 2004..
2% stent thrombosis is still a lot. Are patients fully educated in post stent care? What longer term concerns should one be aware of with placid and similar drugs? What are the optimal choices for stent selection?
I’ve been on plavix daily and one baby aspirin since age 49 turning soon to 69.. it’s all how your body reacts..I have no issues with bleeding..because my heart disease is more genetic from long family history..all my siblings when removed from plavix had more strokes and bypass and stents added..they have all since passed away with the exception one brother..I believe the only reason was my plavix..to date I’m the only one who had no more heart stents..I do have blockages everywhere.. I’m now taking medication to open my arteries more for blood and oxygen…I feel blessed I have had 20 years more…God is good..

Should a CT scan be a standard practice to determine % occlusion? Can a doc actually see % occlusion accurately in a Cath procedure? Smoking is the worst but where does genetics come in? Again what can one do if they are genetically predisposed to cholesterol and they are allergic to statins. And if one is allergic to statins is it still worth taking them even with the allergic side effects?
I was wide awake during all my procedures, except my bypass surgery of course, and from my point of view the catheterization was the only thing that mad the percentage of blockage clear.

I recently had stent placement in my right leg on November 12th 2022, however, I’m not able to fully bend walk as well as I did before having the stents place, is this normal and do it get better with walking and running once again? Thanks for any response and your time as well.
I had a stent placed on my LAD 2 years ago. I am considering elective surgery (Tummy tuck and breast augmentation). My cardio says I'm good, but has not performed any tests in all this time. The surgeon asked for a ECG and a stress test. ECG is good, but Cardiologist says stress test is unnecessary. Should I go on with my elective surgeries? Am I at big risk? Research on go diets. Take the medication the doctors want you to take......maybe in time you can reduce your medication. My heart attack happened this Thanksgiving 2019.
So not much experience. But must be positive and ask God to help you heal👍

My wife, now 77 years had heart attack problem about 18 years ago. On angiogram two arteries were blocked. Added to this she was going into Coma now and then. She was referred to NIMS Hospital. Dr. Sheshaghiri HOD of Cardiology dept., had placed two medicated stents simultaneously. Regarding other problem other Dorctor placed Pacemaker and Cell with 25 years life. Every six months she goes to NIMS for Consultation and pacemaker check up. Last check was done in August 2022. Life of Pacemaker cell is 3.5 years.

So for 3 to 4 weeks we must be very aware of potential restenosis. Why would anyone use bare metal stents with a >25% restenosis rate? So now in 2016 what do they use for stents? What are the contraindications if the anti clotting drugs? Not even a dental procedure for a year? The cardiologist did not mention this. So then if we go with a bare metal stent then we need to anticipate 25% restenosis? There is much more to consider here than what the cardiologist tells us... Why is that? And if one is allergic to statins? Should a patient stop smoking prior to this procedure and how long before? What is the post stent stroke risk? Is it higher posts stenting?
Chuck W, you appear to be thinking this through carefully, so why are you trying to find out how long you can smoke? Stop smoking right now. Are you looking for advice telling you to continue smoking? Are you crazy? Nobody else cares about you. Outside of specific medical procedures and drugs prescribed for you, you are the only one who has a vested interest in saving your life. Ask yourself the same questions. When should I quit smoking? Do I want to continue to live? Does each cigarette make the possibility of instant death right now more likely? You said yourself that 2% is still a lot (at least in stent thrombosis). I'll tell you this: post cigarette incidence of stroke or heart attack is much higher than the things you're worried about. Smoking is never okay for a heart patient. We are worried about red blood cells carrying enough oxygen through blockages in the arteries leading to your heart and you want to know how long you may safely smoke? If you write it again, I may start insulting you because although you seem thoughtful and concerned, you seem obtuse regarding smoking. Do a youtube search about how cigarettes negatively affect the circulatory system.

I’m still on statins… and low dose aspirin since 2004.. my statin, prevastain…I’m now on another on top of that.. my total cholesterol went from 92 too 33 in two weeks..I have heart failure so I’m on another medicine to open my arteries and increase oxygen and blood flow.. my pressure dropped too low so had to cut way back on my metoprolol ..

I have had two heart attacks due to high bad cholesterol. I was diagnosed with this arteriosclerosis. On the second heart attack I had the pack removed and three stents placed on the main artery put together to make one in order to cover the extent of the plack damage!
