That was a really helpful explanation - especially the part where you said the 1st deco has to be directly connected to the modem (not through a switch). Cheers

Thank u so much for clear explanation. I've 1 question. If i connect a Poe switch (10gbps) into my network switchboard, will i be able to connect any of the BE85 in other built-in ethernet out port in the house without connecting direct power supply to the be85?

Thanks for your videos. I just wall mounted the 2 pack deco BE75 (BE17000) wired backhaul via MoCA 2.5. Still trying to resolve backyard signal strength. May try adding a switch and an additional AP, with wired backhaul over MoCA 2.5 to the 2nd floor.

These new Deco's are even fast on wireless backhaul but MoCA 2.5 is great. Adding one more will help typically, Deco also has a dedicated outdoor unit that you can add to your existing Deco network (since all Deco's are supposed to be compatible with each other). Excellent explanation man! You answered all of my questions. What can I do and what I can't and specifically why I can't do it! Love your answers.
Watched lot of videos re mesh wifis and noone is even talking about wired backhaul, let alone using switch for additional ports!
I have one additional question: Is it possible to use a dedicated hardware for router near the modem, a switch post that and 3 Decos connected to the switch operating just as access points and not using router piece in any of the 3 Decos?

      Thanks!
Ok, there's a lot to unpack here:
There are routers without wifi capabilities. Here is an example of a premium version: amzn.to/4ebndt0 So with something like this, you would typically get access points to act as the wifi for the network. Now this one will work for sure with Netgear access points (I've reviewed some of those as well like this beast: ua-cam.com/video/FdKLHKIWn54/v-deo.html ). You could even mount those access points to the walls.
With the scenario I've specified, you could go from your modem -> no wifi router -> several access points (acting as your wifi's)
Will this router work with this TP-Link if all the deco's connect directly to the router? I'm not 100% sure, they will most likely work if two of the decos go to the main deco that is connected to the router but if all three connect to the router directly, I don't know if that would work or not. Either way, this is not something I would recommend. If you are trying to do something like that, I would just go with the above scenario (where it's a Netgear router with Netgear access points) instead of mixing Netgear with TP-Link.
BTW, TP-Link has the Omada line that I haven't tested yet but you should be able to do something similar as the Negear with the TP-Link Omada products both for the router and access points..

    • @landpet

Decos are compatible with each other

Hello. I have just installed 2 Deco BE65, in order to have good wi-fi performances (that my box does not have...) to connect my TV in another room (without any wire).
I've used all default values for hub installation, and let the system handle the satellite installation.
It is correctly working, but I want now limit transmission between the 2 Decos only in 6 Ghz (by default, all frequencies are used). But I cannot find the option in the App to do that. Is it possible ?

Thanks for your video. REALLY interested in you testing out the ASUS ZEN WiFi BQ16 Pro and get your option of it's performance. It's been available on Best Buy and Amazon for a while.

      No problem!
I will eventually test it out, I’m also interested in that one. I’ll post a comment when I get my hands on it.

If i only use all deco as ap mode what functionality would i lose?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  9 днів тому

You need a router at that point. In access point mode, it’s really just emitting a WiFi signal and providing Ethernet access. The router has the NAT. You’re not losing a lot of functionality though, it’s really just a glorified booster at that point but you can still deny access to devices among other things

@ so the dedicated wireless backhaul would still be available in ap mode and the the deco node can be use as a switch wired up to the pc getting a local test of over gigabit?

I’ve been in the google ecosystem for a very long time. From Google WiFi to Nest WiFi Pro…I keep upgrading thinking.. the coverage, speed or even communications between it and other google devices..ie cameras, doorbells, thermostats, hub..etc, would be better or at least slightly more reliable. Unfortunately no.
Moved on to the BE85 and wish I would have done it sooner. The speed and consistency is spot on. Never dropped nor crashed like the Nest Pro 6E would do weekly.
Fyi.. I use three BE85… had to use 5 Nest Pro..Maximum recommended by google.
I also put the three BE85 in the same location at the first three Nest.
My house is over 6k Sqf.. all interior walls are insulated. Three BE85 covers every square inch inside. I just bought a forth one to put outside in an unheated shed to cover my backyard.. working good so far but not sure about the winter yet.
      Great review by the way.
