I believe the many dice create the impression that luck plays a bigger role than it actually does. The point is: losing a battle is not bad at all. So the consequences of having luck oder unluck are no big deal. You only move up the red track, and when you loose you gain a (strong) tactic card. That´s it. That make the battles funny, because there is a chance for the weaker player to win and there is a motivation for all players to join a fight. Furthermore, you can prepare for fights with energy, better ships and tactic cards (and it is possible, to 100% win a fight with special tactic cards and more ships/energy). And when you put all your ships into a fight, it is your fault. Don´t do that, it is a bad strategy (learning by doing). So: losing or winning in a battle does not lead to a victory or loss over the game. And most important: you activate a system before the fight is happening. So when you loose a battle, it does not influence your strategy. There are so many strategies without winning a fight.
Nice review I like a bit of random in my games, question is if this is too much? God Jul från Sverige, hoppas ni får en fin Jul med mycket spel och god mat.
Glad to see that I am not the only one who is puzzled about the hype around this game. I found it a bit average and rather boring, just running up tracks, some ordinary resource management and some dice chucking. Happy for all those who enjoy this kind of stuff but it‘ll be a pass for me as well. These heavy luck elements in strategic Euro games just don’t make a lot of sense. I would always pick ARCS over this one if I want to have a similar experience which is way more fun.
I don't think there's a heavy luck element, not with all the ways to affect the dice results - energy, cards, 'targeting'. Also a loss is not disastrous, ships can be repaired, you get a consolation resource, and again - card effects. I wouldn't say this is a strategic-biased euro, it is more tactical than that.
@@StoneTempleGlyphHmm. I still think it tries to do too much and fails in that. If I want a thinky strategic space game I play Voidfall. And if I want a tactical game with some luck I play Arcs (way more fun). This one sits oddly in the middle, neither adding any innovative elements nor excelling at anything in particular. Running up boring tracks as the key to victory is just not much fun. But again, that‘s just my personal view and I am conscious that others may have different preferences.
I think there is more luck in Arcs than Andromeda's edge. Luck with the dice and with the hand you're dealt. Both of these games are just fine. They are too long to be decided by a roll of the dice.
@@a-c-m Voidfall might be in my top ten but I love this game too. Yes, there are tracks, but there is an abundance of individual customization through constant powers and abilities as well as this constant rewarding feeling with every action. The tracks here are all unique and provide different rewards and abilities, unlike many tracks in other games. But to each their own.
The combat feels thematic but weirdly it’s not that consequential-reminds me of Tapestry. With some planning, you are getting valuable rewards for losing. I had a game where my faction would advance on the red track even when I lost AND I programmed it so when I lost I auto repaired and gained a resource. Pretty epic! Another strategy is to mitigate rolls through upgrades, multiple ships, or cards.
Interested in the game, but this review (still and again) is hammering me with way too many and incredibly supid ads. I do not have the time or nerve to be flushed with YT BS. You two create good content but I am not willing spend my time at a 1:1 ratio with totally brain dead ad content. All the best for you, still! =)
How many ada are you seeing? I’m doing my absolute best to keep the ads to a logical amount, but if YT shows more than I think, I would love to know! Thank you for the feedback!
Good review; I'm still excited for it.
10:00 Sweet zoom in! Looked cool and made it much easier to see. I appreciate the effort!
I was already a big fan of Dwellings of Eldervale (which is in my Top 50 games), and I love Andromeda's Edge so much more (definitely Top 10)!!!!

Best wishes for Christmas 🎉 Johannes and Sunniva. In the next year, may you have more VPs than you can count ❤.
Great review. Nice to hear honest comments, not every game is for everyone.

Do you like it better than Dwellings for Eldervale?

Definitely didn't expect this to be one for you guys with the pseudo luck based combat system!
